Star Wars: Squadrons Catch All - Lock S-Foils in Attack Position!

After playing through the free trial campaign missions a few times, I started getting better at the combat. I sprung for the whole shebang. So once I am comfortable enough actually having fun flying instead of it being painful abusive repetitive work, I'll probably end up joining you. Too bad there's no equivalent of a RIO in the game.

In a Zoom call with my parents and siblings that's running long. Will be along for the festivities once I get free of that. If you get desperate and need me to fire a match have somebody message me on Steam.

I'm in a D&D game with the kids that is running long, so I'm probably not on for a bit.

Yeah still putting toddler to bed over here. Hoping to be on at 930 or 945

I think this is why Sat night rocket league starts at 10. Hehe

Well, i think the inaugural night went very well. Great fun was had and i hope to see people again next Saturday!
Oh, i put the game into the apollo scheduler channel so it'll be there for people to sign up starting every monday (if i did it right)

Dang, last night did not work for me at all. Sorry to miss it, hopefully next time!

I don't know what this is. Is this a Discord thing? I'm not up on all the voice chats these days.

Thanks for setting this up.
Despite my tendency to explode often, it was lot's of fun.

Yeah, it's an organizing channel on the discord.

Boy do I need to dial in my flight stick settings. I'm flailing all over the place.

I need to dial in my arm. My stick settings are pretty solid at this point but I’m still flailing.

I think it's mainly practice but I felt like I was driving a garbage truck no matter the vehicle. Maybe there is a settings issue.

I had a blast playing, everyone! Thank you so much for the games! I won't be available this weekend, but hopefully I can join you guys the week of the 20th.

i agree it's an arm dialing in thing mostly, getting used to not oversteering is a process, i still over steer all the time, but when i get in the zone it's really smooth.

Oh there's definite stick dialing to be done as well. The options screen has all kinds of values you can tweak.

The thing that frustrated me about that is the single player is tuned so that I didn't need to really tweak my stick. Then I got into multiplayer and I really felt the dead-zone issues and such...

I've set my dead zones to 0 and have applied an "S" curve to my stick in the HOTAS software. I don't want any dead stick movement, but definitely need to dial in the fine aiming.

I have issues with story aiming. Maybe I should try dead zone 0 too

Next game is tomorrow (saturday) at 9pm EST, hopefully we can have a nice friendly dogfight or fleet battle like last week! there's an event in the apollo events channel so we can get an idea of who's coming.
fly safe and see you tomorrow night!

I found the event in the channel, but I couldn't work out how to interact with it to RSVP.

I've got D&D this week, but if we squad up again next week, I'm in.

I know a few more folks who play... should I recruit friends or do we want to keep this to folks who are already here in the community?

As long as they are people who would fit into the gwj community (respectful, willing to have fun etc) I'd say come one come all. The community growing is a good thing!
The event has a few reactions underneath it, you just click on the one that applies.

Bumping this to remind people that today is Saturday.

And to say that I threw the Discord link to some of my old Star Wars Galaxies buddies. Hopefully that gets us one or two more folks.

So sorry I missed this week! I was really looking forward to it, but alas, children ruined my fun again. Hopefully you guys had a great round without me, and hopefully I can join in next week!

Yeah, I had family stuff. Hopefully this weekend.

it's all good, we had 4 so we even got some dogfighting in. fun was had and that's all that matters see you when we see you!

Just a reminder that squadrons night is tonight at 9EST. hope to see some of you there!

Any turnout tonight? I was running late.

nah, unfortunately tonight was pretty dead, we'll try again next week

So... finally finished a couple other games and decided to complete this story yesterday. 5 missions later and I was done. Felt like I was much more successful this time around. Very few ship deaths. A few from that one Empire mission with the weird physics near the end. I got into a much better groove with Rebel ships, where I was switching power to shields and then back to lasers as I made capital ship attack runs. Just overall felt a lot better than I did at the start of the game, even with a long break.

So it's kind of fun. Definitely worth the $15 I got it for, and of course now it's free on PS+. Think I'll probably sell my disc.

Still haven't done any multiplayer. I did try the fleet battle tutorial to get some free decals. I guess I might try that co-op mode against AI to start. That is usually my preferred way to play online stuff, even if it is a steamroll.

Did anybody still play online here? Could try another Saturday night game maybe if y'all want...

I just fired up multiplayer for the first time in months! I'm ... out of practice.

Love to play with you guys but I think time zones might be an issue - I'm in AU. How does the GWJ group work - is there a dedicated group on Steam, is there in-game support for finding your buddies, do people just message each other?

we tried for a bit getting a weekly group up and running but interest kinda died out a bit after a few weeks where we just couldn't get enough people. we had great fun when it worked out but unfortunately it's at it's best when there are a minimum of 6-8 people around to do pure GWJ on GWJ fights and it's really hard to keep that many people going consistently. maybe with a few new people we can sustain a monthly game though!
Before we were meeting on saturday nights 9pm EST. not sure how we'd square that with out non US time zones, but if we can get a group going i always love hopping into the cockpit with friends.
friend finding is... a little arcane, not sure how it works with crossplay since everyone was on pc of some stripe or another.

Never did MP, but I'm game to hop on if we get something organized.
