NFL 2020: Draft

Never been more proud to be a Browns fan

I thought NASCAR ditching the Confederate flag and the Red Sox admitting that they have racist fans were the most unbelievable sports revelations of 2020.

GWJ favorite QB Christian Hackenberg now wants to play baseball.

Here’s the good news about Christian Hackenberg’s attempt to make it to the majors as a pitcher: He’s already played in as many major-league baseball games as NFL games.

He did say "more" proud, so, you know, as a Browns fan, you're probably grading on a curve anyways.

Just want Hackenberg needs, a sports position that requires being even *more* precise with where he has to throw a ball.

At least when Tebow moved to baseball, he was smart enough to let them stick his ass in left field.

Nah, in the minors you can get a few paychecks if you throw hard enough.

This is what I was going to say. Only way Tebow even comes close to the majors is as a marketing stunt. Relief pitchers just need to throw hard to get a serious look. He only needs to do one thing instead of the multiple Tebow is attempting.

He does know professional baseball's on the verge of imploding, right?

Considering his football career already imploded I think he'll take his chances.

They're gonna need bigger nets behind the plate.

It looks like the rumor mill is overheating with stories about how AB is getting ready to sign with the Ravens now.

Ugh, longtime coming, rumor-wise. I sure hope not.

This is giving me Mitch Williams flashbacks.

Rick Ankiel.

Hoo boy:

Multiple Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys football players, including Pro Bowl running back Ezekiel Elliott, have recently tested positive for COVID-19, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday.

None of the players are believed to have been in their team facilities and the Cowboys and Texans teams followed proper health protocols, Rapoport added.

Elliott's agent told Rapoport that the Dallas standout is "feeling good." The team, however, issued a statement that it could not provide information.

"Due to federal and local privacy laws, we are unable to provide information regarding the personal health of any of our employees," the Cowboys said in a statement obtained by Rapoport.

Players testing positive is a development that was predicted by Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL's chief medical officer.

"We fully expect we will have positive cases that will arise," Sills said in May.

This is exactly why I have never believed, for one second, that any major sports will play games in 2020. And I think 2021 is a long shot.

If we continue the path we are on, the virus will be too present to get an entire league through a season without multiple teams dropping out in-season. And because we acted like we could force the economy open, unemployment and poverty will be so much more widespread by next year that even if we are healthy, disposable income will make it hard for a league to generate revenue.

We have basically come up with the worst possible solution to the pandemic. Social distancing just enough to half-ass open, and live with 100’s of new cases every day in most states. That is too much for concerts and spirting events, and will cause most consumers to hoard resources.

If you were a betting person, which country will have stadiums with people in the next year, and economies beginning to grow? Because our crappy response is what is killing sports, not the lockdowns.

Sports, like they did to get us to take the virus serious in the first place, will lead us back. But I have no idea how anyone thinks we are close at all. You want thousands of athletes and staff quarantining together and expect there not to be a massive outbreak?

And I still think expecting millionaires that already have all the money they need, agreeing to quarantine away from family and friends to play in front of fans that also think they need to make less, not more, for the risk and inconvenience.

Pro sports has not even scraped the skin off of reality yet.

I also don't think there will be a single game this year, but the illusion that it's going to happen will continue until the first star player winds up in an ICU, being kept alive on a ventilator. That'll be the death of that particular fantasy.

If y'all need a sports fix, the five New Zealand Super Rugby rugby union teams started play in a modified tournament this weekend. Games are on ESPN+ and some, ah, other websites.

It was great to see live sports. It was weird to see crowds of people, all sitting side by side and none wearing masks. Of course, NZ completely locked down in March, had about as many cases total as North Carolina sees in one day and hasn't had a Covid case in about two or three weeks.

I've been watching rugby for about three years now and am just starting to get the hang of the rules. I think I know how European NFL fans feel.

P.S. I agree with the two posters above: I'd be stunned if there are any NFL games in 2020. College FB players have started to head back to campus, and they're bringing the 'rona with them. Half-ass measures yield half-ass results. (I'm rounding up by about half an ass when I call the US response "half-ass.")

49ers are extending Kyle Shanahan with a 6-year deal, which replaces the final 3 years on his current 6-year deal. A move I am 100% in favor of. The Niners were clearly well coached even when they were 10-22 in Baby Shanny's first two years.

Except for when they had big leads in playoff games...

I agree, the mixed messaging and politicizing of the issue resulted in a milquetoast response from certain people and areas. Some places did better (New York, Ohio) while others seemingly ignored everything and are now on the wrong path. Looking at the US as some monolithic structure is not giving the correct picture.

Sports will absolutely reopen. There's entirely too much money tied up into it and we all know what's most important to the United States... Ad revenues and other sales will be down, but not bottomed out. The league's don't care enough for their players to sit them all for a season. There's always folks to replace those who don't want to play, plenty of scabs who aren't millionaires and more than willing to collect a paycheck and risk getting sick.

Whether or not there are fans in the stadium is a whole different question.

There will be football.

Who knows who is actually playing and the quality.

The NFL is not the NBA where Kyrie Irving can try to create a coalition of players who don't want to come back.

Is it right is a whole other debate.

Don't get me started on Kyrie Irving.

Until he admits the earth is a sphere his opinion on everything else is invalid.

Tell the Packers that.

Shanny will figure out the Super Bowl. I remember a guy named Andy Reid who used to get the same criticism for losing the big game.

Giants placekicker Aldrick Rosas getting in on the offseason crime drama, as he was arrested for hit and run and driving on a suspended license in California.

Injury bug begins in lockdown: Eagles guard Brandon Brooks tore his ACL and will miss the season.

This is my exact thought when I heard players were actually listening to him, haha.

If he doesn't want to play in the NBA, maybe he should Globetrotters instead.
