Oh yeah, I could do with hearing a lot more of these.

I agree -- love to hear discussion of a game that can get into details, without pulling back because spoilers.

Book Eleima for the Mass Effect deep dive in May.

Great pod as always, and I like the new offshoot format!

Regarding the Hitman series, I was very surprised to hear no mention of Hitman: Blood Money. I think most long time fans of the series will agree this was the best game made prior to the 2016 reboot, and had many of the elements that the pod crew praised Hitman 2016 for.

I just played the first couple levels again to compare against my recent completion of the modern Hitman 2. The levels are definitely smaller, and the controls are much less forgiving than I remember, but the formula we have in the modern games is fully intact in this older title. Imagine the new Hitman without the "opportunities", a thorough upgrade system for weapons and access to nearly every weapon you find in the game, and a weird human shield mechanic that became the best way to knock someone unconscious. And the after action news paper clipping describing the assassination was dynamic, expressing how silent or chaotic your approach was, and it always a pleasure to read.

It's a little rough by modern standards, but it still holds up to me. I highly recommend fans of the new trilogy either check it out or watch a Let's Play.

And best we forget Hitman: Absolution entirely. Far too on-rails, and they really focused on amplifying the casual misogyny of the late aughts. I'm curious to check it out again, but also dreading it. I remember not having a great time with it when it released.

I haven't listened to this one yet, but I love the idea, and I've been thinking for a while that would love to see more deep dives or spoiler sections. Sometimes when hosts stop themselves from venturing into spoiler territory, I find myself thinking, "no, I want to hear this!" Especially if it's a "light" spoiler -- an early story beat, but not a twist, for instance. But I know we all have different tolerances for how much we're okay with having things spoiled for us.

Yes. Story spoilers are one thing, but these days, even describing a level or boss type is considered a spoiler and it's hard to hear folks talk about gameplay when they are dancing around these details -- you tend to hear a lot of statements without solid examples.

Should I play through 1 and 2 before diving into 3?

If you own them all, I think you can port 1 and 2 into 3. Then it will play as one long game.

Sorry, I get that, I'm just curious if I should.

Problem is I've got 1+2 on PS4 and just gave the free edition (ie. long demo) a go on my Series X. I'm tempted to move forward on the Series X. But, if story much matters then I'd possibly be willing to snag 1&2 on Xbox. Doubtful I will though. That costs a pretty penny.

Anyway, I guess I really want from a story angle. I realize this isn't exactly an rpg, but thought it might make sense to do the trilogy as a trilogy.
