EA Sports College Football 2025

I don't want some AI generated RB (even if he's a 5* recruit).. I want Jaydn Ott in my backfield for 1, 5, 100 games. My coach rating doesn't matter because I don't let Cal lose. I just want to play an entertaining12,13,14 whatever it is now, games of football that culminates in a Rose Bowl and a 40 point beatdown of stanfurd. I can just do that in manual games, but I do want a season of stat tracking so I can have Jaydn Ott win the Heisman every year.

And even when I think about recruiting.. a year from now (is there goign to be a NCAA '26?), i'll just want our updated rosters then, and I would completely abandon my fake recruited roster.

Well yeah you can just start a fresh dynasty with Cal and ignore recruiting. Or set it on auto to let the CPU do it, just in case you want to play a 2nd season. But really you can just start this year over and over if that's all you want. It's there.

I just want to change the schedule.. I don't need to play "this" year, i just need to play "a" year.

Well yeah, custom schedule setting is in preseason, right when you start a new one.

OK, that's probably what I'll do then.

GO POKES!

Whoops, I just regressed back to watching Barry from the stands.

A funny thing I've noticed though, I feel like Fowler and Herbie give you ZERO energy in their broadcasts, while Rece and Co. make big plays feel big.

Also, as you can hear in the second video, the in-game updates are pointless. They barely exist, and when they do, they give you pretty much nothing (calling a 14-point lead "nearing blowout territory" is a choice as well).

Relatedly, am I missing it or is there really no out-of-town scoreboard to check during games? A thing that'd probably be pretty useful to keep track of late in the season, when you're fighting for a playoff spot?

Again, on the field, this game is so good, but in terms of off-the-field and features, it's literally a full decade behind every other game on the market.

Think the score ticker scrolls across the bottom, but it did that 11 years ago. And anyone's guess if the scores that scroll are the ACTUAL sim scores that happen or not, when you advance the week.

Does anyone have an explanation of how the player editing does or does not work?

Like, in Dynasty Mode, there's an option to tweak which members of the Dynasty can edit player ratings (I forget what it's called), but I don't seem to be able to edit anyone, even regen players.

And when I just try to edit rosters from the main menu, there don't appear to be any players who I can change in any way, style or ratings.

Like, I get that this is the result of the NIL deal and EA protecting itself from getting sued, but seriously, can I customize any of the players in this game? At all? In any way, ratings or style? Because it seems like they're showing me that, but at the end of the day, the best I can do is edit some gear.

Yeah all you can do is change some gear options. That's it.

Even for offline dynasty. Even for generated players in the future.

Can't even change player numbers.

EA knows because everyone has been freaking out since pre release. But they haven't touched it with either patch yet. And they haven't removed that dynasty option. And they haven't commented on it either way. So everyone is just guessing what they might do with the next big patch.

Like... then why even put it in?

If you can't allow it because you don't want to get sued, just say that. I get it! If EA allowed enough customization for fans to create 100% accurate rosters with the names and likenesses of the players, they'd probably get sued again.

But the current situation, where it's IN the game, you just can't actually use it as intended is just.... stupid? I can actually understand not letting you change the names or gear of any of the NIL players, but the ratings? And the game's been out for a month!

(None of this is an issue if we'd just professionalize the college game and the players formed a union that could collectively bargain, but that's a different discussion.)

Big patch tomorrow 6 am eastern. Probably be patch notes up when it's back online

Listen, just lemme edit ratings and we'll call it even.

Also, how did they only learn half the lesson from 2K? Badges are a great way to help give players distinct, individual playstyles and feels, but they should be semi-independent of ratings, not tied directly to them! Otherwise, they're just a shitty shorthand for "this guy is really good at jukes."

Default rosters updated with some missing players and maybe ratings changes

Can edit generated players ratings in dynasty.

Mass subs is now in dynasty

Hawaii proximity bug fixed

All I've seen confirmed on Twitter so far

Enabled the ability to edit ratings for non NIL players and recruits.

I'm not entirely sure how editing their ratings would violate the NIL deal, but whatever.

Further Super Sim tuning to reduce completion percentages across the country, especially limiting quarterbacks completing more than 70% of their passes.

My first season, Troy's QB won the Heisman after throwing 78% completions and 55 TDs.

Enabled Mass Subs for Online and Offline Dynasty games when playing against the AI. You will be able to sub in either your entire 2nd unit (if your starters are in) or your entire starting group (if your 2nd unit is in).

HOW WAS THIS NOT IN THE GAME AT RELEASE

THIS WAS A BASIC FEATURE IN LIKE NCAA 99.

There was sim logic to put in 2nd team. So if you were up big and simmed offense or defense but then played a series you might have backups in. But no one could really figure out what triggered it. It was a mess.

And with the wear and tear causing injuries I definitely wanted my backup RB in there when I was up 3 scores trying to kill clock in the 4th but couldn't make it happen.

Like, I want to be forgiving and stuff, I do! But some of the basic-ass shit that wasn't there at release when they've had, again, years to work on this game, is astonishing.

.....I mean it's not, all of that time went into Ultimate Team because we live in hell, but whatever.

No feature you've mentioned even crosses my mind as important.

I can tell you that I never bought old NCAA football games because the Cal fight song was never in them. EA world HQ is less about 30 miles from Cal, and they couldn't bother with it. I'm sure that feature is/was as important to you as mass backups are to me.

And speaking about important

I forgave the fact that they were using the old UnderArmour Sather Stripe design on our uniforms since newer Nike design wasn't available, but clearly EA understands its market well.

Carlbear95 wrote:

Well, to be fair, I think it's clear the method of playing CFB you prefer and the one being played by most people aren't 100% the same.

Anyone know if there's a way to set sim quarter length yet? I have my regular games set to 12 minutes, but I fear it's throwing off the sim engine's totals for other games in the season (although, again, the sim engine is Not Great) because I'm 5 games into this current season and there are less than 10 players with 50+ carries, and exactly two guys (one, not counting my HB) are averaging 100+ YPG.

Like, my HB's going to win the Heisman by default at this point.

That was in the patch notes. Sim quarter length is supposed to match now

Stele wrote:

Wait, so it wasn't matching before? What was it default set to previously?

No idea. Maybe 12 or 15?

In older games used to be sim was 15 and so if I played only 5 or 6 min quarters I could never get enough stats. But then if I simmed a game or half here and there I could catch up. Really annoying.

But this year I've been in the running for everything except Heisman while playing 5 minute quarters. So it wasn't too far off for some reason.

I play 15 minute quarters but gameclock runs down to 20 seconds.

Oh, for the love of...

...has anyone else noticed that AI teams all play like Navy now in Dynasty?

What I mean is, I picked up my dynasty, and I've noticed that most of the teams I'm playing are running 80%+ runs. So we're having great defensive games, because they're just running dive after dive after dive.

This might be an issue with the sim engine, because I'm playing offense only. But i'm looking at in-game stats and my opponents have thrown all of 2 passes at the half and we're often getting the ball in great field position because they refuse to throw it.

I wanna be charitable but the game's been out for over a month and the sim engine appears to just constantly be somehow busted.

Like, 2K has fixed this and my last gripe. 2K gives you the ability to set the quarter length when you're playing, and the quarter length when you sim. And when you sim, the Warriors won't play like it's 1959 and only take twos.

EA really should be embarrassed by some of this. I'm not even asking for the sim engine to be perfect, I'm asking for it to be basically competent. If they're not even going to do that, don't even put Dynasty mode in the game and just make it a UT-only title.

EDIT: Oh, and the AI still uses big hits way, way too much. I mean when you're playing the AI, when it tackles you, every second tackle is a Big Hit. Which would be fine, in NCAA Blitz. I didn't think that's what I was buying.

It's amazing, I haven't bought a EA Sports game in a decade, and this is following the same process I remember. Initially being wildly impressed, and the more I play, the more I find issues that really shouldn't be a issues.

EDIT v2: Oh, and as I predicted, the Wear and Tear system is busted. If your player gets tackled on top of someone, or otherwise goes down in a manner where they don't immediately touch the ground, you will rack up insane amounts of wear and tear instantly. Like, 15-20 points worth.

Haven't seen the Navy thing. But yeah W&T is a neat idea but implemented super poorly. Especially since they took away formation subs. I always used to have plays setup to rotate my RBs and sometimes get WR4 or 5 some snaps over WR3 here and there.

Barely know when a guy is -10 in stats. Usually there's a thing in the top right on play selection that warns you about injury risk and you can try to sub. But the whole thing is so frustrating. Thinking about turning it off, or maybe even turning off injuries.

My 2nd coach, the TX St OC, now OK St HC, finally hit level 50 this week. My OC/DC have stuck with me since the new job and are A+ and level 40 themselves. I got the #1 class 2 years in a row. 2 titles and 1 playoff appearance in 3 years. Thought maybe I would switch jobs again but they just extended me early, at the end of season 3 the week before coaching carousel.

I feel like I'm Oregon now, swooping in to steal recruits. I didn't get another MLB on the board in the first week or two and probably needed 1 to replace 2 seniors. But it was like week 11 or 12 and all of my other guys had signed, and I took a look at 4* just to see. Oh there was an athlete MLB out there with me at like 7 or 8, in Top 8 already, nearly flipping to top 5. Scouted and he was not a bust, so I offered, sent the house, and friends & family, because I have 75 points between me and the coordinators for every position except K/P. So suddenly I was all the way to 2nd the next week, he was in top 5 mode. And the next week I was #1. And the 3rd week he signed with me. And too bad for those other 4 schools who had offered and the 1 in the lead that I absolutely crushed.

I still lose a game once a season. CPU gets on a mission and I throw 2 or 3 INTs. (Ok one time it was 6 but I was down 10 and pressing) This past season because of unbalanced schedules, I ended up tied 7-1 for 2nd in the Big 12 with the team that beat me, but I never played the 8-0 team that got first. So I missed my first conference championship in 7 or 8 years of dynasty. But I still got in the playoffs. So in general I feel like I might be done for a bit. It's been a lot of fun but after coach level 50 I'm not sure what else to do in dynasty. I know you could try to play for 30 years or whatever but I rarely did that in the old games either.

I'm considering restarting as an OC, and trying to get the Syracuse job. I think it could be fun, this HC run has been nice but, might as well.

Question: Even if you take an OC gig, they pretty much let you play the whole game, Offense and Defense and handle recruiting, yeah? (I mean, I don't think they should but I think they do.)

Yes they do. In 2014 you could handle all the recruiting but were limited to only offense/defense in-game and the other half got simmed. But you can do whatever you want as OC/DC now.

I played my OC run true to that, choosing "offense only" and sticking with it through my first 4 seasons. Wanted to take a job after 3 but the contract extension lock out of carousel thing happened, so I had to do another year. It was pretty fun and the time flew by with the simming. I still do sim defense sometimes when I'm HC, as it is frustrating to me at times.

As someone who watched a great deal of THE Ohio State games last year, McCord is not as good as Georgia Tech would have you believe.

Patch this morning.

No notes yet but Twitter says you can edit player numbers now
