[News] Coronavirus

A place to discuss the now-global coronavirus outbreak.

I spoke with a professor today and he said student withdrawal rate is 48%. Hard to study even at the best of times, let alone when you or family are out of work. A lot of people are doing it tough.

EDIT: Posting from a place of anger and frustration. Removing for now.

It's perfectly understandable Rezzy. The selfishness and ignorance of people this last year and a half has left me exasperated and it is particularly frustrating seeing how schools are being handled this year.

My sister-in-law, a teacher, had to go to the hospital last week. Not because of covid, but because she was having heart palpitations just from the stress of having to deal with everything. And she works in a reasonably responsible school district/community, compared to some of the crap going down elsewhere.

Add yet another one.

Conservative firebrand Bob Enyart, the pastor of the Denver Bible Church and indelible talk show host, has died from COVID-19, his radio co-host announced Monday on Facebook.

“Bob Enyart was one of the smartest, and without question, the wisest person I’ve known. All the while being exceedingly kind and humble.” Fred Williams, Enyart’s co-host on the Real Science Radio show, said in a post.

In October, Enyart successfully sued the state over mask mandates and capacity limits in churches, a rare legal victory against broad public health mandates instituted during the pandemic.
.....
On his old TV show, Bob Enyart Live, the host would “gleefully read obituaries of AIDS sufferers while cranking ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ by Queen,” Westword reported.

I normally wouldn't do this, but I think in this case it's warranted, since he was neither smart, wise, nor kind:

"Another one bites the dust!"

Nvm

Crisis actor! Fake news!

Many people are saying that the vaccine makes your dong thicker and your hoohoo tighter.

Ugh. It is so bad where my wife is working that nurses are being offered time and a half plus 25 dollars an hour and are being encouraged to work dangerous amounts of hours.

It is so bad for them that patients that are intubated are now being placed in non critical care wards until an icu bed opens up. Typically because the covid patient in it has died.

That's horrific.

I definitely didn't have Nicki Minaj retweeting and then defending Tucker Carlson on my 2021 bingo card.

This was almost 2 weeks ago, I'm sure it's worse now.

12 hours in a Florida ICU

That was a brutal read. Thank you for sharing.

Agreed.

A little bit of a rant incoming - sorry. I was just let go from my government job despite being an essential worker and busting ass throughout the pandemic. If things had gotten under control I would still likely be employed, but the exec decided to cut a bunch of jobs in case we go into a recession, which is looking more and more likely. There’s also a push by the conservatives on the local council to make government “feel the pain of the private sector” all the while trying to skirt Washington mask rules.

I’m not trying to make this about me but I’m pissed as hell at all the selfish SOBs out there. And also we have really smart financial analysts at the state and county levels, so if they’re forecasting bad times ahead I believe them.

This has the potential to fit in so many places, but here goes:

The White House Wants to Talk to Nicki Minaj About Her Cousin’s Friend’s Balls

Nothing helps recover from a recession like firing people so they *checks notes* stop creating economic activity...

Hmmmm.

Sorry, dude. I think their forecast is probably wrong, but sucks so much comes down to flippin masks. I just don't see the tyranny here.

Hmmmm.

Many have it worse than me so I can’t complain too bad. Just pissed that people couldn’t take even minor precautions.

It’s pretty much double time for me and my wife. There are no ICU beds at my work and ER is full. If you don’t need a ICU bed you will be sent home ASAP.

AND. You can put me on record. Having been amused by the vaccine episode of Andy Griffith. I work at a retail store. Masks are required. Our employees are all thankfully not crazy and vaccinated. Masks are required in the store, but we've stopped fighting people on it because we're god damn tired.

Wearing a mask over 8 hours a day 5-6 days a week really sucks.
