Elden Ring Catch-all

I am making progress! After twenty or tries I beat the magma wyrm to get the moon veil katana. Then I went to get the magic school key and near that some invader attacked and I beat him which netter me a pole arm that is +8!

So now I am torn I don’t like it I don’t think the animations look cool but it does more damage so do I keep using it and suck it up or do I keep using my cool katana?

Always pick the weapon that feels best to you. I have tried every other type of weapon, but I keep coming back to great swords. Just the right balance between heft / time to swing.

Go to round table and upgrade that moonveil. It's so good

Moon veil is going to out class that quickly.

Beat Radahn, but...

Spoiler:

I was really irritated by the seeming randomness of the various summon signs. Right off the bat on the beach, I figured out how to dodge the huge arrows and started summoning help. Once I got a few of them headed toward Radahn the arrows stopped and I was able to hop on Torrent and start circling. But as soon as they started dying, it seemed like random chance as to where the new summon signs would reappear. At one point I must have spent a good 3-4 minutes trotting around the sands looking for summons while Radahn chased me. It doesn't help to have all the silver messages that (from enough distance) look almost identical.

So I died on the first attempt, because all the summoned help died and I couldn't find more signs. The second time I tried keeping closer to the fight and that seemed to help. There were still a few frantic moments when everyone was dead and I couldn't find new signs. They eventually got him down to literally a handful of HP - his health bar was completely gone, I couldn't see any red left. I couldn't find help and figured I might as well lob a lightning bolt at him to see if I could end it. Cue a frantic few moments where I tried to get off my horse, lock him up, switch to my seal and fire off a lightning bolt. The first one missed somehow, so I'm literally watching my death blow descending as I fire off another bolt - and it killed him. Whew. Glad that was done and I never want to do it again.

I realized when I looked that I don’t have the intelligence to use it (in the game not in real life :))
Or at least that is the message that comes up. It looks like it’s swings fine so I’m not exactly sure what I can’t do

So now I’m working my way through the magic academy to get to where, I’ve read, I can respect so that I can increase my intelligence.

You can swing a weapon if you don’t meet the stat requirements, but the weapon art won’t work, and the weapon damage will be significantly reduced.

If you look at the weapon in your inventory screen, it'll tell you what stats you need to wield it - and if you are deficient in any of those stats, the number will be red.

Still pottering along here - 60 hours in on my main character, and I haven't even set foot in Leyndall yet. I am by no means a completionist, but there is so much to explore and so much to do - especially as an Astrologer, with all the spells to collect. I'm about Level 80.

In the last couple of days, I have completed Sellen's quest and Ranni's quest. I wasn't planning on finishing Ranni until much later, if at all, but my son offered to co-op with me, and we plowed through the Baleful Shadow, traversed the Lake of Rot and then killed Astel together. Fun times!

Is there any other way to get to the plateau where I can get the Black Knife Tiche ash spirit before defeating Radahn?

Access to that plateau is part of Ranni quest. You have to defeat Astel, which is a pain in the ass, to get to Deep Ainsel Well.

Dont you need to kill Radahn to progress that quest?

Hm... yeah I guess you do have to kill him to get to Nokron, to get to Astel. Dang, it's been a while.

Ranni quest.

Spinning my wheels a bit. More volcano manor or go... somewhere else? Grinded up a few random weapons and shields but right now I'm a quality build but I may run build a faith/arcane build.

There's only so far you can go with volcano manor until you clear the Capitol

Oh No. Duo Crucible knights are not fun.

I was stuck on putrid erdtree avatar for quite a bit and eventually i summoned in a friend of mine who has already finished the game twice. Still took us a good 10 tries to get him down, but woot! Dead avatar ahoy! I found a wellspring behind the tree and finally reached fort faroth so i can get second half medallion. There is also a big white dragon outside!? I hope i dont have to fight it…

I've beat the game for a 5th time and have over 500 hours according to Steam and I still want to play. HELP!

Wow!!! you have certainly gotten your bang for the buck!

I think if they ever make a top to bottom co-op version of this I would prob put keep playing post end game.

My son started a new character on PS4 (his third) and we got some coop going. It was great fun! I helped him with Godrick and Rennala and gave him my Reduvia dagger, so he has two. Apparently they've patched the Carian Knight invader at Reya Lucaria Academy, so he won't go out and get squished by the big ball anymore.

Now I want to find more prattling pates so I can say more than "You're beautiful" on those long elevator rides together ...

Speaking of Astel, I just made it to that thing over the weekend and it just destroyed me a good 15 times before I said welp, time to go somewhere else for a bit. I managed to get it down to about 1/3 health a few times, but then it just ate me and that was it. In fact, getting eaten is how I died almost every time.

Spoiler:

Is there a good strategy you all used to take it down? I've found staying about medium distance and pelting it with arrows worked the best for me. Sorcery works well but I have to be too close for it to hit. It's easy to dodge the tail swipes, laser, and comets from there too. I just run away when it gets close to me. The problem is when it teleports it often ends up very close, or right on top of me, at which I point I get chomped, and it's insta-death. I'm at level 103 so I'm pretty well powered.

Put on your best magic defense and use your most physical attack, heavy or occult affinities should work really well. They are immune to frostbite and resistant to bleed and poisons. I've beat them with melee pretty easily.

Do you have Latenna? Set her up right when you walk in and she will pelt it for you.

For me the hardest part was the part you spoilered. Best thing to do is just start looking around you 360 degrees and focus on avoiding that thing, its not hard to dodge if you're looking for it. The first 100 times I died its because I just was waiting around for it instead of actively searching for where it was going to pop out.

Rock Sling owned both Astel versions.

I posted strategy somewhere in here but it was weeks ago. Think I ended up using a summon but don't remember if it was Lhutel or mimic.

Tried it with real people and failed miserably at least 10 times as helper or host.

I do have Latenna, and I found out during my many deaths that she was the best person to bring in (among those summons I tried), so I did have that going for me. I also have Rock Sling, and even the Meteorite Staff, so I could boost it pretty well too. I'll give these a try! And maybe just go melee if need be, though with the katana or twinblade I normally roll with not much damage is done. I do the 360 degree turn-around when it disappears, but I think I need to get it figured out faster.

Any tips on Baleful Shadow? Getting my ass handed to me. Tougher than Radahn.

EDIT: Never mind, I got him.

Someone managed to put a message right on top of a grace point, rendering it unusable for me. Great. Any tips on how I can temporarily turn off messages so I can activate the grace point?

Edit: Found it. I can apparently go offline and they will disappear.

People are assholes. Not sure why they get fun doing stupid stuff like this. I had one on a rope ladder with one of those machine things with the blades.

Did the message say something like "Not here!"? There used to be a bug whereby a grace point was visually spawning in the wrong location, and some folks were putting messages down with the intention of directing people away from there, towards the invisible real grace point.

I'd like it if, when you rate a message "poor", it deletes it from your world.

No it was the real one. I closed the game and later started it up again and i was able to access the grace point. Seems like it only happens when the game spawns the point after the boss is killed. I am sure it will be fixed eventually.

That would be super nice. I know they disappear after a certain numbers of down votes but your idea is even better.
