Xbox Series X|S Catch-All

Interesting that Diablo 4 is not listed as Game Pass.

...yet

Just picked up a series X, naively expecting I’d have some time to play it when my sub 1 month old daughter and wife are sleeping.
I’ve subscribed to games pass, which has dozens of games I’ve been meaning to play for a good long while, so between that and elden ring I expect I will be set for a many, many months, but if there’s any other kind of community agreed on must-have kind of thing I’d love to hear it.
Also, if there’s any kind of setting that should be toggled or hardware issue I should have on my radar, I’d love to hear about that as well.

Dude, you can play your brains out:

1. Sit on couch, reclining about 45 degrees.
2. Put baby on chest.
3. Grip controller with hands, gently squeeze baby with wrists/forearms.
4. Try not to hurl baby across room when you die for the thousandth time in Elden Ring.

5. Baby learns to prefer real controllers over the Fisher Price noise making "controller" that's supposed to distract her from messing with the real ones.

(apparently no amount of songs and lights can compete with the magnetic bits on an Elite controller)

Ouch! I was gonna say to take your oldest, most drift-prone controller and just give it to the baby, but an Elite is a heck of an expensive toy!

Given the rate my wife used to go through 360 controllers, that 1st edition Elite controller has paid for itself at least twice. The real concern is the detachable sticks are choking hazards.

And as durable as they are, I'm pretty sure the Elites aren't rated for that much drool...

My Elite slid off my desk once and the two larger back paddles found Narnia and I haven't seen them since.

I'm sure there are 3rd party replacements available if you wanted to make use of them. We had to get new sticks for my wife's because her thumbnail eventually wore a groove in the stick tops. The other detachable bits should be similarly available. They aren't quite as nice as the originals but the Elite controller with them is still better than a base model and there was WAY less cost and e-waste.

Cool...MS announces the Elite Controller Series 2.

Comes in a Core version ($129), with more or less just the controller, and the full version ($179) with all the extra paddles, thumbsticks, etc.

Supposedly sports 40 hours of battery life.

Also, Elite Series 2 will be available in the Xbox Design Lab!

The ads made it look like the personalization in the design lab was extremely limited for the Elite 2, otherwise I'd be ordering one right now.

The Series 2 has been available for the past two years or so. What they announced today is the "Core" version, which looks like it's the Series 2 without the additional accessories, for a reduced price. The Elite Series 1 & Series 2 are easily the most comfortable controllers I've ever used, even just using the standard set of thumbsticks that the Core would come with.

Also, you're totally burying the lede here:

To celebrate the newest member of the Xbox Elite family, the Xbox Gear Shop is excited to announce the new Xbox Elite Jersey. This premium gaming jersey includes both styling and technical features, including a zippered sleeve pocket and magnetic chest strip to keep your Elite components ready for action. The Xbox Elite Jersey is available for purchase today from the Xbox Gear Shop for $99.99 USD MSRP.

Personally, I prefer the standard Series S|X controllers. Preferably, those with the rubberized grips. I love my Forza Horizon 5 controllers more than I expected (yes, even more than the pink one).

I’m not so patiently waiting for them to move to Hall effect sensors for the sticks

I miss the 360 era controllers. The frame felt more solid and had less flex. The X1 and Series X controllers feel cheap in comparison.

Do the series 1 paddles work with the series 2? My wife's been wanting to replace her original Elite, and if we don't need to buy those metal bits again that'd be nice.

Yes, one of my three of four beeves with my Series X after skipping the XB1 era is the controller feel. I default to PS5 on multi platform games when possible because the controller feels two or three times better.

Are there any fighting game fans who have tried using one of those Brooks converters to connect their PS4/PC-only fight stick to their Series X or S? Could you please share your experience?

(I have a Hori RAP4 that I plan to use for as long as humanly possible)

Installed a X360 game to the Series X in the living room. If I run a Series S in the office under the same account, I still wouldn't be able to play the X360 game unless it's available for purchase from the Store or thru Game Pass, correct?

I guess I'm hoping for some kind of content sync between multiple Series consoles under the same account. Installed X360 games still do the disc check on the Series X which is also where I have my doubts that these games would be playable on Series S.

You're probably out of luck because of the disk check.

But if Microsoft is hosting the backwards-compatibiliy version on their servers anyway, it's probably worth checking the console's store to see if they'll sell you a digital license for a reasonable price. Last time I looked I had several 360 games listed among those available to download and install on my Series console.

And keep an eye out for that game on the weekly sales. I have picked up digital versions of a lot of discs I have for a couple of bucks thanks to the sales they have.

Hey! Did anyone else experience weird controller behaviour yesterday or today until they went into the Device option in the menu and updated the firmware?

The Series X controller I got with the system back in August 2022 is now suffering from some bad drift on the right thumbstick, as well as having some bizarre & sporadic left thumbstick and D-Pad sensitivity when navigating the dashboard.

I went through online Xbox Support self-serve to discover my controller issues are not covered under warranty. This is just over 6 months after getting the hardware. Whatever happened to the standard 1-year manufacturer's warranty?

Completely forgot he was still in the game to be honest.

Me too but he was a big deal in the earlier consoles. I liked his stuff a lot.

I felt like, at the time, he was a breath of fresh air. An actual adult with an actual job not just doing Poochie-adjacent things and being a radical dude!
