Hidden Gems of Apple TV+

I got Mrs Sorb into Silo this morning and she’s just binge watched all 3 episodes. She’s now sulking because they haven’t released the rest yet, which she yelled at me about for quite some time.

I feel this was very unfair.

VERY unfair...of you to lead her into that trap.

I noticed a few weeks ago that episodes of Ted Lasso were available on Tuesdays at 9PM. Until this week

The reviews I've read haven't been very kind to this season, but personally I loved every minute it and will miss it greatly... until the Roy Kent/Jamie Tartt spinoff of something.

Edit: Worth the wait though!

I watched the first two episodes of Platonic and it's pretty good so far.

Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan are friends who had a falling out and are reconnecting. But their dynamic may not be healthy for themselves or the folks around them.

The first two episodes are just scratching the surface of them meeting up again after 5 years of not speaking, so it hasn't gotten too deep into actions/consequences. But it's interesting to see a show where it seems to genuinely be a platonic relationship (it name drops When Harry Met Sally, but even as a character points out ultimately Harry and Sally get together).

I thought Ted Lasso was great all the way through. Maybe some slight pacing issues in season 3, as they rushed to tie things up. But still, great show. Breath of fresh air.

Loved Silo. Curious how it compares to Wool? I'm thinking of reading the rest of the series and I'm wondering if I should read Wool first.

If you can manage it I’d actually recommend waiting until the tv series has run its course. I honestly think the tv show expands on and improves on the book material and you’ll save those glorious reveals (which are mostly unchanged from the books so far) for the tv show.

Hmm. I might have to give Silo another try down the road.

To be clear, I *love* Wool - I've reread the entirety of it a number of times - but the acting in the first 4 episodes of Silo was just so bad it really put me off continuing to watch it. Hopefully the cast grows into the roles a bit more as they progress...

Wow, that's wild to me. But I just might not be the best judge of that kind of thing... I think Tim Robbins brings the cheese with his role but it works for me.

My wife and binged S1 of The Afterparty over a couple of nights and we really enjoyed it. It’s a comedy murder mystery and the flashbacks of each person’s story is based on a different movie genre - including a musical episode featuring Ben Schwartz. Highly recommended.

And season 2 is out now also.

This makes me almost want to get Apple TV

I probably will get it (soon as I finish my month of Disney +.)

Looks phenomenal. I love the official ‘Godzilla Evacuation Route’ sign.

Apple TV has some great stuff. That looks phenomenal.

I currently picked up Apple TV. I'm watching Foundation which I'm a little late to the party on but it's awesome. There's also Invasion, HiJack (I think that's the name of it) and now Monarch? I watch TV mainly when I go to bed at night and don't always make it through one episode before falling asleep. I think I have enough TV in just those series to last me until 2026!

Don’t forget Severance if you're new to AppleTV+

Or Ted Lasso. Or For All Mankind.

And likely Foundation or Silo, but I have yet to finish their respective first seasons.

I finished Silo last week, and absolutely loved it.

Platonic is also very good

Silo is one of the best things I've seen on any TV channel in a very long time

Silo and Severance were AMAZING shows. I am caught up on both of those.

We’re only a few episodes in, but Bad Sisters is pretty awesome.

I really enjoyed the politics of Foundation season 2.
I get the feeling I would get more of it from reading the books. So that will happen soon. There are 3 of them, correct?
Do they sort of correspond to the 3 foundations and 3 seasons?

Seven books, based on the titles they're on book 4 (Foundation and Empire) or 5 (Second Foundation)
I only read the first two and its been a while, but it does seem like they're trucking through and could be on track to finish with a 3rd season.

Edit: Actually, based on wikipedia's synopsis we're only partway through Book 4

We're getting further and further away from being able to map anything to events in the books. We still had a lot of named characters from the books in season 2 but the events that played out were pretty different. The Mule is a big character from the 3rd book of the original trilogy but what we've seen so far is already pretty divergent.

The show should probably say "Inspired by..." instead of "based on..." but it's an entertaining story.

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters — Official Trailer

Was looking for something actionny to watch while on the treadmill, looks like this will fit the bill nicely...

Kurt Russell channeling Steve Bannon.
