The GWJ JRPG Club - Q1 2021 - Dragon Quest XI!

Nice! I found the post-game ending to be among the most satisfying experiences I've ever had in a Dragon Quest game, though I think your mileage may vary depending on where you came into the series. For me, though I played DQ I and II a little bit, DQ III was the first one that I played to completion, and it really hits me in the nostalgia sweet spot. So I was quite primed to notice all the little nods to DQ III throughout.

I'm finally back into DQ11 after weeks apart from it. I was firmly in Act 2 before, but now I just obtained a new mode of transportation, shall we say, and I'm exploring the Battleground. I'm level 45ish. Any speculation about how far I am from the end?

I’m already a little fuzzy but 10-15 hours?

I’m on the final boss at about 70 hours without doing too many side quests, level 50. Took an hour to get 3 phases into the final boss and he wiped me out. Not sure I want to do that again, it was getting boring. Is there an easy way to get past him?

Turns out after a bit of googling that if you just go to auto tactics you can beat him easier. I did that and took over quite late in the fight as on auto no-one was using items so had run out of MP. Still took a while to get all my characters back, buffed and doing damage again. Glad that's over!!

Credits rolled. I'll go back for the Remembrance stuff tomorrow. It was a very enjoyable game all throughout - fantastic graphics and sound; solid world-building; plenty of humor mixed in with the deadly-serious story.
