Animal Crossing: New Horizons

After you collect 5 fish or bugs for Tom Nook he has you setup the Museum tent. The day after Blathers’ tent goes up we get the shovel. So I’ve heard from my uncle at Nintendo.

Nah, not dumb, just repetitive. I just answered it 5 posts above yours for someone else.

I created an island with my kids yesterday. We have Oranges on IsleOfView, if anyone needs them.

I saw presents flying around attached to balloons yesterday. My assumption is you need the slingshot to pop the balloons and get those. Is the only way to get the slingshot from the store? What about the better tools, only from the Nook store? Trying to figure out what is worth purchasing and what can be obtained other ways.

I will open up my island of Yukihama and leave some Pears out, mom sent me Apples which I planted. Would love to see some other people and trade some fruit (Friend Code: SW-1474-7486-1313, also in the google doc Stele linked a few pages back).

Edit: Is there a way to sort your inventory easily? I could do it by putting everything in storage then taking them out in the order I want, but would rather have a way to easily organize my pockets...

So many weeds!

I spent the miles to get upgraded tools, and as part of it you get an axe and a stone axe. The difference seems to be that when you chop trees a third hit with the stone axe will get you a resource, while a third hit with the axe will cut it down and leave a stump.

In case someone missed it: fruit + shovel + tree allows you to dig one out and put it in your inventory to plant somewhere else.

The first day Timmy/Tommy inside the tent sell both the starter slingshot and the recipe for it. Best to buy the recipe so you can make your own, and make another when it breaks.

If you missed that second window of the store, there was an icon to press R to see the rest of the items.

Once you get the actual store built, those items are in the glass case display in the back.

I wish. You can sort your house closet in various ways. But pockets don't seem to have anything yet.

You can hold in A to grab items and manually move them around. Better than nothing, but tedious.

This is actually exactly what I was looking for. Not looking for heavy management, just wanted to be able to order my tools and such.

Wow the first 3 neighbor quest is insane.

Mild spoilers and lessons learned:

Spoiler:

Nook gives you new recipes but you have to craft 6 things for each plot after you place them. Inventory is crazy.

I was trying to craft everything and run over there. But now I realize you could place a crafting table outside right beside each plot and not so so much running.

Definitely place each plot before trying to craft. I made one of everything he gave me but then the first plot also needed a beginning item I had. After that I realized I should go place plot 2 and 3 before crafting anything else. Best to get the exact list for each plot after they're placed.

I need to friend up some of you fine folks, what's the best method for that? Or has Nintendo actually modernized and made it so if I send a friend invite it'll be seen by the recipient without them having to punch in my ID first?

Yeah just add people from the spreadsheet in the OP or their signatures in this thread. They can accept request and you're good.

I haven’t gotten there yet, but I carry a crafting table with me and plop it down when I need to craft something and then pick it back up

Weird. Mine wasn’t there. Added.

Don’t know why I hadn’t thought of that ...

And here I was, being an idiot and just plopping my crafting table outside my house and leaving it there...

How do you get onto the spreadsheet? I've been here a bazillion years it seems and first time I've heard of it, probably because I almost never play multiplayer.

Okay, I added myself to the spreadsheet (bekkilyn, see the link in the OP, the more recent link I saw in this thread didn't work but the OP link did). People, friend me up if you want access to my cherries! I do wish there were a different system for managing Switch names...for whatever reason, I don't like the idea of not just appearing on my Switch as "James" but it is less than ideal for multiplayer stuff.

As someone who has enjoyed but ultimately bounced off of a couple of past Animal Crossing games, I am most pleased by a)the fact that many tedious UI things have been improved--e.g. items stacking automatically and b)the way the Nook Miles system gives lots of little prompts for things to do. I am also liking the way the multiplayer works, as I have let my 8 year old daughter create a character on my island and she is really getting into it. She has also stolen stuff out of my tent, which I was less enthusiastic about, but all part of the learning process I guess!

Added myself to the spreadsheet. Feel gree to friend me. I have oranges. Be warned my island is a mess right now.

Visited a couple more people tonight. Everyone's islands are in various stages of construction. Nothing really feels like a city yet. A whole different vibe than previous games.

Looking forward to growth.

Looks like visiting a friend then making them a best friend is the way to go. At that point you can directly see their online status, message them in game or in Nintendo online app, and generally have something like a real friend list.

Coordinating that first trip is the tough one. I've just randomly tried a couple times to see who has a gate open and been lucky to find a few of you. Hopefully tomorrow I'll try to get my gate open and have some of y'all over.

A quick tip that might help others like me who missed the obvious. There is a second page to the book’s kid shop. I talk to him any there would be 2 things for sale. I thought it was weird but assumed it was because they were still in the tent. Turns out you hit r and there’s tons more stuff

Is there anything special you need to do to open your gate, or is it just be online? Will have to see about visiting other people's islands with my large store of pears tomorrow. Oh, I also found coconuts on the Nook island, not sure if everyone gets that, if not I have those for trade as well.

I upgraded my flimsy axe to an axe but now my 3rd chop cuts trees down... Is this the trade off for having a durable axe you can only get 2 resources per tree now? Was I supposed to make the stone axe (or whatever didn't require iron) instead for resource harvesting?

Edit: Also ended up 8 nuggets shy of finishing the store today. Messed up some of my rock digging and didn't get full 8 strikes.

Gates to Dandelion are open, would really love if someone could visit and drop off some cherries, maybe some apples too.

I think my trees are empty of pears but I’ll have a big harvest tomorrow and most of the other fruits the day after.

What's up with the fruits btw? I've not seen one in my trees since I harvested them in the first day.

They take 3 days to regrow.

Yes stone axe is the one you want to keep harvesting resources from trees.

You could buy another Nook miles ticket and it'll take you to a different random island to get more nuggets.

Updated OP with the Online Guide since a lot of people keep asking how to visit.

If anything else is super helpful tips-wise, either post it here or PM me and I'll update.

Added myself to the spreadsheet. Sent a few friend requests. I have apples. Plenty on trees if you have a vaulting pole. Gonna figure out this online in a few minutes.

Gates to Bananaland are open for a few.

Anyone figured out how your neighbour's tents upgrade to houses? Both mine have but a couple friends haven't had theirs do it yet.

Not sure. My starting 2 did already. I pushed my own house, museum, and Nook's Cranny as early as possible, and they both had houses then already, day 3 or something.

I just got to some of the big crafting moments. I am glad I stocked up.
