Hear me out: Sesame Street, but Minecraft.

"Oh, look out! It's Creeper Monster!"

Amoebic, I think we might disagree slightly about science fiction. I think Star Trek was the first to start raising scifi out of the pulp from which it was born. They had plots that tried to make people think about the future more deeply, and had a world based more on grounded science than others of its time. Later Trek movies and series went further in that regard, where Star Wars tends to get hand-wave-y on many things in favor of the plot and characters. Just my $.02 though - great discussion! Thanks!

oh no did I do a cardinal nerd sin? I'm ashamed to my core. Thank you for the correction

“Have you ever read a book?” is my favorite sentence of the entire podcast.

As for games about being a dentist…. I’m sure they folks who did Surgeon Simulator are working on it.

Awesome stuff, loved having Daryl back again, keep up the great work! <3

lol, no sin or correction at all! Star Wars vs Star Trek will continue to be debated until we are actually Trekking to real Wars in the Stars... I mean just war GAMES, of course - I'm sure our society will have evolved beyond real armed conflict by that point, right? .....right??

If only. The Trekkies versus Wars’ians debate will continue until the end of the time. Until folks recognize that a lot of us are just… both. I agree with the above, though. Gene Roddenberry really was aiming for something more profound (and we would’ve gotten a woman in the captain’s chair right out of the gate had he not been overruled). They didn’t always get it right (some episodes in the first season of Next Generation are super cringe), but… yeah, they tried.
