Multiple sites reporting there will be only two preseason games.

Cute that they still think there will be any at all.

If soccer is being played in Europe as we speak then you know damn well the NFL is gonna play games this year.

I believe the NFL will play games this year. But the season? No way. Unless at some point soon there’s a vaccine for VIP’s.

Europe squashed the virus. Italy and Spain are in the hundreds of new cases a day.

Maybe if the leagues wanted to start so bad they should have been hammering us to wear masks and social distance. Instead, they are run by the same shortsighted businessmen that decided the key was just forcing the president to open up and that would make the customers show up.

And what it looks like to me is that as they get closer and closer, we are going to see more and more players drop out.

Oh I still believe the NFL will play. I'm talking about preseason games though. I don't think any games that don't count are going to be played.

My expectation at this point remains a strike-like shortened season.

Gotcha, I did read too much into that.

Oh I think we'll have preseason "games" that will involve the NFL and TV finding ways to try and make this work without crowds. Cutting out a couple preseason games was always going to happen.

I'm pretty sure the NFL started the pandemic as a way to acclimate the public to a shortened preseason, setting us up for the 17 game season, which then primes us for the 18 game season in 2025. They're playing the long con!

How many yards will a team be penalized if there's potential COVID-19 spread on the field? Ten yards? Fifteen?

Washington to conduct "thorough review" of team's name. I don't expect a change, but if there is a change, it'll be a Native American reference that while not an outright racial slur will still be insensitive and goofy.

I think it'll happen this time because money is backing it. Before it was just pressure from people, not money.

And money talks in America...

Now to get Mahomes to push for KC to change to the Monarchs...

Also, there is one way Snyder can keep the name.

Boise Redskins sounds good!

I was going to suggest that they move the team to Pocatello.

Washington Braves, then?

Call them the Nationals and leach off an actual successful team.

That's the original name of the franchise. Well, "Boston Braves" because they weren't in DC yet.

Naming a sports franchise after an indigenous people that colonizers worked to systematically destroy isn't exactly great taste even if you couch it in positive terms ex: Braves.

Washington Sentinals! We want Shane Falco (though I guess Joe Flacco is close enough if they trade for him)

Well, the XFL isn’t using it.

And that didn't take long: NFLPA voted to eliminate all 2020 preseason games.

Granted, the players' union isn't the one with the power to make that decision, but I don't think this is a fight the league is going to take. And I imagine it will be moot anyway, as I expect that line to end up moving well into the season schedule.

Three Washington minority owners look to sell stakes. Dan Snyder's probably fixated on an even more racist nickname.

Why do I envision some kind of whack ass South Park "solution" like putting a smile on the Indian's face?

I thought the general consensus is he will just provide 'evidence' that native americans don't mind the name and ignore the issue, like he has many times before?

The issue is different because this moment is having a strong effect, and companies will just flat out stop being associated with anything so problematic. FedEx owns the naming rights to the stadium, and are pushing Snyder to change the name. Other advertisers are beginning to join in the pressure. Nike has pulled Washington merchandise from its stores.

Investors in these companies are the ones making the demands. I don't think we are far from advertisers demanding that their ads not be shown for Washington games.

I think this gets done. I wish KC would do something about their issues. I don't think the name is racist, but the Chop sure as hell is. The Chiefs stopped playing the Chop music at one point, but has since started it back up again.

I mean, we are in a new world now. The crap that goes on at every home game will look a million times worse than before. Hunt can decide to deal with it then, or be proactive. I just think the Monarchs name would be a perfect option because it retains the tradition of royalty names for sports teams, and it is the name of the former KC Negro League team. Is Kansas City woke? No. But, they absolutely love Buck O'Neil, and KC is the home of a fantastic Negro League museum.

Granted, it leans heavy into baseball, but it is relevant for the time, fits the tradition, honors a local sports hero, and the their colors were Red and White, so you could easily keep color schemes while being traditional.

And I'm dreaming, because this won't happen.

Yeah, the Chiefs, Indians and Braves ain't going nowhere, but the Redskins might just be so excruciatingly obvious, it gets changed.

I'd still put $20 on them changing the name, but leaving the logo and iconography though.

Clevenland Indians to Consider Name Change.
