October is nearly at hand, so it's time to announce the dates for this year's International Gamers With Jobs Day! Thank you to everyone who took the survey to help determine the dates; it was a delight to go through each of your messages. We tallied up the results, and it was a tie between the weekend of the 10th and the weekend of the 17th!
So we thought... Why not both?
2020 is probably as good a year as any to allow ourselves to celebrate a bit extra. This will allow for a less intense pace and provide additional flexibility in scheduling so more folks can participate. A few of you asked for "every weekend in October," but this year, that would mean five weekends! That did seem a bit much; however, we appreciate the sentiment and your enthusiasm.
As we mentioned previously, under the current situation, we ask that IGWJD celebrations be held primarily online. To help encourage and assist in coordination and planning, we've created a simple GWJ Gaming Sign-Ups Spreadsheet. This will allow all of us to gauge interest and plan for specific games and groups. Once a group has coalesced, those folks can hash out the finer details, such as dates and times, in the comments below or over at the #igwjd Discord channel.
Please, feel free to add entries onto the spreadsheet for any game, old or new, you'd like to play with other forum members. You never know what someone else may have sitting deep in their Steam library or massive itch.io collection that they'd like to revisit. When you add a new game to the sheet, mention it in the comments here or the Discord channels so others can go take a look. There are separate tabs for Video Games, Online Board Games, Online TTRPGs, and Other Meetings/Get-Togethers. Be sure to check all of the tabs that interest you!
To participate in community gaming, you may need some of the following:
- A headset & mic (and the ability to mute yourself in some way)
- Access to any of the games you'd like to get involved in
- A Discord account
- A Zoom account (if you intend to host a Zoom meeting)
- A webcam (if you would like to participate in any Zoom/Discord dance parties or toasts)
- A Twitch account and streaming setup (if you'd like to have your games hosted on the GWJ Twitch channel in between scheduled streams)
Throughout both weekends, we'll also host livestreams over on our GamersWithJobs Twitch Channel, including appearances from podcasters and other GWJ content creators, as well as the regular rotation of channels to host and highlight. We'll post streaming schedules a little closer to the dates. If you'd like to have your play hosted by our Twitch channel or want to stream directly on the GWJ Twitch account, please reach out to Amoebic via PM, or email call (at) gamerswithjobs.com to coordinate the schedule.
Thank you all so much for your love, enthusiasm, and support of GWJ. It means the world to us that you would consider us as part of your home. Whether you're an active multiplayer-gamer or completely new to gaming with us online, we would love to see you come out for IGWJD 2020!
Much love always,
