Steam Summer Sale 2020 Spend-All

Pages

The sale is upon us. I've seen lots of folks asking if there was a thread for the sale. There wasn't. There is now.

Deeply disappointed that this wasn't a link to Rick Astley or the Kitty-Cat Dance.

I think the lack of an immediate thread and dearth of responses kind of reflects the lack of overall excitement with Steam sales at this point. I may pick up a couple of things but definitely not obsessed with it like I used to be.

Everything on my wish list is on sale. But I am still to cheap to buy a new computer and my ancient beast can't run most of it well.

I picked up Shadow Tactics and Homeworld Remastered Collection. $11 isn't bad for the number of hours of entertainment they should provide.

I’ve got $26 in my cart, which means I could get a $5 game for free if I could find one.

I’m specifically shopping for fun, simple couch-mulitiplayer games to play with my kids. I’ve already got Ultimate Chicken Horse, Stab stab stab and Ultimate Stick Fight in my cart.

Recommendations?

My kids like Heave Ho, Headsnatchers, Gunmy’s life, gang beasts and Nidhogg already, and we already have overcooked.

EDIT:

I thought about push-me-pull-you, but it’s not on sale? How did that happen?!

Those games look more like competitive couch, and I play mostly coop-couch (that's what my wife likes), but if you think they want to check out more cooperative games:

Unrailed
Out of Space
Moving Out
Diner Bros

I have all of these and enjoy all of them. Before dismissing Diner Bros as just an overcooked clone, I actually find it a different game. Its much more about efficiency and managing more stuff instead of having the environment fight back like it does in OC.

Not that I actually need any games, I have $25 in my steam wallet from returning Total Warhammer 2 (/ducks).

Any big discounts, including the 6$ off?

My first inclination is Doom:Eternal.

Some reasonable discounts on VR titles, which frankly are the only real draw for me in Steam sales these days.

Oh crap, I just saw Jedi: Fallen Order is 39.99 CAD.

Hmmm, choices choices. That or Doom.

Jedi is quite good. If you want a story go for that. If you want a rush of gun play DOOM can't be beat.

Rick Astley is doing some amazing covers on youtube like the Foo Fighter's Everlong. It is a shame he is so attached to a iconic joke meme because he is a damn good vocalist.

For the first time in a while, I'm actually kind of excited about this sale. There is a bunch of stuff I want to pick up and it looks like most of it is on decent discount.

I need advice! The only Civilization game I never played was Civilization III. I enjoyed all of them (with the later ones being my least favorite.) I know it's a only a bit over a buck, but there are so many games to play, and so little time, is the game something that would still get played and enjoyed even though it's well past its prime? Or should I just get back to Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and the more modern games in my library that are staring at me?

Just a heads up that the original Homeworld expected heavy use of formations and tactics that didn't translate well when they remastered it. They basically put HW1 in the HW2 game engine with updated graphics, and those engines were developed by different studios. They had a patch early on that helped with this a bit (and may have done more tweaking by now), but I'd already been irritated by it enough that I'd uninstalled. While the game assets are still OK for being 22 years old, if HW1 feels unplayable switch over to the classic version which is included in the remastered edition.

That being said, if you've never played the original it's an amazing game... I re-played through it so many times I knew where all the mission triggers were for every mission. HW2's gameplay is a bit better, but the story is a little weird.

For those of you who like Myst-style puzzle games, Quern: Undying Thoughts is $7.50. Highly recommended!

Doom and it’s not even close

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I haven't played the games before so I'm not really sure what to expect, but I've always heard great things, generally.

$5 couch co-op? Pick a Lego game, any Lego game.

Weakest Civ game of them all imo. I would definitely skip.

Side note, that cover is AMAZING, as is this one:

Titanfall 2 is down to ~$10, which is probably a pretty good price point for it if you didn't get it for free through one of the other services.

Also picked up Doom 2016 at $6.

Human Fall Flat feels adjacent to those, and is very fun with two people. I think it supports up to eight people. Think Gang Beats but cooperating to overcome physical scenarios together, eg tandem row boating with the finesse of a three-year old.

Are there any Lego games that support more than 2 player couch coop?

Hmm yeah you might be right. I haven't played Avengers. You'd think it would do 4 player but maybe not.

A friend has been bugging me since January to get Cuphead (only 25% off, but whatever), so I did. And oh my gosh, is it amazing! And hard! But amazing!

I'm tempted by Shadow of the Tomb Raider and, while gritty Tomb Raider is not my favorite, both the reboot and Rise were fun enough for me to play the next one in the series.

INDIE Corner Roundup

Recommends
ScourgeBringer. It's a fast past 2D slash -em up rouge lite. First two hours is a rush and isn't much in the tail end but a solid good title.

Streets of Rogue
It's a character based SNES looking rogue lite in a future city with hamburgers and killers.

The Surge 2: best dark souls clone. Some of the best environments too.

The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories
A platforming puzzle game Castlevania style game. No combat and you can tear off limbs to solve problems too.

Fell Seal: A wonderful Final Fantasy Tactics style game.

Gunfire Reborn: Mini Borderlands X Rogue lite.

Monster Train: Slay the Spire card game.

That's $10 on Switch right now. I was just trying to figure out what the heck it was.

Pfft, the new Doom is good but it ain’t that great, unless Super Mario Assassins Creed Doom is your thing I guess. For me the first game was superior in almost every way, Eternal suffered from “kitchen sink syndrome” and was a big step backward, it’s still a really good shooter though.

If you like Star Wars at all then it’s a no brainier, get Fallen Order. If you are into shooters and don’t mind the idea of new game mechanics then do what he says and get Doom.

I bought Jets n Guns 2 (and battlefleet gothic armada 2 to get the 5$ off)

Bought Borderlands 3 as I am weak. Was considering No Man’s Sky. I have been loving having this new computer. I can’t quite bring myself to pull the trigger on it though.... I just still feel so much that it’s a curiosity than something I’m sure I’ll love.... I’ve been living the space life in Elite Dangerous, and want to fly in some other universes, too. Maybe.

My wife recently got a Steam Account. Got to sit with her and try to find something for the person who mostly enjoys Mario and Animal Crossing, with a side helping of Diablo.
