NFL 2020: Week 14

Nick Mullens in the books for 3 out of the 4 TDs in the SF/WAS game - unfortunately, only one of the 3 was for the Niners.

Fumble returned for a TD plus a pick six, Washington's only TDs of the game.

All these years I should've figured that Paul Atreides was a Jets fan.

Looked like three BS calls to try to give Browns some points there.

Roughing the QB on a head to shoulder hit.
Fumble that Ravens came out of the pile with and they didn't signal possession before that.
Pass interference on a batted ball.

But they missed the FG anyway.

Oh hey, Scorigami.

Lamar Jackson, pulling a Paul Pierce, returns from locker room on 4th and 5 to score go ahead TD.

And then game winning drive after that too, setting up FG for the win.

And Ravens by 3 was the line.. so that safety sealed it. Good/bad beat for a lot of people.

Lamar Jackson needed to poop.

Does this count as an official team source?

The Browns were also +3.... So that safety was extra hilarious.

Teddy isn't the entire problem.

You can say that again. Panthers let Denver score their 2nd highest points of the season, and only the 3rd time they've scored 28 or more points all season.

Denver's offense is bad. The ugly first half you described above was good for them.

I just looked at Drew Lock's stats; before today, he'd thrown 9 TD, 13 picks. Today? 4 TDs, no picks.

As a Drew Lock dynasty truther, I think there are mitigating circumstances. The following happened to his ability to run an offense this year:

  • preseason: lost WR1 Courtland Sutton for the year. Sutton and Fant are the key offensive pieces from 2019.
  • preseason and week 4: rookie WR KJ Hamler injures hamstring twice and doesn't play until week 7.
  • early week 2: Lock sprains his throwing shoulder, returns week 6.
  • week 4: TE Noah Fant sprains an ankle, returns week 7.
  • week 6: Lock returns but plays like crap. not 100% or just missing Fant and Sutton?
  • week 7: Albert O (Lock's TE from college) starts mixing it up in 2 TE sets.
  • weeks 7-9: Drew Lock exceeds expected point projections, actually putting together a decent 3 week run.
  • week 9: Albert O out for the season with torn ACL.
  • week 12: dumbass covid party

I think we've finally settled into a place where Patrick/Jeudy/Hamler are a good trio of WRs with some practice reps behind them, and they can't shut down the offense by locking down Fant (who was out for most of week 14 anyway). It's been a chaotic season in Denver, but Elway might give Lock one more year to prove himself.

Lock is just a shade under 6'4", and the Broncos won't be anywhere near Trevor Lawrence territory, so Elway will stick with him... for now...

Drew Lock is 100% going to play out this season. They're out of the playoff hunt and they know he's raw and he hasn't had any sort of consistency on his offense.

Matt Stafford. Your 2021 Denver Broncos starting QB!

In Lock's defense, he played on Sunday against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Oh, sure, Jeremy Chinn and Brian Burns are future All-Pros, but most of the rest of the defense is replacement-level at best.

That said, Lock took full advantage of a bad defense that has a real knack for letting guys get open deep. And short. And on intermediate routes. Good QBs dominate a bad defense (or even a good one a la Mahomes against Miami), while bad QBs play down to the bad defense.

The Panthers shut out the Lions in Week 11.

Lamar needs to slide more.

Oh GOD, not like that.

The last 7 minutes or so of the game were pretty epic.

Browns score and go for 2 to cut it to 6.
Lamar out, so McSorely fails to move the ball.
Browns take the lead by 1, 4 min left.
McSorely gets a couple first downs, then injures himself on 3rd and 2, right at the 2 minute warning.
4th and 5, Lamar sprints out of the locker room, has the run easy, but instead throws it deep, to a guy who had dropped 2 or 3 balls on the night, but he catches it, and runs in for TD.
Ravens get 2 to go back up 7
Browns score in less than a minute to tie.
Ravens drive into FG range. Tucker never misses. 55 yards for the win.
But... 2 seconds still left on clock. Browns try goofy lateral play, and fumble out the back of the end zone for safety.
Scorigami and Vegas goes nuts with 5 point instead of 3 point win.

I'm rarely sad that I bail early on a Sunday or Monday night game. But last night was the exception. First half was fun. Second half, according to the highlights I watched this morning, were epic. Oh well.
