Recovered from a GWJ Coma

As one could imagine, one's emergence from a prolonged coma would create an appreciable amount of confusion. Disorientation, failure to recognize old friends and family, a lack of understanding to social and technical norms, simple bewilderment at a world lost to the sense yet returned.

I have emerged from a said GWJ coma. Work & Life have distracted me in such a way that I have literally lost track of everything and everyone except Crawling Chaos and Pigpen.

So .... What's going on?

Welcome back.

A...a lot. A lot has gone on. Where to start!?
Welcome back

Mostly the Mass Effect thread. Mostly.

Anyone have "The old ones return" for their 2020 bingo?

except Crawling Chaos and Pigpen.

Who?
;P

Hey, CEJ. I don't think we interacted much when you were active, but I do recognize your handle. Welcome back!

Welcome back. :)

Ok. That's simply just awesome. Nicely done.

Somewhat ominous. Can we start somewhere around the 2014 time frame and work our way forward?

Crap. Never finished it. Do I need full memory recall on ME to be able to participate?

More like the walking brain dead but that's what I get for changing jobs three times in four years. Tends to be a bit debilitating.

Crawling Chaos and I hosted the West Coast Gaming Night. Really and excuse to try and finish L4D and L4D2 on expert. We never did knock that out.

Pigpen is still slumming it out in WoW but can be beguiled into playing titles from this decade for a few days before Blizzard notices his absence and sends the "retrieval squad".

Thanks Malor!

Hi CEJ, good to see you again! Next time you play with Pigpen, tell him Hi from me.

Some might not know that Pigpen and I are from the same home town and graduated high school together many moons ago. He brought me here. We all had great fun in the WoW guild back in the day.

I always love it when people pop up and say hello like this.

I can picture the line of people volunteering to shepherd you the rest of the way through forming right now.

Random highlights
Amoebic runs The Show now and is doing pretty awesome. Eleima does an annual community game of the year thread event that is amazing. Eleima and a few others stream on Twitch regularly. LobsterMobster passed away. We have probably lost other members that I can't think of. Several baby GWJers have arrived (including mine and Pyroman's). The Unmarked might be the greatest ever recorded tabletop RPG series (now called Story Roost). Just thinking about the ending gets me tear-y.

Hey Rat and SillyRabbit. Silly, I will let him (Pigpen) know. Just saw him this last weekend.

Whoa. What happened to the Sean/Shawn's?

Side Note: Awesome that Amoebic stepped up to keep things alive. Thank you!

I seem to remember a game of the year thread or two at the end of things.

Whoa x2. What happened to Lobster? (sigh) I don't like this part.

OK. This is a lot better on the new department. Grats!! My two rug rats moved out. One graduated from UT Knoxville and moved back home. My youngest is playing soccer for his school in Denver, CO.

Reading between the lines here but a video series on YouTube or something else? What the hell is a Twitch?

My desperate attempts at humor can kill threads, so that's the same.

Short answer is that Certis decided to more intensely study Buddhism and has entered a monastery study thing. He has limited access to computers/internet right now. We all still love him and miss him very much. Amoebic is now our glorious leader. The hero we need, certainly not the one we deserve. Elysium just rides her coat-tails and occasionally talks about EU4 until someone cuts him off. Not sure what the mod team looks like right now.

90% sure it was cancer. F*ck cancer. I named a DCSS tournament team in his honor that year: Better, Stronger, Harder, LobsterMobster. RatBoy briefly returned from his GWJ Coma, but haven't seen him in a while.

Story Roost is a podcast of several series of recorded tabletop RPG sessions with various GWJ members. I think there are 4 series, with different players and GMs. They are all good in different ways, but The Unmarked is, IMHO, one of the greatest recorded RPG series ever made.
Twitch is a web site and app that is a streaming service platform generally aimed at gamers. Basically you watch other people play games and chat with them and other fans in real-time. Recently other things besides video games have ended up on Twitch, like watching people do live RPGs, or make music, or crafts or host talk shows, or whatever.

Also, there's a couple of doctor's on the site with Thrawn avatars now. Go make friends!

Certis and Brennil split up. Which really isn't any of our business to dwell on other than I would consider it something significant that happened to one of our founders. (in the vein of catching up)

I guess the point is that looking at the threads suggested here will clue you in to the biggest ways GWJ has grown over those years. But it is still GWJ and its welcoming and comfortable old self.

Nice. It's good to be back.

Did they tell you about the finger-> butt reinitiation? ;P

Not yet. They may be concerned that I'll bolt again.

Hey from one old timer to another, welcome back. And Gibbs slap Pigpen for me, lol. I'm still as surly as ever so that hasn't changed....

GWJ mods were overthrown in a bloody coup. We're now in what people call "The Terror".

Love you, Amoebic!

Consider that done. Happy to help!!

This sounds like the start of a screen play to me. Change my mind.

Just caught this thread. Funny thing, I almost messaged you on steam last night about resurrecting West Coast Gaming Night Wednesdays.

I think I am misusing this meme but it still somehow feels right.

Yes, brain cancer. Miss him a ton. There's a thread around here somewhere if you want to search. ME3 co-op was never the same without him.

Rat Boy also did a 3-4(?) year disappearing act, but he's alive, and came back to harass everyone in the NFL threads mostly.

I had a kid. And a 2nd one on the way this fall.

I am now old, married, and have two kids. Welcome back!

It's fun how many of us have been around for so long. I tend to lurk more than anything these days.

Rat Boy literally posted on this page. Sheesh.

And while I didn't want to bring the mood down on an "I'm back!" thread, there's a solemn GWJ Memorial thread that Certis created a few years back.

sh*t, that thread. Forgot about Dr Awkward for a minute. Seemed like we were just playing Rocket League a few months ago but it's been 2.5 years.

I felt a great disturbance in the Goodjerverse. It led me here.

Oddly enough, I still lurk the site and comment now and again. I'll have you know that I was there at GWJ Los Angeles/E3 when pillow-gate happened. We did that E3 Slap n Tickle at the Cat n Fiddle on Sunset. What a night!

I'm OG 2004 via Joint Operations, if anyone remembers those days. And then SWAT4... L4D2. What else did we get into?

If you say "West Coast Gaming Night" into a mirror at midnight, it is said that I appear. I am ALL-IN on resurrecting WCGN when are we doing this and what are we playing? The Steam group still exists. It's go time.

Welcome back, CEJ. I missed you, brother.

Yup, LFD2/1 and the Battlefield series.
