I am still very excited for this, but it's just so close to Elden Ring I might wait to pick Horizon up until I finish that.
Yeah, those two releasing so close to each other is just... annoying.
Damn, I thought I'd have more time to actually find a PS5 for this. Alas and alack.
Horizon Forbidden West: 32 Impressive Little Details
For those like me whose memory of HZD is a little hazy (2018 was a long time ago!) these videos are a great refresher for the new one:
I desperately needed that. Thank you!

What, we aren't all replaying the original for the fourth time in anticipation?

Plus it came out the month before Breath of the Wild, in 2017. I only just finished HZD for the first time on PC in November.

And this time its Elden Ring! What to do!
Oh it was 2017? As I said, memory like a steel trap, me.
I am sort of hoping HFW is not too massive and sprawling, but who am I kidding, of course it will be
Lots of us recently playing or replaying, trying to finish before the sequel.
Horizon Forbidden West - Official Challenges of the Forbidden West Trailer
Does anyone understand how the PS4 -> PS5 upgrade works?
There is a PS4 version and a PS5 version on the PS store. The PS4 version is cheaper. The PS5 version says that it includes a free upgrade from the PS4 version. The PS4 version doesn't mention an upgrade at all.
I thought Sony previously said the upgrade was free, so did they just conveniently forget to mention that on the PS4 page? Or has something changed?
Horizon was announced as a $70 PS5 game, but had previously said PS4 to PS5 upgrades will always be free. There was a lot of kickback… so, they stuck to their guns and made PS5 version $70 and the PS4-to-PS5 upgrade free. Long story short - buy the PS4 version and save $10.
Wow, that is so confusing. I see my mistake was expecting it to make sense somehow!
Whoa, that is good to know. I can save $10 and buy / play it on PS4. With this and upcoming GoW I'm starting to get my wallet ready for PS5.
Wow, that is so
confusingdevious...
Fixed that for you. I would be really annoyed if I had waited for the PS5 version only to find out later I could get both versions for less. Is this 100% confirmed this will be the case?
If you already have a PS5 and want it day 1 it makes sense to get the PS4 version.
If you don't have a PS5 yet remember there's a disc version and digital only. So you might want to buy digital if you plan to play it later and maybe can't get a disc system.
Also for PS4 => PS5 games if you have a disc version you have to keep the disc in to play the PS5 version. So even for convenience might get the digital.
Or you can be dumb like me and spend $10 extra on the physical PS5 version because you want that one for some reason even though it’s just going to sit in a drawer.
Ok, so confirmed that PS4 will give the PS5 version when the disc is in?
I’ve just realised something. I was going to wait and buy the game on PS5 because I might be able to live with the quality of the graphics on the base PS4 (I’m pretty forgiving) but, even if that ends up being true, it makes sense to get the game on PS4 in order to save money so I may as well give it a go rather than holding out.
If you need any additional enablement, we are here for you.
Horizon Forbidden West - 35 Things You Need To Know Before You Play
*I dislike the "need to know" thing but I like their channel and it is interesting information.
I’ve stayed pretty much in the dark about this since I already knew I was getting it.
Looks like PS store is updated to mark that you get both PS4 and PS5 versions.
They do push the PS5 version at the top of the page. But when you scroll down there are 3 editions. PS4 standard, PS5 standard, and Digital Deluxe. But all three show PS4 and PS5 logos.
And then below at the Game and Legal Info it says:
Buy the Horizon Forbidden West™ digital version for PS4™ from PlayStation™Store to get the Horizon Forbidden West digital version for PS5™ at no extra cost.
And below that the note about the disc version:
If you already own the PS4 version of this game, you can get the PS5 digital version at no extra cost and you do not need to purchase this product. Owners of a PS4 disc copy must insert it into the PS5 every time they want to download or play the PS5 digital version. PS4 game disc owners who buy the PS5 Digital Edition disc-free console will not be able to get the PS5 version at no extra cost.
This game is literally the reason I've held onto my PS4.
Ha! It's the only reason I bought a PS5. But since getting it, I'm wondering why I never did console stuff before. It's just so nice to be able to sit on the couch and play.

It's off-topic, but this is why I've never entirely understood PC gaming. Outside of having more options of games and better upgrade possibilities. Sitting on my couch playing is so much more relaxing than gaming at a desktop.

Many folks seem to prefer it. I also think there is an element of the TV and living room being used by other members of the family causing a displacement to the home office or a bedroom where sitting at a pre-existing PC becomes the logical way to game.
It may explain the success of the Switch and mobile gaming (other than the great games on those platforms of course) where the person playing games can play whilst others watch TV.
Ah, that totally makes sense. As a guy who live by himself, that didn't even cross my mind.
For me, there are lean back type games and sit forward games - the latter being shooters and strategy games mainly but really any games I’d rather play with a mouse and keyboard.
That doesn’t mean I also don’t play controller games on my PC.
