NCAA Football 2021-22 Season

Got up early, figured I would get the new thread out...

Les Miles and LSU. Yikes.

Yeah. It's bad.

Former Louisiana State University head football coach Les Miles’ behavior was so problematic during his tenure at the school that his then-boss, LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva, recommended his firing in June 2013.

But the university instead kept Miles on its payroll for another three years and buried a report detailing the coach’s alleged sexual advances on female student workers, hands-on approach to hiring women and comments about the appearance of women in his office.

The new revelations about Miles, who is now the head football coach at the University of Kansas, come from a 148-page investigative report into the school’s handling of sexual misconduct released Friday. LSU launched the investigation in December after reporting by USA TODAY uncovered systemic mishandling of sexual misconduct allegations. It hired outside law firm Husch Blackwell to conduct the review.

Of course he is. He went 0-9 last year. Would he still be forced on leave if he went 8-1?

Edit: KU fired him. My point still stands.

Cards finished up spring practice last week and had a nice wrap up with coach. Kind of weird still doing it during basketball season so it flew under the radar a bit.

Now this week I see a couple schools are shutting down spring practices for covid. So I guess we got lucky with that at least.

Stele, our schools agreed to a home and home series in a few years.

Indeed, Twitter was hopping this morning.

Should be fun, assuming y'all don't cancel again like back in 2008.

I think as long as Kirby is around we'll honor all of these home and homes. He very much wants a national recruiting landscape and playing all over the place helps that cause. We also have home and homes scheduled with Oklahoma, UCLA and FSU. Gotta get those sunshine state croots, before they can grow up and become Florida Man.

Haha Cal football on Twitter today

I love you, Football Team That Literally Plays Games On A Big Ol’ Fault Line

...

One day Cal will be a play away from winning at home and advancing to the playoff

the pass will go up, the receiver will be wide open, and they will catch the ball with ease

and then an earthquake will strike and that receiver will run directly into the open maw of the earth

Wasn’t that in one of the Batman movies?

DO NOT FALL INTO FAULT LINE.

Yep that sign sits in the visitors locker room.. which is basically right where the bottom right corner of that image is.

Also, even though Spencer Hall knows enough about Cal to know about the Fault Line, he clearly shows his true lack of understanding because the right words would be "Rose Bowl" not "advance in the playoffs".

Rules changes

Big one is overtime. Have to go for 2 in the second OT. And 3rd OT begins alternating 2 point possession attempts instead of drives. So definitely trying to end it quicker.

Taunting point of emphasis.

Coaches cannot enter field to argue a call, will get automatic unsportsmanlike call. Can't wait to see that one enforced.

The OT change is interesting. Fun fact.. i was there for the classic 1996 game between Cal and Arizona that created the Tomey rule the year after forcing the 2-point play after the 2nd OT (or is it 3rd? I don't even know anymore).

Someone wrote up an amazing article about being at that game which really stoked some memories for me.

Mannish is usually so quick to post a new SEC Shorts.

The AJC had a DOOZY of a Twitter headline to cover that one today. Sheesh.

Look, I know it's the wrong college football, but my alma mater just won its first national championship!

Marshall Thundering Herd beat Indiana Hoosiers in overtime for men's soccer College Cup title

Friends: Anytime anyone starts a thread to succeed a previous one, a link in the previous one would be greatly appreciated so that people don't get left behind for several months.

Anyway, in current news, the Playoff Committee is currently considering a proposal for a 12-team playoff that would feature the six highest-ranked conference champions and six at-large bids. The four highest ranked conference champs would get a bye; Notre Dame would not be eligible for the conference champ slot nor bye unless they join a conference.

We've discussed a million permutations of expansion here before, but I don't think anyone suggested this exact scenario. I'm not sure what I think about it, personally, although I've been and remain generally in favor of expansion.

It's different but I'll take it. The 5+3 was probably not enough to guarantee a G5 champ to get in with P5.

Tying the bye to conference champions makes that meaningful again so I do like that part.

I hadn't found this thread yet. This video had moments, but generally wasn't there best work. Maybe it's too easy to make fun of UT so they just phoned it in.

I believe they said the earliest any change could be implemented would be 2025-26 since that's when the current bowl deals expire... well I guess that gives Cal 3 years to get to the Rose Bowl... great...

I heard 2023 at the earliest, but presumably that would require a lot of agreement. Hey, if there's one thing CFB stakeholders can easily agree on, it's making more money.

Edit: And if you consider that the people doing the voting likely have a fiduciary responsibility on behalf of their organization, it would be hard for them to say no to an idea for 2023 that they'd say yes to for 2025, all else being equal.

Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a Dawg insane.

As a Chicago Bears fan... this resonated with me all too well.

Since there is no College World Series thread or college baseball interest on the site it seems, and since this is tangentially football related with Peyton I just wanted to post it somewhere. Cracked me up. Peyton is such a goofball. The "cringe" is what makes it funny the longer it goes.

I'm interested in college baseball, but the only thing I have to talk about is how we just hired TCU's coach. They knocked us out of the postseason four times in the last decade.

I actually watch way more college softball than college baseball most of the time. Game is faster and to me more fun to watch. But I'm biased after having a daughter play travel ball for years, and even playing in a tourney in Oklahoma City simultaneously with the Softball College World series and seeing a few games while we were there.

I'm just happy UT is getting better with Vitello as coach. Fanbase has really gotten into baseball during this season since UT's been ranked pretty high most of the year and continued its success in this postseason.

Plus, UT is starved for sports success lately. Outside of football, the basketball team tends to not do well in post-season, no matter the talent level.
