2021/22 Soccer Thread: It's Euro 2020 until it becomes 2021

This is definitely gonna have a Brazil 2014/Sochi 2014 aftermath.

They're going to build all this sh*t for the event, and then everyone will leave and 80% of it will be unused and go to rot.

FIFA will pocket their $$$ though, so who cares?

Courtois was unbeatable there.

Courtois is not the first Belgian to win the Champions League, but he's definitely the first who's been essential to his club winning the trophy.

Question for the crowd here: Courtois referenced a lack of respect from the English media as one of his motivators this season. I do feel that Courtois was given the short shrift, always considered just below the World's best, with "if only he would improve [X]" as a reasons. He only ranked 8th Goalie in last years Ballon D'Or for example. But why single out English media, as I feel this was more of a global perception? Wasn't he considered a top class keeper at Chelsea?

He was specifically questioning FourFourTwo magazine’s decision not to put him in their ‘Top 10 Goalies of the Season’ list. In the March edition. At the time, I’m not sure I would have either considering Real wouldn’t have needed all those last minute comebacks If he’d been playing like he did on Saturday night.

Edit: also looks like Sadio Mane has played his last game for Liverpool. Very saddened by this but it’s not entirely unexpected.

Unexpected for me. Is he not happy at Liverpool?

Some people will think this wasn't an intentional co-op play.

We're at the "Player v. Board" stage of the Lewandowski Leaving Saga.

Not a big fan of Lewandowski's entitlement.. If he wants out, he could have chosen his words differently but hey, he isn't the first and certainly wouldn't be the last player to break his contract.

This is always where the balance of player to club power is tested. In any other business there would be no question of you seeing out your contract and you should realise that when you sign on for however many years you are prepared to.

I don't want a return to the old days pre Bosman et al and I also want to see Lewandowski play not rot in the reserves for a year so hopefully it can be resolved to everyone's relative satisfaction.

No idea how I want this to end. I'm going to feel bad for Scotland or Ukraine, whoever loses.

Oh Scotland.

Scotland helping Ukraine feel a little better about life today.

And thus goes my life. I was 18 at our last World Cup…

Well, I mean, if you were going to lose to anyone, I guess.

That was abysmal.

I was 17, and barely remember the Brazil game thanks to Stella Artois..

Not Scottish, but I well remember the Tartan Army's last World Cup appearance. I passed my driving test on the day they played Brazil. Seems a very long time ago now...

That's because it is

Not quite as long as Wales have been waiting, however.

I was studying for my last uni exam of first year so was stone cold sober for John Collins finest moment. I was wildly drunk for both Craig burleys finest moment against Norway and worst against Morocco sigh.

Scotland seem to have had a goalkeeper called Craig Gordon for pretty much all my adult life. I am 51.

I'm sure it's unreliable tabloid gossip, but the rumor that Gerard Pique cheated on Shakira by sleeping with Gavi's mom is A+++++ stuff.

That goal was the talk of the schoolyard for days, back when. 24 years already...

And lo a career of trying to replicate this but only succeeding one in 50 times was born.

I think it was one in about 120 attempts wasn’t it?

So far this England-Hungary game is brought to you by the words "Bellingham tries to do too much" and Trent Alexander Arnold's weird tribute to Harry-Kane-at-Euro-2016 level of set pieces.

The stadium is full of 30,000 children, because reasons, and Trent is trying to make sure they all get to go home with a football.

Aaaaaaaand 1-0 Hungary.

Mixed feelings because... you know... but well done Wales!

Not just not train, apparently they won't play the friendly against Panama.

Hasn't been a banner international window for the CSA between this and having to cancel the Iran game (which shouldn't have been scheduled in the first place).

I'm not sure who is to blame, but doing this with about 2 hours notice is super sh*tty to everyone, especially traveling fans and the Panamanian team. Frankly, other countries should refuse to schedule friendlies in Canada for quite some time.

Prince George looks like he’s sending Louis on with five minutes to go to try get a winner, while William gives him the instructions.
