Interesting: Apple TV+ ordered an adaptation of Hugh Howley's Wool series. Starring Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette (she's also executive producer).
I don't really know Ferguson's work, but that could be a pretty cool product in the end.
Ooh, I love Wool. Hope they don't screw it up
And on June 4:
Watching For All Mankind and liking it However, it is a bit dry. Not as crazy as Man in High Castle or other alt history shows. The show is rather grounded with just a few things that are unlikely. There was storyline dealing with a person that had mental episode and another person getting a broken bone. Nothing rang try about that situation but I guess it was possible.
The highlights are the space scenes and knocking heads with the Russians. If you don't political drama you will probably hate this show.
One funny thing was I seen a review of the first two episodes. This lady hated it because it wasn't historically accurate. Really odd that she completely missed the point of the show.
I found it too accurate in that the male behaviour is really gross by modern standards. I’m sure the alt history stuff would be intriguing but it’s hard to watch.
One of the ‘alts’ of the shows alt history is known by the end of the first episode. The other is where the show gets a lot more interesting and it directly relates to women and their role in the space program. I think it’s episode three where that kicks in. I was lukewarm before then and very engaged after that point.
I wasn't expecting much from Mythic Quest, but I've come to really enjoy the show. The characters and humor are spot on and then they occasionally whip out a pure backstory episode that's serious and touching.
Just saw announcement and trailer for upcoming, 'Foundation' based on Isaac Asimov's books. Looked awesome.
Late to the party, but I just finished binge watching the entire first season of Ted Lasso, and I absolutely loved every minute of it. And I absolutely do not care for sport at all in real life. Not even hockey.
Cannot wait for July 23rd.
Barbecue sauce.
New episode of Ted Lasso may not have been the greatest, but it had two references to one of my all time favorite movies (Magnolia), so it gets a pass.
I'm not sure how to interpret the fact that the press room was at half capacity: COVID restrictions during shooting, the fact that the FC is no longer in the premier league and fewer people care, or both?
I agree that it wasn't a strong season opener, but it was still enjoyable. The Tom Cruise reference was pretty funny.

I figure it's because they're no longer in the Premier league and Lasso isn't the new hotness anymore.
I think this episode did a great job of setting up the season while not being the best episode itself.
Apple TV+ released “Tears of the Anaren” as an audiobook from the latest episode of Mythic Quest.
This is worth listening to. Even if you didn’t watch the series.

In the first press conference of season 1, Rebecca said something like "I haven't seen the press room this full in quite some time." I'm assuming the half empty press room was intentional, and was communicating a combination of the team's relegation and possibly a return to the old normal.

Just did the same a couple weeks ago.
Probably going to wait another 10 weeks to start season 2 though. Can't handle the week to week stuff.
I should have known with Bill Lawrence (Spin City, Scrubs, Cougar Town) involved that I would love it. But I underestimated how good it would be, despite praise everywhere.
Great to see Anthony Head on screen again too. Have missed him since Buffy. Although I'm sure he's been doing stuff in England the last 15+ years, I haven't seen any of it.
Been watching For All Mankind. The alternate history show where the Russians land on the moon first. Wow what a great show.
Blew through the first season pretty fast. Started off a bit slow then picked up the pace with some pretty tense episodes and then they just seemed to say screw it and hit the gas upping the tension even more. Just fantastic. Considering going back to watch S1 once I finish S2 and I never do that right after finishing a season of a show.
S2 the focus seems to be more on drama, which I am more than ok with. By now I'm really invested in all the characters and the writing is pretty fantastic. There's a scene where the Baldwin daughter says she wants to go to the Naval Academy and the Dad flips out. The dialog of how the wife and daughter react was pretty amazing. The scene where one parent is ready to disown a child has become pretty cliché now and how they handle it here was so new. Kudo's to the writers.
Also love how Gordo has become the unlikely hero, for me at least, in S2. Didn't really care for him in S1 but I'm so rooting for him here.
Have to say the soundtrack to this show is fantastic. Back in Black was like the perfect song for Gordo in S2 and kicked in at just the right time - almost pumped my fist at the moment. But all long just great music for the scenes and particularly near the end of the episodes.
So will be looking forward to S3 whenever that comes out.
Foundation's not an accurate adaptation. Maybe this new thing will still be interesting, though.
I'm definitely glad they didn't just film the book as written... It is very much of its time.
I definitely like some of the things they are doing with the story, but others I'm less sure about so far.
One thing I’ll say off the bat, don’t show me the trailers for your new series when I’ve started watching the first episode. The trailers either worked to get me here or I didn’t want to or just didn’t see them, either way they are, at this point, irrelevant. It’s partly my fault as I missed the skip button whilst wondering what the heck I was skipping.
Edit: Loved the first episode (it’s free to watch.) Time to re-up my subscription for a month or two.

I think they had to make the changes they made so far. Part of why the books were considered “unfilmable” is because there was so little characterization and the ideas were more important than the people. In order to make a television show they had to change that.
I'm a bit bewildered at the universal hatred on reddit for Foundation because it seems to me a solid adaptation of a really mediocre novel. I haven't read them for 20 years or something, but they're a good premise rather than good books. The show is giving Hardin an arc, and room to grow into the (still underwritten) character from the books rather than him being a snarky, sneaky politician who just fixes everything and runs rings around the naive academics.
Giving the empire an actual face seems like a good move to me too. The cloning thing is fine, I suppose. I wonder if they're going to get past the first short story at all.
Little America is fantastic.
I am surprised there is no love for it here.
That is all
I hadn't been following reddit. I've been generally impressed so far. Actually started rereading the Robot books, admittedly not the greatest writing but interesting to see how much plays into the Foundation series, even the first 2.
I binged Foundation at the absolute worst time. I was planning on watching a few episodes and then kept watching not knowing if the season was complete. Well, it isn't complete and the latest episode ends in a terrible spot.
I mean, I guess you could call them cliffhangers but it is more that some serious shit just went down and they cut to another unresolved story and then credits. So I am going to wait until the rest of the season is released
The series desperately needed some narration at the beginning. I don't know if this is how Foundation was written, but it just throws you into different situations with no background and jumps back and forth in multiple timelines. You shouldn't have to be two and a half episodes in to get a grasp on the universe. I even read a brief synopsis of Foundation an would have been much more lost if I hadn't.
The good news is that I love a lot of the characters. And kudos to Asimov if he wrote a female led and driven series back in the 1940's.
I love: Gaal, Raych, Salvor, Demerzel, Salvor's mom and dad, Hugo, Phara, the empire's gardener/crush, Gaal's teacher and mom, Seldon
I do have lots of question about the story. There are seemingly inconsistencies or illogical decisions. But many of those I look forward to learning about from the series itself.
Hell no (Asimov). There have been a few thoughtful changes to make it suitable for a modern TV show. I’m a fan of the original works but I agree with how they’ve handled it so far.
Ha, the first three books are a complete sausage fest. Barely any women anywhere.
The first book is a collection of short stories. I think they're a paragraph into the first one so far, or arguably even a little earlier into Hardin's story since he was already the mayor at the start.
Well that is to be expected (sausagefest). But I have to say I really, really, really enjoy Demerzel. I will be bummed if you tell me she is manufactured for the show or just a minor blip in the books.
