Nextdoor is actually an app that allows you to see exactly how awful your neighbors are.

see also: Ring

Well, Ring is also about giving cops a bunch of additional surveillance cameras.

Ring is about using the police to boost downloads of Neighbors, their app that competes with Nextdoor. It's more concerned with controlling the surveillance state than merely supplying the cameras. Everything that partnered departments can say about Ring has to be approved by Ring first, and they provide ready-made scripts for them to use when talking about their partnership.

Thought you might find it interesting.

Appreciate the share! Really insightful, well written, and considered remarks in this piece! I’ve taken to sharing it with the folks around me as a good, scientific, but plain language explanation of our current situation.

Just a word of warning: She pushes homeopathic crap and other quack treatments *HARD*. She seems to have her facts about Covid-19 straight, but I wouldn't recommend sharing this further.
Edit - She gets worse the more I look. She recommends homeopathic medicine over Tylenol and Motrin for children with fevers; maintains that there is a link (albeit small) between the MMR vaccine and autism; while she's not outright anti-vaccine, she spends far more time talking up the dangers of a vaccine injury than she does their benefit; she conflates the odds of having a reaction, even one as minor as soreness at the injection site, with the odds of getting a serious vaccine injury; and she sells a "home remedy kit" for almost $300 that's full of water homepathic "remedies"

Thanks for the catch! I wasn't as rigorous in my fact checking as I should have been. Will update my post above based on what you've provided. Thanks again!

Sorry for passing on the link. I'll admit that I didn't catch on to the alternative remedies as I should have. Her Covid-19 information (and references) checked out. The few times I've met her, she never pushed a homeopathic agenda so I was never clued in to her bias there.

Hasn't gone that far yet, but they do have them claim that the presence of ring doorbells has reduced crime rates in neighborhoods they're in despite there being no data supporting that.

Multiple senior care centers are reporting symptoms here in Seattle. Two people from different centers have tested positive for the virus.

I'm not sure if symptoms from senior care centers isn't normal since the virus looks like the flu and old people get sick. On the other hand the two confirmed cases is a problem.

What a clever way around truth in advertising laws!

Imagine having a brain this utterly decimated by the president.

Things are not looking well for my planned trip to Italy in April.

The mayor just declared a state of emergency. Seems like overkill but maybe he knows something we don't.

The Trump Administration won't help blue states.

Yeah we were considering a trip to Greece this summer. Maybe next year instead.

Source? I didn't see anything in the Times?

I have not seen confirmed reports of multiple senior care centers reporting symptoms. Also the mayor governor declaring a state of emergency is just a thing done to free up funds/resources that will be needed to fight the spread of the virus, so it's a perfectly reasonable response.

My guess, at this point, is that we lost containment in the US a couple weeks ago but have no way of knowing because we can't do the testing. Once effective testing is in place, we'll suddenly see hundreds of cases in a bunch of different cities.

It probably won't be as bad as the worst fears. The White House's insistence on treating it with tax cuts will contribute to both the response being worse and the general panic level, but it'll mostly be a second-order effect.

Demographically/politically if it gets really bad the effects will be a toss-up: while I've seen ghoulish speculation about the age factor affecting the election, you have to also take into account that poorer people (including poorer elderly people) will be hit worse, as will disabled people, people with compromised immune systems, small children, and other vulnerable people. Not to mention that the population centers on the coasts will be hit first. I'd prefer to discourage political speculation across the board: electorally, no one will win and we'll all suffer.

Also, I predict that a lot of people will buy face masks but not wash their hands.

We'll see how it plays out.

Yep. Contrast Inslee's response with the feds. I have full faith and confidence in our state government officials. Nationwide...

Small children are surprisingly quite resilient against it so far. There've been no fatalities for children 0-9 years old.

Good guess.

The novel coronavirus has probably been spreading undetected for about six weeks in Washington state, where the first U.S. death from covid-19 was reported this weekend. A genetic analysis of the virus from a newly diagnosed patient in Snohomish County closely matched that of a specimen from the first known coronavirus patient in the United States, who traveled from China in January.

The evidence overwhelmingly suggests that these cases are linked through community transmission, researchers say, and that this has been going on for weeks, with hundreds of infections likely.

New York just joined the party. Gonna be an interesting March.

Just did a little shopping. I hope everyone has wiped their backsides and drank their water because I couldn't find TP or water. I actually been stocking up so didn't really need any but thought why not get some more in case the S hit the fan. Better stock up now on stuff if you haven't already.

Even the CDC in The Walking Dead wasn't that clumsy and the CDC in The Walking Dead blew up!

Grocery store tonight wasn't putting out any more hand sanitizer because folks were stealing it.

Humans.

I hadn't seen this, but man, this virus is the gift that keeps on giving to Republicans. First they've been arguing they will need to close the Mexican border (you know, to keep out the dirty, disease carrying browns), and now they get to enact more tax cuts (presumably for the richest)?
