Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I'm so furious.

Had my gate open for a friend. 2 other people joined. One name I didn't recognize, but assumed it was a goodjer.

I clearly have fences around my rocks at the corners, so that I can hit them 8 times. I crafted and spent time doing this. I destroyed one rock that was in a different place and got 2 rocks within sight of each other, which I f*cking loved for my daily gathering tasks.

THEY BROKE BOTH OF MY ROCKS.

How the f*ck does Nintendo even let this happen? If someone isn't "best friend" they shouldn't be able to pull out a shovel on your island?

I'm ready to never open my gate again. Rocks are random placed, there's no way in hell I get them anywhere as good a spot. And no way to undo it.

Yikes, sorry that happened. You are not supposed to be able pull out your shovel unless you are best friends. Glitch?

That sounds like a crappy glitch. Do you need any stuff that rocks drop for your active missions?

I have been using the dodo code so I can control who is invited.

Hmm if it's best friends only then that means my real life friend is an idiot and somehow broke my rocks. Gah.

I had 4 visitors but he was the only one I upgraded to BF during the visit.

I've been using the BF setting for most of y'all since it's the only way to send in game or in app invites. Maybe I should be more cautious.

Sorry that sucks. I was under the impression that only best friends can use tools too.

Yesterday I was slightly annoyed since someone that I didn't recognize came in and jumped across the river without saying anything. I didn't have a pole yet so I couldn't see what they were doing and they left a note on the bulletin board saying thanks for the fruit. I'm totally fine with giving people fruit but ask first please..

Alright, so I actually got my gate open to my friends list now. Yukihama is accepting visitors! I left some pears out by my plaza, you are welcome to take some if you need them.

Just been enjoying having a game to poke around in without any stress about needing to accomplish something. Wish I was better/more creative with the custom designs.

Same today with the person I didn't recognize. They were like oh I got oranges. Then they were all yeah pears! And I was like whoa please just take 3.

I have a field of 8 or 10 orange trees right by the airport. It's very obvious what I'm exporting here.

Then my actual friend apparently picked 20+ oranges. My island is ravaged. Nothing left for me to do but advance days.

The throwaway random nook miles islands are where you go wild on resources. Not your friend's carefully crafted home. Damn.

Neighbor just ran up to me and taught me reactions!

So cool. 4 to start, and the one neighbor said the others should teach me some too.

Nice! I was just chatting with Slytin earlier when they visited that I wished there was some emote system. The chat system is extremely cumbersome with just the on-screen keyboard...

I've been using the Nintendo Online app for chat. You can do voice, but it's also nice for just typing. Using your phone keyboard.

I also have my old Wii branded Logitech USB Wireless keyboard moved to the Switch now. We used it for the Wii version to write letters to villagers and each other. Now doing the same. Could use it for chat as well but the phone is right there. I am tending to stick with the keyboard for only letters.

There is some rudimentary AI in the game. Not that they respond to actual letters, except for thanking you for gifts attached. But you do have to write actual words with punctuation or they will think it's gibberish and not reply. Plus animals like to show off letters from you, either to other humans in game or even take them to other towns sometimes when they move. So best not to sound like an idiot.

FYI if you can't play online that's another option for fruit usually. Send native fruit in letters to your neighbors and they might send you other fruit. At least it used to be. Not sure if works in New Horizons, but either way they send you stuff. 100-bell fruit is cheaper than most things you will get in return.

Anyone figured out how your neighbour's tents upgrade to houses? Both mine have but a couple friends haven't had theirs do it yet.

I haven't played a lot overall, just a little each day, but I did get Nook to upgrade my house from the tent and it was ready yesterday. Then this afternoon I log in for a bit and both neighbors had upgraded their tents to houses. I'm thinking that either it's a set number of played days, or the neighbors start upgrading right after you do.

Today I managed to get the 5000 nook miles for the pockets expansion. Yay!! I also took the idea that someone had here of crafting and carrying around the workbench, so I'm really liking being able to craft on the go whenever one of my flimsy tools breaks.

Choosing the map vaguely reminded me of choosing the SNES SimCity map

Absolutely loving the game so far.

I was able to visit Tuffalo's & Nimcosi's islands today. Shared some fruit and they shared some with me as well.

I don't know why anyone would either destroy something on an island they're visiting or strip the fruit trees or any other resources; if it's not your island, show some manners!

Day 5 just beginning and my museum and shop are open, and I just got the recipe for a bridge. Finally getting some rocks back too after a friend accidentally smashed mine in the first couple days.

Don't forget to post sale prices for turnips so we can all make big $$$.

Schools aren't closed in Australia yet so I've got a kid free day of bug collecting and fishing ahead of me.

Is there any reason to have regular trees rather than all/mostly fruit trees?

There's still a random item that falls from trees every day. And some 100 bell coins too. I'm not sure on the counts. But those also fall from pine trees too.

In the old games I'd go like 80-90% fruit and a couple rows of pine at the top. Makes it easier to get drops every day that you play.

I thought they had fixed it with the non-fruit trees giving wood, soft, and hard crafting materials. But the fruit trees give those too. So as long as nothing changed on the free item every day, no non-fruit non-pine trees needed.

Thanks. Let the trees shake with fear. I am the lumberjack.

My wife and I scoured the island looking for our new rock. While we did it we shook every starting pine on the upper levels.

We found one piece of furniture and at least 5 trees dropped 100 bells each. Maybe 6 or 7, we lost count.

My fruit trees look like the regular trees. Is there a way to tell the difference without digging them up?

I went to a Nook island tonight and found it full of bamboo instead of normal trees. I have not seen anything use bamboo yet though. I brought one full tree and several shoots back and planted them. Interested to see what happens.

Lucky you. I got a bamboo recipe from a bottle that needs 6 something I've never seen.

If you do the 2000 point Nook Miles trip 5 times or so, you should run into that particular island. I've done it 8-10 times and hit that island twice. Got a bunch of bamboo shoots to plant and lots of bamboo to store and sell off.

This morning I finally managed to get enough donations for Blathers the owl, and also enough nook miles to buy the Pretty Good Tools recipe! I still don't have enough iron for Nook and am out of generous rocks at the moment, so that little quest will likely continue tomorrow. I'm holding off on crafting anything that uses iron until I have enough for Nook.

I've also pulled up all the weeds in the parts of my island that are accessible. There are still areas up on cliffs that I can't get to with my current equipment, unless there is a vaulting pole technique that has eluded me, so I figure it will open up later after I've progressed.

I've gotten stung by wasps numerous times now and have stopped bothering with medicine until after I feel done shaking trees. Talked to my neighbors while running around with "wasp face" and one gave me some medicine and the other gave me a recipe for medicine!

I have started clearing room for my fruit orchard. Half of me want aesthetics and the other have wants maximum fruit production. I will try temporarily moving my grown orange trees tonight to see how it feels.

Ha! Going to have to do this next time.

I started running into Nook's tent to get away from the wasps, will have to let them sting me once and see what my villagers say.

Got the store and museum up today and now Nook wants me to build a bridge. Doesn't look too difficult so far.

I would be willing to give/sell you some bamboo if you wanted some Stele. Let me know and we can work something out.

I have one of both. By the airport I put 20 of my native Orange trees all bunched up for you people when you come visit. Hopefully that's enough oranges.

But over on the main empty part of my island I have some spacious alternating rows of everything else. And a row of coconuts all across my southern beaches.

Haven't decided if I'm going to do East/West beaches too or just leave it. I've done nothing with the pines yet.

You can catch wasps with your net. The best way is to have it out when shaking trees. Then you just turn and swipe immediately, the timing is easy when the scene of wasps gives you control again.

Thanks. I'll look up bamboo stuff and see about planting it, make sure I have a plan before taking any. Will let you know.

Good info on wasps and medicine! I checked in on my island this morning. All my new trees are starting to get there. The new shop showed up which is neat and the museum is now under construction! I'm having a blast with the game, and I like having to wait till the next day for stuff to progress. There's plenty to work on each day. This is day 3 for me. Got the 2nd tier house which is nice and roomy although I don't quite have the money to pay that one off just yet. Looking forward to playing a bunch this afternoon. Goal is to pay off that house improvement!

My Nintendo rewards has a neighbor birthday calendar PDF.

I'm a little sad, Hornsby bday was Mar 20. He moved in on that day for me I think so was unpacking and nothing triggered for it. What are the odds he'll still be living here in a year?

Plus there are nook miles for celebrating birthdays, would have been cool to get one already. My next upcoming current resident is Bertha, all the way on April 25.

Welp.

Item cloning glitch is out. And using 2 starting items, anybody can do it pretty easily. I won't post it here.

It's not like there's a shared economy. But if you see people who haven't time traveled and have millions of bells that's probably why.
