Genshin Impact Gacha-of-the-Wild All

I tend to swap between these two teams as needed:

Tend to mostly swap between the first and fourth members of each team (Barbara and Lisa electro-charging everything or Red Bunny Girl BURNS EVERYTHING!) with my archers popping into take crits and the melee fighters coming in as necessary. The second team is seeing more use as the need for a claymores has become so important.

Of course in Depths/Abyss I mix them all up as needed.

Must be nice to have some 5 stars . Also, it seems you (in general) will want to limit the number of characters you are leveling when going in to upper levels as you will run out of upgrade materials. I'm level 65-ish on 2 characters and 60 on 2 others, and I'm feeling the crunch. WAY too many leveling and tier leveling material types.

Also, the official soundtrack has been released (at least for Liyue) in 3 videos. Here's the first.

There's a track I really like around 37:18. Way better than expected for a dev with mobile origins, for sure.

This is my standard team I run with:

If it's a fire-based boss or domain, I'll switch out to my Anemo MC and Barbara. They're underlevelled, but generally more effective in fire-heavy situation nevertheless.

So far I've been 100% F2P, and I got very lucky to get Qiqi. I might start dropping $5/month on the 30 day crystal pass for as long as I keep playing. It'd be nice to have a few more pulls and I feel they've earned the money at this point.

Also, it seems you (in general) will want to limit the number of characters you are leveling when going in to upper levels as you will run out of upgrade materials.

Yeah, for sure. Even with the extra materials from the battle pass, every single upgrade choice needs to be carefully considered. I don't know that you could even keep four characters fully at the current max level for your adventure rank, let alone the eight or nine characters needed for the abyss stuff.

The good advice I've been trying to follow goes something like this:

- Once you've reached AR25 or so, and you've (hopefully) gotten a decent number of characters to work with, take some time to assess what you've got. Figure out who makes most sense to be your main carry (ie, the strong DPS character that's going to be auto attacking while abilities are on cool down), and make sure they're always maxed out as much as possible. Character level, leveled up strong artifacts (or at least cup and feather), weapon level, then talents.

- As you progress through world levels, try to be ready to max that character out again each time you rank up.

- For the rest of your team, they can sit back at previous world level caps. Ascended if possible, of course, but depending on their role they can be fine either 10 or 20 levels back from your current cap.

- Try to keep your primary sub carry (the character who is most responsible for setting up and/or triggering elemental reactions in combination with your main carry) ten levels back. The more they are the triggering character though, the more important their level is, since reaction damage scales with the character level and elemental mastery of the triggering character.

- Characters that are more there for supporting effects (healing, crowd control, energy generation) meanwhile can be as much as 20 levels back. Most of those functions are going to be less dependent on character level, and since you usually won't be keeping them on the field very long, they can be a bit squishy if need be.

Of course, it gets a bit harder to follow that general rule as you push into the higher world tiers, especially if you're interested in building two teams for the later abyss content, but for the most part that approach has kept it so that even though I'm almost always out of one resource or another, I've always been prepared for when the difficulty jumps happen with world level rank ups.

(I did just hit AR40 last night, and this bump has maybe been a bit rougher than others, but really that mostly means that I'm actually having to think about either healing or using food in boss fights again. )

So tomorrow's the day for update 1.1! Four new characters, the final act of chapter 1, and city reputation system that rewards various perks, including gadgets that make updrafts, create a temporary teleport point, and help find chests. Sounds pretty nice.

I'm of course already obsessed with getting one of the new characters, and not just because she is a petite cat girl. She also has a female version of my name and her birthday is within a couple days of my own. It must be fate!

Weirdly, I haven't played in a few days. Not sure if the grind got to me, or if I simply fell off because I've seen pretty much the landscape there is to see.

I sadly havent been able to play anything at all lately... taking down Halloween stuff and how Xmas.... and this and that. This game interests me and we started it,, but I still have many doubts

I started playing this just to check it out. Movement is real janky, but you can make it work. Will probably keep playing, but I won't spend any moneys on it.

Been having fun with this one. My daughter and I have been playing it in parallel together. It's been fun to swap stories and to see who's ahead of who (spoiler alert, she's wayyyy ahead of me). Just been F2P for us so far, but I think I'll drop them some coin soon, since I've been pretty impressed with the game overall.

The update is now live!

If you are at least adventurer rank 5, make sure to log in sometime in the next three days for 600 primogems! (I assume the issue fix gems went to everyone)

This is the one that's hardest on my itchy trigger finger. I hate having underleveled teammates in my party, but it really is wise to do it this way purely because of how scarce leveling materials are as you progress.

I'm mostly indifferent to Childe's character design, but I'm gonna end up with one shortly because I want all three of the rate up 4 stars from that banner. According to my wish history, I rolled a total of 50 times on the Venti banner, so I'm only 40 away from pity for Childe. I think I have about 80 rolls saved up atm.

I found the movement kinda janky when I started, but it's pretty solid once you spend a few hours with it. It's mostly just the dash to sprint and figuring out when you can glide after jumping off things that take some getting used to.

Also, you can go here and try to enter code GENSHINGIFT for a bit of primo and a few books or some mora. It worked for me, but I'm seeing some others claim it wasn't valid for them.

I'm not crazy about him, but I admit I like his power set. An archer who can switch to melee is pretty nice. The pity hero could be any 5-Star, Childe just has an increased chance of being the one.

I'm just here for Diona, though.

Oh, that's true. I guess I could end up with any of the normal banner 5-stars. So if I understand correctly... The odds of my 5-star being Childe should be 50%? And if I did get a different 5-star on the Childe banner, the next 5-star I rolled that same banner would be Childe guaranteed, right?

And yeah, he may end up being quite strong. I do like the idea of a stance swapper. I just don't find his design appealing.

Regardless, I'll guess I'll find out tomorrow, because this update is taking forever!

My understanding of the pity system (which as played out for my rolls) is that if you roll anything other than the banner's rate up item for a given rarity level, your next item of that rarity level is guaranteed to be a rate up item. So yes, you are correct in that right now if you roll any 5 star other than Childe, your next 5 star will be a guaranteed Childe. And, the same goes for the 4 star rate up characters -- so, if you roll anything that's not Ningguang, Beidou, or Diona right now, your next 4 star (at most 10 rolls later) will be guaranteed to be one of those three. That said, for the 4 stars there is no mechanic to ensure that you eventually get one of each of the three rate up characters -- ie, in theory you COULD roll an infinite number of times and never get Diona (although that's pretty unlikely).

This also applies to the weapon rate up banner, but unless you don't want characters at all, that's probably a bad choice.

The standard banner has no rate up items on it, so the only pity guarantees is a 4 start every ten rolls and a 5 star every 90. (And for anyone who might not be aware, pity counts are unique to the banner TYPE, but carry across when rotating banners change, so the example mentioned by Dyni is how it works -- if you rolled 50 times on the Venti and/or Klee banners, you are at most 40 away from a 5 star on the Childe banner.)

Regardless, I'll guess I'll find out tomorrow, because this update is taking forever!

Try pausing and resuming the download -- that made it go much faster for me.

I played some on PS4 but I don’t seem to be gaming at the TV a lot lately. My PC probably isn’t up to it and mobile seems kind of a bad fit. Kind of curious how everyone is playing.

It plays very well on mobile, haven't tried anything real challenging but I actually prefer it on mobile.

I'm playing on PC. I can't imagine trying to dodge incoming attacks on some of the higher difficulty domains while playing mobile. Might just be old man syndrome, though.

Heh, funny, just after describing the pity system last night I spend the gems I had been sitting on and hit a 5 star on the Childe banner -- Qiqi.

Honestly, I'm not upset about that at all since having another healer option is never a bad thing, but I think if I wasn't going to get Childe I would have been happier with a constellation for Keqing.

I got Childe after 30 rolls, which put me at 80 on that banner, so only one 10-pull shy of the pity counter.

I dumped 50 rolls in total, and aside from not getting lucky with another 5 star, I'm quite happy with my lot. I received 6 rate-up 4 stars in an even spread: 2 Ningguang, 2 Beidou, and 2 Diona. Also, one 4-star greatsword.

Also, I totally missed that they were upping the Resin max to 160. That's a welcome change.

Yeah. I mean it's nice to give some leeway on logging in and using it and even more so with the condensed resin letting you bank resin for ley lines or domains, but I do wish it would regenerate a little quicker.

Oh, that's the thing I forgot to say about the pity system last night. Apparently folks have determined via some combination of data mining and analysis that at least for the 5 star pity counter, it's actually a progressive increase that starts around roll 70 or 75 or something, so you actually need pretty terrible luck to go all the way to roll 90.

Yeah, very grateful for that change. It was super annoying to either have to log in quickly in the morning or else lose a valuable resource by only playing once a day. Of all the F2P customer abusive nonsense, that one of the worst bits implemented into this game.

Mobile is really bad at higher difficulty and such, having played on both. I would not attempt the Wolf or Spiral Abyss (haven't done much there anyways) on mobile, and had real trouble with Stormterror on mobile due to limited camera controls, so I just wait for PC time for that.

If anybody hasn't done the Wolf for the week, I'd love to tag along for your hunt in MP. I did it before the reset and apparently I can't redo the fight in my world for the BP points.

I tried it out on mobile and, for me, it was uncomfortable. If I could play on PC, it’d be nice to have as an additional option.

Sorry, this is probably just rehashing old discussion.

The discussion around this game is interesting. It seems to have grabbed some people who haven’t really played a game with gacha before. And its gacha rates are among the worst.

I think it helps a lot that you actually get to do something with the characters you pull. They're not a fancy portrait that zooms in a bit when it does its special attack. They're fully modeled characters that you run around with and fight with and see in animated cutscenes. That makes it a lot more engaging.

It's also probably in part why the pull rates are so terrible. It has to cost a lot of money to make characters of the quality level that Genshin does.

Yeah definitely a big difference there. I personally find even the characters you get for free fun so far so I don’t mind. Just been interesting to observe some people go through the realization of what a gacha system.

If i dont (wont) buy or spend any money, will i STILL enjoy the game... or do I NEED to spend money?

I haven't spent or couldn't imagine spending anything after about 15 hours. I'm oberwhelmed with characters. You probably won't feel any pressure to spend a dime until late game stuff. Totally worth going f2p and enjoying the stories and characters until you hit the gatcha wall.

Thanks tuffalo!!!!!

Traveled a huge distance to get to Liyue Harbor. I gotta say I'm loving this game for what it is. It's just nice and chill. I like the combat and element interplay. The controls are kinda janky, but you get used to it. The writing has a nice sense of humor which surprises me.

It's a very interesting game.
