I have opened my gates up for the night. Come for a visit and see my overgrown forest island!

I decided today to just plant fruit trees... everywhere. It's gonna be fun.

So I got that weird phone thing again tonight. I opened my gates and kept seeing the Best Friend app have "new" notifications, but every time I opened it, nothing had changed. Anyone else seen this strange behavior before?

I have added my switch code to my signature for easier retrieval, sorry about that!

Probably friend requests. That app has multiple tabs available by R and L buttons. Requests received, sent, BF list, regular friend list, etc.

Wisp 2 nights in a row. And tarantulas caught too.

This version seems much more active at night than previous games.

1.1.1 update is out. To no one's surprise, it fixes the duping glitch.

Do the hours for Nook's Cranny ever change? Or am I going to have to change my system clock so it'll actually be open since most of my playtime is after midnight?

The hours for Nook's Cranny won't change, but as you get the shop upgraded the hours will change a bit.

One of the games had an option for something like night owl/early bird that would change the times either direction.

I've been thinking about getting the game for a while, and ended up starting Stardew Valley instead.

For some reason (a recent Retronauts episode might be responsible), I bought the game this morning (along with a one year Online subscription), it's downloaded on my Switch, waiting for me to start playing it (which won't happen until I get off of work).

Now, I have all day to figure out how I'm going to call my island.

The polygon guide just confirms one more Nook store upgrade, but doesn't mention hours. It also sounds like a time based upgrade. But the previous games it was based on how much you spent plus a minimum amount of days between upgrades.

In the last 2 games it had 3 upgrades with various hours. The convenience store version was open until midnight, but the superstore after that was only open until 10 again, from what I remember.

In New Leaf you could pass ordinances to keep things open later. But honestly it's easier to just set your system clock 3 hours behind or something.

I'm a night owl too, always playing from 10-midnight or later so my clock is constantly behind.

Here's the New Leaf store wiki. It will give a general idea until we know facts about New Horizons.

Thanks, edison and Stele! Yeah, I might just change my clock for the time being and we'll see what happens. Before everything went into lockdown, I was getting home from work around 1am so this could be a long term solution too.

At least in this game we can still sell our stuff when the store is closed because of the drop-off box. That's a vast improvement.

Yes and placing things outside changes the game.

You can just stack expensive fish or bugs outside the store and sell them in the morning if you don't want to take the 20% hit.

True. And I did sell a bunch of Hot Items last night before logging off at 2. But had to wait till this morning to buy anything.

Son of a... Resident Services is closed, so I can't get Nook Miles tickets. How am I supposed to travel?

One time event. And they did warn you. Nook said to get anything you need.

It doesn't break your ABD access streak, so that's good.

Edit: Nook gives you a free ticket to celebrate the new building the next day too.

I’m having the hardest time catching the sturgeon and the stringfish. I know where to look for them, but I just keep pulling up loaches and black bass.

On the sturgeon, I caught two in the same spot on a specific Nook Miles Island. You might have a go at that since it also gives you an opportunity to resource gather. They hang right in the spot where the river meets the ocean (in the river). Also, their shadows are larger than the bass shadows. You can tell. I forget if there is a time of day issue with them. I don't have the game open currently to check.

Sturgeon supposed to be all day.

Stringfish are the 4pm-9am ones.

I've found lots of fish in those spots but none big enough.

I don't think I have ever seen a fish naturally spawn in any of the river mouths on my island, only on Nook islands. And my cliff top river sections are very tiny, so there's only room for like one or two fish spawns up there.

I am going to open my gates with a Dodo code tonight, might be a little easier for people: 459GN

Edit: I just realized I planted my orchard backwards (planted front rows first). Makes it hard to see where I am digging for the next line...

Enjoyed the visit. Thanks for the bamboo starter!

I try to stay out of this thread in order to avoid spoilers but just gotta say that Treehouse again nocked it out of the park. What a stellar localisation they did for this game.

I've been on the hunt for the Sturgeon as well. I unknowingly messed up catching a large fish in the mouth of a Nook Island river a few days ago, and now really regret not being more careful. I haven't seen anything large enough on my island as well, so I decided to do a Nook Island trips tonight... ended up with a Tarantula island(my first). So I went spider gathering instead of fishing for the rest of the evening. Maybe tomorrow. I have 14 fish bait ready to go.

Still looking for the string fish as well, but focusing on Sturgeon first.

I seem to be having some weird issue with growing a couple tree's in my orchard. I have two in the middle that will not grow. I grew every tree from a fruit, and everyone but those 2 has grown big and dropped fruit, but these 2 refuse to grow.

Make sure there's 2 (?) tiles of empty space between each planted tree, to give enough room for those branches to grow.

I am surprised that catching the tarantula is tough for some folks. I guess I've just been lucky, because I haven't used sneaking or really approached it anyway different than the other bugs and I've caught five or six and only been bitten once or maybe twice. And I'm generally not great at catching the flying things! Maybe there's some correlation there.

Yeah space usually. But there are sometimes spots that just won't grow. I had one of these I noticed yesterday, that hadn't grown any after a couple days.

The cool thing they changed in this game is you can dig up small trees with a shovel and move them. So even though your apple? tree isn't growing, if you dig it up you'll get an apple sapling in your pocket and you can just move it somewhere else to grow. They don't just die like they did in previous games.

I have the spacing the same as all the other tree's in my orchard so I think it may just be a bad spot. Oh well, I'll have to try a different fruit and see if it will grow there.
