RIP DMX

After overdosing, suffering a heart attack, and falling into a coma last week, DMX has passed away. I wasn't much for current rap and hip hop in the late 90s, I was a bit pushed back by the Puffy/Shiny Suit phase (which, obvs, DMX is very much not), so I didn't have a grasp of the extent of his influence or esteem, but even I knew "X Gon' Give It To Ya" f*cking ruled.

Kind of crazy that he was reported dead then it turned out he was alive and now he really is dead.

Well, he's been brain dead since last Saturday. Sounds like they were waiting for his 15 children to be at his bedside.

Here's a great twitter thread about DMX just being a very cool and genuine dude.

My favourite DMX thing:

I'm kind bummed tonight about this.

Might as well just link X Gon' Give It To Ya for posterity's sake:

I don't really know too much about him, but yeah, that song on its own is a legacy.

Edit: Oh yes, and my favorite use of that song:

RIP. Party Up, Legend. Thanks for making yelling a musical instrument in my lifetime.

DMX was a great MC. Lots of his stuff was dark and gritty but also had lots of emotion. Top 3 for me with Tupac and Eminem.

I was always partial to this one. I really liked a lot of his work.

I raise you Resident Evil 2:

I live in White Plains where he died and it was just nothing but news vans outside the hospital for days.
