Final Fantasy VII REMAKE Catch All

There's a "secret" ending to the demo if you set the bomb to 20 min instead of 30.

Oh, that was a "secret ending"? I thought it was randomized or something.

I didn't know it was secret; the the three times I played through the demo I always chose 20 minutes. Read about it later, though. I only played it three times for two reasons: One was the weird bug that would let me use items the first time around (an uninstall and reinstall fixed that). The other was that some of the mislabeled demo impressions talked about scenes that I didn't see at all in there... until after three full playthroughs, I realized that the Demo they was giving impressions of was a press demo with more content than what we, the public at large, received.

I haven’t been paying close attention to the game scene, especially the PS4, for 18 months or so. Do PS4 games preload as soon as you preorder? Is there a certain time preloads unlock? If so, can someone post here when this preload is available?

The preload should be available today (4/2) or tomorrow (4/3). It was set for the 7th, but Square-Enix apparently bumped that up.

My copy is preloading now.

My physical copy has been dispatched! Skipping the final trailer as I've seen more than enough. Can't wait!

One last trailer is up. It shows a LOT. FYI, for spoilers.

Looks so exciting.

And I learned around 1 minute mark that Cloud shaves his pits so hey it was a valuable trailer.

So exciting he posted it twice!

So, I recently came in contact with some rumors this morning supposedly based on leaks of the game. From the sounds of it, this is going to be less "George Lucas" and more "Evangelion Rebuilds".

I was gonna make a mention of it but discuss it no further, but watching that trailer, I'm getting the feeling that's not too far off.

And if that comparison means nothing to you then, well... Here's my explanation, but it will cover what may or may not be spoilers for FFVII Remake, don't know, can't confirm until the game is out:

Spoiler:

The Evangelion Rebuilds are currently three-out-of-four movies "remaking" Neon Genesis Evangelion. The first film is almost a perfect recreation of the first chunk of episodes of the show, but with minor differences. The numbering of the Angels is off, and the ocean begins drenched in red, just as it was at the conclusion of the original End of Evangelion film. The second film starts to deviate slightly, only when Rei in the original series killed herself, Shinji instead tries to save her and inadvertently causes Third Impact. It is at this point that people were theorizing that the Evangelion Rebuilds are technically taking place after the original series, with Shinji wishing to turn back time and so on. There's no confirmation on this, as all the third film did was take things way outside of the realm the original series went, pushing us into all new territory.

I have additional theories of directorial intent myself, but it's that theory of a new timeline following the original that Final Fantasy VII Remake might be following.

Just one more week until I find out, at least.

Preload is up.

I'm jealous of all you people. I have a temporary PS4 so I could play FFVII Remake but there's no information on how they'll handle saves between games. I'd rather wait until it's out on the PC where I can control the saves.

Well, my order is from Amazon and it's still showing as shipping on April 9... now, when will it arrive? I live in Central America and Easter is a pretty slow time of the year business-wise. Add to that the country's current lockdown for COVID-19 and I may very well be getting my mitts of the game by the latter end of the month. Not complaining too much, since I have plenty to play and I'd rather be alive and healthy with the game to look forward to, but I will have to make one hell of an effort to avoid spoilers and the like online. At least I won't be hearing anyone at work talking about it "around the water cooler".

Received my copy in the post this morning from The Game Collection (UK), kudos to them for getting me the game out 4 days early. I'll be playing a good chunk tonight.

The reviews have hit & they seem universally very good - excellent.

Gamespot - 10/10

Spoiler:

"Regardless of your history with the original game, Final Fantasy VII Remake is an astounding achievement. The wait for its release was a long one, but in gameplay, story, characters, and music, it delivers--the wait was worth it. For first-time players, it's an opportunity to understand why Final Fantasy VII is held in such high regard. It's the chance to experience a multifaceted story that grapples with complex subject matter, be in the company of memorable characters, and be moved by their plight. For returning fans, this isn't the Final Fantasy VII your mind remembers, it's the one your heart always knew it to be."

Easy Allies - 90/100

Spoiler:

"Final Fantasy VII is an ambitious retelling that updates its systems and story for the modern era. The new battle system is fantastic and does a superb job of blending strategy and action. Additional stories and character moments are appreciated, and the way each character is portrayed is perfect. Some technical aspects could be better, but if future installments maintain this trajectory, we can all rest easy."

IGN - 8/10

Spoiler:

"The expectations around Final Fantasy 7 Remake are sky high, and it mostly manages to deliver. Its combat is top notch, its enemy variety kept me constantly entertained, and seeing this snippet of story fleshed out with real emotional arcs and the previously hidden humanity behind Midgar filled me with pure joy. The boring RPG filler and Kingdom Hearts-esque convolution that was inserted in between did stop my ear-to-ear grin from being constant, but never long enough to kill the mood completely. That leaves this remake as one that still delivered on letting me relive (part of) a classic in stupendous fashion, while also standing as a great RPG all its own."

Push Square - 8/10

Spoiler:

"Measured against the immense expectations that surround it, Final Fantasy VII Remake is a great game that will inevitably disappoint some fans. That said, playing through the Midgar storyline 23 years later is giddily surreal, and the game does a fantastic job of expanding the existing plot, while also pushing a surprising amount of fresh ideas. Some frustratingly poor level design hampers the fun at times, and visually the game is all over the place, but when it's at its best, Remake is brilliant, and it's elevated to even greater heights by an excellent combat system. It may not be the perfect remake that we've all been dreaming of these past five years, but it is a thoroughly enjoyable, nostalgia-driven ride that understands the magic of Final Fantasy VII."

ACG review

I am officially putting my blinders on and ignoring all FF7R content on the internet until further notice.

Same here... i will be my own judge

Guess I'll tag in to hear thoughts but don't think I'll be playing for a while.

Why are you waiting?

Chimalli wrote:

Episode 1.

Maybe when more/all of the game is out?

Maybe on PC. Haven't really decided.

I'm with you Stele. I'm guessing this will be such a weird multi-episode release and they'll do a giant super release of everything at once later on.

It took them 5 years to make part 1 out of ?. Also, considering it only covers the first 10% of the original game and the director spent the last decade creating kingdom hearts... I'm going to guess this won't be done until the PS6... But, waiting a year for the PC release is pretty good idea. Although, I did hear

Spoiler:

that the ending is pretty controversial

(not really a spoiler, but for those of you on black out, it is kinda sorta about the ending)

I can see the logic but this is apparently a thirty hour game. I don’t want to play 120 hours all at once in 2035 while planning for my daughter’s college tuition.

They've actually upped that to 50-60. At least, Square Enix did, but that could just be for completionist runs.

Kotaku review says 40, USgamer says 30. I haven’t read the whole reviews, but Kotaku gets to what I was saying upthread with this:

“Final Fantasy VII Remake...is a brand new video game wearing Final Fantasy VII’s skin. This remake is still a third-person role-playing game that blends fantasy with cyberpunk. It stars the same characters and explores the same events as the seventh and most popular mainline Final Fantasy, which was released in 1997. Yet this game is also an entirely different creature. For the bulk of its run time, Final Fantasy VII Remake is a glorious retelling of Final Fantasy VII’s story. It expands, tweaks, and fleshes out parts of the game that we’d previously never seen.”

Pretty exciting IMO.

I cant wait to play it!!!!

Amazon seems unsure when they'll be getting my copy to me.

Yeah they told me that too. A buddy had a similar thing happen with another game and he got it two weeks late. So I just went digital.

Same. Amazon deliveries just seem too unreliable right now, so digital it is.
