Steam Summer Sale 2020 Spend-All

That's the thing that struck me. It controls arcade but in practice the game leans tactical.

I think that might have been the disconnect on release as mentioned in the posted review. People were expecting a twin-stick shooter, but it's actually a strategic tactical combat game that just happens to control super fluidly.

Thanks! I've picked it up.

Lore is pretty dense too. Mostly comes in the form of a Codex that you pay to unlock piecemeal. Strange but the prices are fair and I'd venture that it obliges the player to invest in reading the material as you're paying for it with the money you earn. Very well written.

But that seems like how the game's economy works on a broader scale. You pay to unlock pilots, vehicles, Freelance missions, etc. Seems intelligently integrated as a system overall in that it always keeps bread-crumbing you along with fresh new unlocks.

And it's a way of communicating the setting. You're in a corporate dystopia, and you buy everything -- including information -- from the company store.

Brigador is finely crafted in all sorts of ways.

LOL. The first 3 sections (out of 5 I think?) of your Official Contract are already unlocked and man is it a kicker.

Written in convincing legalese, you're basically signing away everything including the right to be erased, along with your family. It's bonkers how it plays out, just getting worse and worse, but written in that calm, matter-of-fact fine print jargon.

So damn good.

Playing a nice little isometric RPG with strategic battles, Vampire Fall Origins. Currently £5, loads of levelling and questing plus loads of humour. Dead easy to pick up and play, recommended.

Some 2nd week additions to my library:

W40K Space Marine: I've been meaning to own a copy on PC even though my 360 is in perfect working order. But... how long will that last? Great, underrated game. And now that I'm very much interested in everything W40K, I figured why not.

Brigador: Aaron D. - you can collect your commission from the developer now! I actually did watch that Youtube review (and from the looks of many recent user reviews, so did a lot of new buyers). But your detailed mini-review really helped to sell it to me. I've only played a few missions so far and can say I dig the look & feel. The absolute control scheme is actually working better for me! Then again I am a weird guy sometimes.

Dawn of War: Soulstorm: Like I said, I gots W40K on the brain. A coworker gave me his disc copy years ago but I figured $3 and change, it's nice to own it on the cloud and get workshop access to this amazing community mod called Ultimate Apocalypse!

I noticed they finally added a sale price to Command & Conquer Remastered, but I can't find anything on the site about it? Anyone care to enable?

C&C is one of my favorite releases this year.

Package is incredibly comprehensive and feels like a ton of TLC went into it.

Tons of content, tons of extras. Plus it has Workshop support.

Easily one of the best remasters I've seen to date.

C&C is not a particularly good game by todays standards (the path-finding, oh god, the path-finding). But if you have any nostalgia for it, it is amazing. And a pretty good remaster indeed (only sad thing is that they lost the original video footage and couldn't remaster it)

Picked up
I am Alive = Mixed reviews but I liked what I seen.
Galak-Z = Unfinished but the price was right.
Paratopic = Short like 30 minutes horror game.
Nitroplus Blasterz: Heroines Infinite Duel = take wifus from different animes and make them fight.

Bought Greedfall and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
Welcome to the pile.

Here is my haul so far. The big question is do I pick up Transport Fever 2. I want to play some American Truck / Euro Truck Simulator before I pick up any DLC.

Once again I held off on some that I’ve repeatedly considered buying, like Wildermyth, Star Traders Frontiers. Also, I forgot Circle Empires was in my cart and bought that before I fully decided to get that instead of Circle Empires Rivals while it is on sale from Indigala.

Thank you all for reminding me I have games from last sale to play. The two I still have an eye on are Red Dead and Total War 3 Kingdoms. Any thoughts? I have a new mid range gaming computer coming but it’s not a total beast so worried about RDR2.

3 Kingdoms is very good. If you like Total War games, it's a no brainer.

I played a bit of RDR on Xbox because it's on gamepass. I bounced off of it. Maybe just not enough time in my life for it right now. It looked really beautiful though and if you're into the wild west, I could definitely see getting into it.

I picked up Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 for 55% off, and it's consumed my life. I previously did not care much about cars, nor knew much about cars. Now I have strong opinions about fuel pumps.

Let us know what you think of ST:F, Robc.

Haha! I think I know what happened here. I just went to ... do something ... and it shows that robc already owns Star Traders: Frontiers.

So far my only purchase has been Classic Sudoku. I've been watching the "Cracking the Cryptic" YouTube channel the last month, and I decided to try to teach myself how to solve harder Sudoku. I bought a book of puzzles, and I purchased the game. Be warned, it starts out moderate and gets harder very quickly. The puzzles have some hints, but sometimes that is not enough. They are all handcrafted puzzles, so usually they are fun to solve. And I will say I am learning new techniques.

I've already bought a few things, but I keep adding and removing "Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr" from my cart. The full collection is steeply discounted, but it's still a little bit high considering the mixed reviews I've heard.

Big fan of the Warhammer universe and I've heard they've improved it a lot since launch, but I can't seem to get a solid yay or nay from the posts I've been reading.

I'm leaning towards "nay" since I'm already having a blast with Path of Exile and Grim dawn so I'm pretty busy...But that damn Warhammer license is tugging at me.

Hey, it's $9, Godzilla Blitz. For that price, everyone should have it lol. It's way too good to miss.

Unicycle, do you have Three Kingdoms yet? That's the best I've seen yet. Bear in mind, the feedback I got from friends is that the Warhammer Total War games really revived the franchise, but I can say from my own experience that Three Kingdoms is magnificent.

I also started watching Cracking the Cryptic a couple of months ago, and it got me to buy one of their iPhone Sudoku apps (if only to help support them; even the early ones are a bit tough). I feel like I've become a better Sudoku solver just by watching them and learning the tricks.

Mostly posting to raise awareness of CtC; really good stuff - especially the puzzles with the crazy extra rules bolted on all over the place. If you think Sudoku is "just" a 9x9 grid, check out The Miracle Sudoku

I’m not particularly into Sudoku but that Miracle Sudoku was a joy to watch. I think it was a Jeff Cannata recommendation if I recall correctly.

Haven’t bought anything from steam yet this sale, but I’m considering Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan which was talked about on the CC. Anyone else check this one out?

I did but Assassins Creed Odyssey at 75% off (apparently it’s $80 CDN regular price)

I picked it up. I know nothing about Warhammer, but I do like a good ARPG and having a non-standard-fantasy setting did appeal to me. So far I'm mixed. The controls and UI are.. challenging. I have been playing M&K but I'm starting to think its build for a controller (and comments seem to hint at this as well), so I may switch to that. Since I know nothing about the universe the story is totally bouncing off of me, but I think that's pretty standard for ARPGs.

I think if the universe is something you like, the sale price is probably good enough, but I've played PoE and Grim Dawn, and I found both of those more fun. Maybe my tastes are changing though.. i've started to prefer the roguelike ARPG's where the upgrade / weapon paths are kind of fixed and you just keep playing random maps rather than the Diablo like loot explosion then searching through everything for the ones that have green numbers. I have really enjoyed Children of Morta, Hades and Moonlighter. I picked up Moonlighter during this sale and have already put a few hours into it and have been enjoying it.

I've been using Sudoku 4ever on my Android for 7 or 8 years probably. The ad-free version was free on Amazon app store forever ago and I got it then.

It shows you techniques for solving in the menu. But you can also ask for hints during a game and it will walk you through the steps, naming the solving technique it's showing you as you do it.

Can't imagine anything better and it's there in my pocket all the time.

I finally bit on total warhammer 2 plus tomb kings and vampire coast. Seems like I could be able to get 20+ hours out of it and it will be good to have it hanging around should I be inspired to see some TABS inspired warhammer destruction. It seems like ranged works better in 2 than in 1. I can probably spend 15 hours putting that through its paces alone.

That is assuming I can play anything any time soon

I also wasn't at all into Sudoku until that channel spontaneously popped up as a YT recommendation. Would it surprise you to learn that Simon (the solver in The Miracle Sudoku) is a fan of Starcraft, and was in the Top 5 Masters in the EU? Bonus Starcraft Sudoku video.

Not on sale, unfortunately, but one of my favorite Sudoku-like games is Everyday Genius: SquareLogic

I haven’t played it, but I’ve heard Return of the Obra Dinn is a fantastic sudoku game.

I sure am glad Aristophan happen to bring up Sudoku/CtC which spawned all the extra discussion! I'm going to go lose a bunch of time (after work, of course) watching CtC now! WOOOOOO!!!

Question for the group: is code vein worth $35 or should I wait for a deeper discount?
