GWJ Fiasco Nights 2020!

Hello Friends! It’s been a while. Let's play a game.

"FIASCO is an award-winning, GM-less game for 3-5 players, designed to be played in a few hours with six-sided dice and no preparation. During a game you will engineer and play out stupid, disastrous situations, usually at the intersection of greed, fear, and lust. It’s like making your own Coen brothers movie, in about the same amount of time it’d take to watch one."

I would like to invite previous players and new folks alike to join us for some digital games of Fiasco!

Previously, we’ve played Fiasco using Roll20. We may still use that platform, or consider others at the suggestion of player preference. I’m considering discord, as there are some bots that may allow for organizing and planning purposes, as well as allowing for spectators if the party is open to it.

Let's start by gauging interest! I'm hoping to make this a regularly scheduled day and time so folks know when it's happening. My preferences are Friday or Saturday evenings. So, I'd like to know:

-Who is interested?
-Which day works best? (Friday evening or Saturday evening?)

Please speak up in the comments!

Some ground rules:

-Player Limit per session: 4
-If one cancels, the game will go on with a trio.
-If two cancel, the session for the day is cancelled.
-rotating seats every week, new players welcome

Due to the nature of the game and the level of commitment required, there are going to be weekly signups over on the GWJ Community Discord in the #apollo-events channel. Please as an admin (Green or Blue) for information on how the signup-bot works.

Playsets, Logistics, and Rules:
In the past, I left it up to the players to suggest Playsets they might want to try, so I strongly recommend if you've signed up for a game to take a peek at some of the Playsets available in the links below to see if any catch your eye. Don't be afraid to bring it to the table, it's merely a guideline and can (and often does) go in wild and crazy directions.

I strongly suggest picking up a physical copy of the rulebook to have on hand or have the playset downloaded on your phone, or use two monitors if using digital documents. the game board google doc will likely take up a lot of screen real-estate for readability of game board text. I would not recommend using the game board google on mobile or smaller tablets so you are able to see the entire board at once.

You will need a headset and microphone. Possibly push to talk, as well, so background noise and chatter are reduced and are not distracting from narrative play.

Things can get wild, crazy, and silly. I hope they do! I would like to have a few conduct rules for everyone:

Conduct yourself with the level of respect we ask of our forum members. Racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, hateful, bigoted, or explicitly pornographic language or content will not be tolerated and will get you kicked from the sessions. Try to be clever enough to be coy. If it breaks the ToS for GWJ, expect it not to be tolerated at the table. We're all adults here, and I won't be needing to warn you more than once should it happen mid-game.

"Yes, and..." Fiasco is an improvisational collaborative storytelling game involving all players. Come to the table open and willing to try what's handed to you. Try to avoid persistent “no, actually” statements (shutdowns), centering yourself as the “main character,” or behaving in a way that forces the other players to persitently center your character’s choices over those of the rest of the group.

Here's some useful links to get started. If you would like to host your own on different days, by all means!

Man I would love to take part but I'm in the UK so the time zones wouldn't work

Interested in playing. I love me some Fiasco and have played both in person and virtually many times. Preference is Saturday evenings. Hope to get something going. I could probably convince my SO to play as well if we need players.

Yeah, same here unfortunately. I'd be all over that given my recent quadrupling down on tabletop RPG stuff otherwise!

It's back! I will certainly be up for some Saturday games, maybe not every week because I'd be murdered at home. Is there a Fiasco setting for people who play too many ttrpg?

There has to be a Dark Dungeons Jack Chick style playbook, right? There does not appear to be. I feel like that would be real easy to write up.

Also, I'm interested in this.

Maybe not reoccurring, but I'm still interested in doing a fiasco with euro-folks! We can work something out

Yesssssssss...

Seconded this!

I'd very much like to try a session at some point, Fri/sat are best for me

I'd definitely be interested in this, and am on Eastern time (USA), so could conceivably play with some Euro folks. Saturday is better than Friday for me. I've never Fiascoed but love tabletop rpgs and improv activities.

Sorry for the delays!

I'm trying to sweet-talk the mods in the GWJ Discord into getting a dice-bot so we can play the games entirely over discord. I used to use Roll20, but apparently the dice RNG there is poor, and the account creation process isn't very speedy.

It's a little short notice for a game tonight, but I'd like to start planning for next week and ongoing
I'm Amoebic#0951 on Discord, send me a message and I'll add you to the group chat I'll make there!

Would be down, love that game!

I'm interested. No preference on day or time.

Discord friend request sent from rugbyape#8873.

Don't forget to hop over to the Discord channel #fiasco-chat and check in there as well if you're interested! We'll run sign-ups every week with the Apollo bot.

This weekend we had enough folks for two groups! Group 2 has room for one more person

I'd be down to do a play-by-post on discord

We have space for 1-2 more in the (euro/early noon group)!
7pm bmt - 12pm eastern - 1pm central - 11am pacific

Gah sorry for dropping in an out like that. Fumble-fingered links in Discord app.

Anyways, is there ever a game later, like after 8 Pacific? Never played before but been wanting to try. Can’t really join in till the kiddos are in bed though.
