Felix “Ground Control to Major Tom” Threepaper
Welcome folks, and happy “87th Anniversary of the release of the Marx Brothers’ Duck Soup” week! It was the last film to feature Zeppo, and a box office disappointment at the time, but posterity remembers it as the best Marx Brothers film. You may all celebrate by playing Grim Fandango.
You can’t possibly have played all the games in last week’s list yet, and this week’s list knows it. It’s a bit of relative calm after a storm.
Mars Horizon is a strategy game centered on a space agency, developed with input from the UK and European Space Agencies. It’s kinda like Civ 6, but everyone is going for a science victory. Beginning in the 1950s, 5 countries are in a space race to research, build, and launch their rockets. The winner is the first one to land an astronaut on Mars. Along the way, you can be first to land on the Moon, launch satellites, or explore the solar system. Where Kerbal Space Program goes super-granular on physics, putting you in the shoes of a rocket scientist/engineer, Mars Horizon puts you in the shoes of the CEO of the company that hires the rocket scientists.
Katamari Damacy REROLL finally comes to PS4 after being on everything else for 2 years. Speaking of remasters, the Master Chief edition of Halo 4 hits PC and the Xbox Series X/S.
Mortal Kombat 11: Kombat Pack 2 adds previous MK characters Mileena and Rain, and the celebrity guest is Rambo, with Sly Stallone’s voice and all.
Five Dates is an FMV, rom-com game; it’s got the rom-com font and everything. You play as Vinny, a London man doing online dating during a pandemic. It touts high production values, a branching storyline based on your choices, and claims to have 70 hours of FMV footage, the most of any game ever.
The Switch is getting Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It’s a mashup of Breath of the Wild with Dynasty Warriors. Story-wise, it’s a prequel to Breath of the Wild, and there’s familiar activities like crafting and cooking, but the focus is on Dynasty Warriors-style hack’n’slashing with lots of enemies on screen. It’s been out in Japan for a few weeks and got rave reviews—it’s been a long time between drinks for big-ticket Switch ‘sclusies. Plus, it will have 4 custom amiibos and amiibo support for anyone still using those.
My real GOTW is all the games I didn’t pick from last week, but from this week’s list, I choose Mars Horizons for being a solid strategy/tycoon game.

I'm super curious to see how Sniper Elite 4 runs on Switch. I'm expecting incredibly muddy visuals due to the maps being so large.
Otherwise, enjoy your new consoles! Assuming they arrived on time.
Off to watch some Duck Soup!
How did I live before digital distribution of old, cheap games?

The wife is insisting we get Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. I'll probably give it a go on my own, too.

I was thinking about getting Katamari on the PS2 until it landed in the Xbone this week.
