Welcome folks, and happy “nearly the 45th anniversary of my personal favourite episode of The Goodies” week! If you haven’t seen The Goodies before, take a little good advice and check it out. It’s like a live-action cartoon. If Monty Python are The Beatles of comedy, then The Goodies are The Bee Gees. I recommend Bunfight at the O.K. Tea Rooms or, of course, Ecky-Thump.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Journey to the Savage Planet. It’s a mid-sized metroidvania that fosters a sense of exploration and experimentation without overwhelming you with collectibles and backtracking. The new Hot Garbage DLC is a tasty extra helping, giving you a new planet, and new gear to explore it with—underwater boots, anyone? There’s also a rival corporation at this planet, which means you gain an antagonist, a trash-talkin’ robot that will presumably taunt you until you smash it. GOTW.

Freakout: Calamity TV Show is a twin-stick shooter with a very Running Man aesthetic, set to a bangin’ techno soundtrack. It’s clearly trying to be a spiritual successor to Smash TV, but does it go the distance?

Space construction sandbox, Space Engineers, comes out on the Xbox this week. Welding stuff together in zero-g has never been so strangely satisfying.

The new kid on the block of roller-coaster sims, Theme Park Simulator, comes to the Switch and features touch screen controls to calibrate your rides… wait, the Switch has a touch screen? And you can use it for Civ VI?

Man, it's already out on Steam with only a handful of reviews and the vast majority of those received the game for free. Screenshots look nice, but I get the feeling this is otherwise someone's first game. Oh well, love me some SmashTV but I'd rather play a tight twin stick shooter than a sloppy one with SmashTV graphics and sound and the latter tends to be what we see.

The Goodies? Can't say I ever heard of em. Really dating yourself, eh?

wait, the Switch has a touch screen? And you can use it for Civ VI?

This was a beautiful exit.

RIP Tim Brooke-Taylor (who was in the Goodies, for those people wondering who I was referring to).

Picked up Freakout on the XBone, used a gift card and about 75 cents to get it. It's not bad, but their are rough parts of it. I got into a room where the only way to proceed was to run into some spinning blades and start over. The arena rooms with rising and missing blocks are interesting but you could get disoriented and forget where a wall is and get cornered. Also you can get disoriented and fall off the side.
