Felix “Han Shot First” Threepaper
Welcome folks, and happy “63rd Anniversary of the release of Jailhouse Rock” week! Jailhouse Rock was, of course, one of Elvis’s big hits, featured in the 1957 movie of the same name. It is weird to look back at the ancient business practice of making an entire motion picture to showcase 3 or 4 songs. You may all celebrate by playing a game where you skip the cutscenes.
It’s a slower week, with some big names looming on the horizon. Something will probably be robbed.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Night Road is a text-only, interactive novel. What is it with the spate of games using this RPG system? It’s like it’s popular or something.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection - Halo 3: ODST comes out on PC. Multi-platform features, like cross-play and mouse-and-keys support for the XBox, will be added in later.
If you like rocked-up versions of classical music, then Fred3ric is for you. It’s a rhythm game that pits you against cyborg-ified classical composers in music-battle duels.
Port Royale 4 brings the long-running, Age of Sail, trading simulator into the twilight of this current generation. You’re in the Caribbean, as usual, on a map that will remind you of Sid Meier’s Pirates!. The presentation and interface have been buffed to this-gen standards, and the trading, city-building, and political mechanics have been tweaked in lots of little ways. You can now choose to play for one of four colonial countries, offering four different single player campaigns. The most controversial change replaces the real-time, naval combat with a turn-based system on a hex grid. Players liked the old system because you could cheese it by kiting with small, fast (and cheap) ships, but it got old pretty quick. A deeper combat system could give Port Royale more legs and make it worth saving up for the bigger ships.
Rebel Galaxy Outlaw comes to the consoles this week. This is the space sim with a western vibe that folks are referring to as the Firefly simulator, or the Han Solo simulator. I like the idea of space sims: just you and a ship making your way through the ‘verse, trading, fighting, and whatnot. Then I find myself in the vastness of the game space without a clear idea of what to do next, and I drift away. That’s why I’m happy to hear that the single-player campaign in Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is solid; it sounds like the perfect hook to drag me through. This could be the space sim that finally sticks. GOTW.

Genshin Impact finally releases, so maybe I'll stop seeing ads for it everywhere. It's a Chinese-made open world F2P Zelda/JRPG thing and has a ton of money behind it.
13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is my "shoot, that's coming out?" of the week. It's taken Vanillaware forever for this to come out, but it's been getting rave reviews.
How did I live before digital distribution of old, cheap games?

I might get Trollhunters: Defenders of Arcadia at some point in the not-so-near future, but mostly out of love for the original series.
Already had 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim pre-ordered, so that should sit nicely on my shelf for a bit before I get to dive in.
Now Playing: Crimson Shroud, Blood of Bahamut, SMT IV, RDR, SBCG4AP, Octopath Traveler, The Baconing, The Legend of Dragoon.

I just put an order in for this today. I simply have to play this thing after some of the reviews I've read.

It's certainly gotten a good set of optics from the ones I've read.

I tried out 13 Sentinels a bit yesterday completely sight unseen expecting a typical Vanillaware side scrolling action game involved mechs. Instead (at least initially) it's been heavy on dialogue and an absolutely buck wild story. I am all for it
If you have the slightest interest in racing games, please check out art of rally. It definitely has a learning curve, but it is absolutely stunning.
