Just in case anyone cares. I'm sure by now many of you know last night's game featured the exact same score as the Bama - A&M game, which was played at Bama, with a healthy Jalen Waddle, Devonta Smith, and Landon Dickerson.

...and that's all I have to say about that.

That's a cute comeback, but the point is that the media raked us over the coals all year for that loss, and it was the only reason we didn't make the playoffs. LEETLE bit ironic (okay, possibly cosmically ironic) that last night's game went that way and featured the exact same score. You got that, though, didn't you?

I know there's some sarcasm joking in your point but that and

I think it should be Cal and Oregon State.. we are both1-0 against P5 Conference Champions. If we only had to pick 1, I suppose it has to be Oregon State since Cal lost to them (we shouldn't have but oh well). It was a quality loss but it would be hypocritical of me to think that is more important than actually beating the conference champion.

EDIT: Oh, well looking more carefully, as Washington was supposed to represent the Pac-12 North in the championship game but due to Covid wasn't able to play, so they slid Oregon in. Oregon State therefore is 1-1 against P5 Champions OR P5 "potential" Championship participants. Cal's game against UW was cancelled therefore we are 1-0 and have the better winning % against P5 Champions PLUS Potential P5 Champions.

That settles it, Cal should be in.

sound exactly the same to anyone not from the SEC or Cal.

I sincerely have no idea what you mean, but it's probably not profitable to discuss any further.

Cal 1-3 #73 in CBS top 127

Only 1-win team in top 80

Imagine if one of those losses were to Alabama. We'd probably be a playoff bubble team.

Damn, Carl, you've managed to stay drunk for an exceptionally prolonged period of time! Remember, see your doctor if this lasts more than three hours.

Tennessee has fired Pruitt. There were some investigations going on, and obviously the team took a big step back after the long win streak last year.

Just last week they hired Kevin Steele who was out at Auburn with Malzahn. Auburn will still be paying him a lot of his salary, so I think UT set themselves up to have a cheap interim if they can't find somebody immediately.

I knew UT was the punchline when I saw this in my subscription feed:

(Basketball school?)

On this day, January 20, 2021 a horrible leader who nearly destroyed the very thing he was expected to protect was finally cast aside.

Larry Scott has been removed as PAC 12 commissioner.

Amongst Larry Scott's accomplishments:

1. Being the highest paid commissioner amongst all the conferences, including 2x that of the SEC. I get San Francisco is a lot more expensive than Birmingham, but sorry, this is ridiculous.

2. Gave himself a $2M bonus right before he furloghed 50% of the conference employees

3. Overvalued the Pac-12 so much that he thought he could build his own network rather than license it out to ESPN or someone else. Even better, he put that studio in San Francisco, most expensive city in the country.

4. To this date, Pac-12 network still does not have a contract with Direct TV.

Lets forget about all the on field messes like the Pac-12's freefall in prominence, this years championship game mess, the Gustin Porter targeting over turn on Gardner Minshes...

This guy basically took what was at least a competitive conference into a conversation on whether the P5 should turn into the P4.

Tennessee just hired Danny White, UCF's Athletic Director.

So we have a National Championship winning football AD

Actually this seems like an un-UT like smart hire. He's done very well at one of those schools that's success puts them at the border of the Power 5 world with no path into that next level. So it's potentially a good thing for both parties. Let's see what he does for the football coach hire.

(I didn't realize his brother is UF's basketball coach.)

I'm actually legit worried that you guys will make a smart move and hire Lance Leipold. White hired him previously and Leipold has won everywhere he's gone and just the right age to not bolt to anywhere better if he does well, and instead could give the Vols a decade plus of stability.

Will see if the boosters let White hire who he wants or if you end up with Hugh Freeze and y'all go through this whole thing again in 3-4 years.

If you watched the Monday press conference with all the emphasis on integrity by the administration, there is NO way they hire Freeze. And he's a fan favorite, and could probably win some games here. One of the reporters asked the UT System President specifically about Freeze in a later discussion, and he just repeated the line back about integrity. And I don't think the SEC would allow UT to hire Freeze nor would I think it help in the negotiation with the NCAA about what the penalties will be for all the nefarious activities that happened under Pruitt.

I've actually seen some lists that include Lance Leipold in the top 5, but who knows what will actually happen. In my reading and listening around to various Vol media prior to today, Danny White wasn't even in the possibility lists. So any lists that are out there probably haven't been sourced anywhere, and are pure media speculation.

So who knows.

Here's the carousel at Dollywood:

I googled "Danny White" because I thought he might be the former Dallas Cowboys QB. He's not.

In addition to his brother being Florida's head hoops coach, his dad is the AD at Duke and just announced that he will retire this summer, presumably so he doesn't have to be the one to push Krzyzewski into the old coach's home.

His brother is the AD at Florida Atlantic (Kiffin ties), and his sister is an assistant AD at SMU. So seemingly the whole family is in the biz.

Looks like Fed and Legion's favorite Tim DeRuyter is now headed to Oregon to be their Defensive coordinator. Despite his lack of success as Fresno State, he turned around the Cal defense and was a big reason for our improvement under Wilcox. Not surprising at all given Cal is one of the worst paying gigs for college football, particularly for coordinators, in one of the most expensive places in the country. His $400K salary is very low for a P5 college football salary, and even putting that aside, its really just in the "Upper Middle Class" range here as far as overall Bay Area economics goes, so whatever raise Nike U and the cost of living change in Eugene is like winning the lottery.
