EA Sports College Football 2025

Just had to skip some of the taunting and yelling.

The between the play breakdowns from the guys at the desk were nice. Pointing out why play worked or didn't. If a throw was behind because of timing or off because of wear and tear. Crowd effects, etc. There was a hurry up bit where the defenders got off the line slow. Lots of little touches. Gameplay looks solid.

But it's not like they would show weird bugs in a preview like this.

I hope the review embargo is before the 3 day early thing, just in case I can't wait.

There's been enough drips and drabs of content coming out from content creators at this point that I feel like you can get a pretty good idea of the game via YouTube by now.

This is one of those titles where people online are going to yell about reviews for some reason, good or bad, and I dunno why. It's basically review-proof. Unless this game is an all-time disaster (and there was almost no chance of that), anyone interested is going to buy it.

Yeah there's lots of highlights. But I want someone who has spent 40+ hours playing a few seasons of dynasty to weigh in with what they have seen before I jump.

Then again there's probably enough options that I can tailor it to make me happy, as long as the core on field action is fun and relatively bug free. Hoping that extra year of polish helped. Honestly wish all sports games were on a 2 or 3 year cycle with just roster updates in between, to really make the next version worth it.

This is where I am with everything except Football Manager. I bought NBA 2K this year, got a decent amount of milage out of it, and I'll be back for 2K28 or 2K29.

EA is definitely leaning into the modern "any attention is good attention" idea of marketing, because there is no other reason to make Shedeur Sanders the #1 rated QB in the nation.

My CAP will fix that and lead Marshall to its first National Title in 29 is years!

Road to Glory previews today look pretty good. Been a long time since I played that mode

well we're just about a week away.. do we have enough early adopters to start a dynasty league?

When I'm playing offline just against AI for fun, Cal never loses, but if I'm stuck in a real group then I suppose I need to actually see what happens.

Like I said, looks fine, and will be a perfectly good purchase.

It'll be fun next year, when everyone's back to yelling about it just being a roster update again.

Ok so EA Play has the 10 hour game trial.

https://www.ea.com/games/ea-sports-c...

And that starts on July 16.

Game is out on the 19th.

If you have EA Play you get 10% off the game.

So I can buy EA Play for $6, get $7 off the game, saving $1, and still play it 3 days early. Who needs deluxe early access then?

The chances I can use up the full 10 hours in 3 days is pretty slim anyway. At best 2 hours a day after the kids are asleep and the wife lets me have the TV.

So I think that's the way to go.

And I guess technically you can just get EA Play, and try the game first on the 16th. And if for some reason you don't like it, pass, and it's like a $6 rental. But if you do then still buy before release, for pre-order bonuses and the $1 off, right?

Lol, is $1 worth the effort to sign up and cancel that service and be plagued with marketing emails until the end of time?

3-days early I suppose is a benefit, and you'll need the practice anyway to beat the future ACC champion Golden Bears anyways.

On PS5 it has the choice to buy the game and EA Play at once when you go to pre-order. One click.

Then click subscriptions and cancel and it will run until the end of your month.

I need to know if Teambuilder is out and where it is if/when it is out.

I'm happy to wait, then I can spend all of next weekend going all out.

Anyway, I'm still not finished with my Cyberpunk replay.

And there will likely be at least 1 or 2 patches in the first month to solve borderline game-breaking issues.

Where’s my Teambuilder!?

Find your team.

1. Cal Fight Song - Check
2. Oski - Check
3. Full Stadium for Big Game - Check (super realism will be a 25% full stadium for every other game, we'll see)
4. Accurate Big Game Logo - Check
5. "ACC Teams" - check.. but sad
6. "You tell the whole world this is Bear Territory". I'm not sure how they got this wrong.. there's the "real" version "You tell the whole DAMN world this is Bear Territory", for some reason there is a radio edit version "You tell the whole WIDE world this is Bear Territory". 30 years of watching Cal football, there has never been an adjective-free version. not sure how they ended up with that.
7. Acknowledged Rivalry game.. great. Not sure how there is no mention of either The Axe or The Play. Though maybe it will be referenced during gameplay.

8. I skipped ahead to stanfurd. Whats great is that while I guess they have an official fight song... the band almost 100% plays Free's "All Right Now" as its fight song. Problem is, I don't think EA licensed it. nearly 30 years of big game, I don't think I've ever heard the song that is playing for stanfurd. 100% awesome. The 3 people from stanfurd who will buy the game I'm sure will be disappointed.

FOOTBALL'S COMING HOME

EA Play worked. Was able to start download of the Deluxe Trial at 4pm, once deluxe released.

Have the standard version bought for Friday. Hopefully I won't burn all 10 of my hours before then. Can't really play until the kids are asleep tonight anyway.

Folks with early access: how is it?

It feels like NCAA!

Between my two sons and I playing last night, we got through about 6 games. Just felt fun. So many plays. I found some defensive zones hard to crack.

More fumbles than I’d like, but one of our games was SDSU vs SJSU Fresno St. (sorry, Legion) in the rain, so they contributed. Also contributing was the way they changed the option from the previous game, completely reversing what the button push does (QB keeper with the button). So my QB got annihilated and fumbled. A lot.

I could accurately tell my son as o best him that it was okay, because he was in diapers the last time we had a college football game.

Shacknews ought to employ more AI to replace their writers (at least for sports games).

From their "Best teams to rebuild" article.

Stanford [sic] "Playing in the PAC-12 means routinely facing off against schools like Oregon, Colorado, and Washington, but you’re in it for the challenge, right?"

if i forgive them even picking stanfurd in the first place as a team to highlight... maybe the person who's obviously been in a college football cave for the last 2 years ought to not be the person writing copy for one of the most anticipated game releases.

"Stick to Video Games" much?

Look, I know CFB25 is great, but why can't I have my football uniform fashion simulator?

Yeah that option read switching X from handoff to QB keep is complete screwing me up.

I did mostly practice and exhibition last night, trying to learn the playbook and controls. I was so good at option just 2 days ago in 14 but my mind is broken now. Maybe in a few more days it will click but it's hard to unlearn a decade of muscle memory.

So I haven't played Madden in years. I guess it has some new passing mode recently. That's in NCAA too. But the default is the new revamped. But if you want to understand how the other 2 options for free form work, this video helped me.

I might practice and see if I like this even better than default tonight.

I haven't played a football game since NCAA 14. I just fell off. I don't like Madden and 2K doesn't make a game anymore, obviously.

I have to say that I really like it so far, but it's far more complex. So I started with the Road to Glory mode and I'm just playing out my dreams of being a college QB (I landed at BYU). That way I can get used to the basic controls, pre-snap stuff, audibles, etc. I will probably eventually try the dynasty mode, but it's really complex if you haven't touched one of these games for over a decade.

Yeah I was thinking about that too. Since so many controls are updated and things changed from 14, RtG might be a better start than dynasty. Ease me into the full playbook and stuff. Especially with RPO, I tried running some plays in practice and I'm not always sure what the options are.

Tempted to just be a RB or WR. I did one of those back in NCAA 12 or 13 and it was fun. But I guess QB would let me see more playbook, audibles, etc.

There was a brief moment where I thought, "We should get a GWJ dynasty going" and then I saw how complex it was and noped out of that idea.

Yeah so that touch passing is great. At lunch today I kicked the shit out of Cincinnati (31-7) and kept the Keg of Nails today. I was really struggling with the default revamped in practice, couldn't complete anything. And adding pressing L2 to some passes seems like it would make things harder, but I could really throw the ball away from the defense, where only my guy could get it. Some fantastic touch! I think I love it.

I haven't checked. I know you can crossplay normal games but I don't guess you can crossplay dynasty? That alone will probably end it because we only have so many PS5 vs XBox people. If it's possible I'd be wiling to try it. Never did online before, despite playing 2 or 3 versions of this game for several years.

Okay, I was holding off getting this early in no small part because I thought that Early Access only allowed you a limited amount of time to play (like 10 hours), but it's seeming like that's not the case, and if you get it early, you can play all the way through until Friday if you want?

Am I correct or wrong? Because I was going to hold off but I'm taking actual, necessary sick days this week and suddenly, I have all the time.

EDIT: OH! The 10 hour limit is for EA Play, but if you just buy the game, it's "Go crazy."

..........crap. Well, i'm sick, might as well make the most of this cold.

Yeah the EA Play $6 for a month is a 10 hour trial, which I've only spent 2 hours of so far.

That lets you play 10 hours until Thurs at midnight, when the game officially releases. And it gives you 10% off the digital copy of the game. So you're actually saving a dollar if you go this route, and getting to play a little bit early.

You can even start the EA trial and "rent" the game and decide if you want to buy it before Thurs night, to still get pre-order bonuses.

If you want more than 10 hours before Thurs, that's the extra $30 for deluxe edition. Still, do the EA Play thing, to save 10% at least.
