NFL 2019: The Super Bowl!!!!

So this settles it though, right? The most valuable thing in the NFL is the ability to get consistent pressure with 4?

Also from the Barnwell article:

The 49ers should have been concerned about what would happen if their pass rush slowed down. As I mentioned on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt last week, the 49ers' defense ranked second in QBR allowed during the first three quarters of the game when they had a lead of 10 points or fewer, but in the fourth quarter, with the pass rush presumably slowing down, that mark fell all the way to 27th. When the Chiefs were able to block the front four, Mahomes & Co. were able to make plays.

I also think there was way to much focus on the 2nd half.. I thought the biggest mistake the Niners made was right before the half settling for 10 points against the Chiefs. You have to value every single possession in football and essentially they gave it away. Sure Niners fans will bitch and moan about the OPI but that was textbook OPI.. he not only pushed off once.. he pushed off twice.. thats gonna draw the flag every time... and by then you basically wait until 14 seconds to then go for it? I get wanting to deny the potential possessions from KC.. but that's essentially playing it safe.. and you rarely win playing it safe.

To be fair, KC helped create that situation by calling time out on that previous third down. I don't think that was a smart gamble, and JG exploited it by picking up the 1st down and a large enough chunk of yards that it now made sense to take a shot. I didn't like the time out because the upside for the Chiefs was a lot less likely than SF just picking up third down.

I just think it is bad to give any offense an extra play in a 2-minute drill. You can't call a time out until you force a 4th down. I guess Andy could reason that the Chiefs calling time out would cause SF to turtle even more, forcing the Chiefs to use another time out. But that is still a bad gamble.

Pretty cool. Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy said they stole that first TD play from Michigan in an old Rose Bowl vs. USC. I looked, and yep. This is from New Year's Day 1948. Fritz Crisler = visionary

Gif of the play at the link.

Just favoriting this post for later use in the NCAA thread Jayhawker

Man, I think Damien Williams is going to get released. He's a great fit in the Chiefs offense, but his cap hit goes way up next year, and I don't think he renegotiates to anything less when I think he get can get massively overpaid by someone else on the FA market.

I think there is a good case that he should have been the MVP, and he would be a fool to not use this moment to sign the biggest deal he can find right now. Would love to have him back, but I also hope he finds a big payday. I don't think KC will invest that much at HB. He's not a Marshall Faulk or Priest Holmes, and they have other areas that need more attention. They can go in a lot of different directions at HB and make it work.

Damien Williams def had a great game. I'm not sure I'd go MVP for him as his stats and whatnot were slightly inflated by the 39 yard TD run to put the game away. Important, absolutely, but Mahomes' legs and arm together were even more important. Yeah, the QB is overvalued, but they're tasked with way more stuff. Mahomes repeatedly managing to get away from Bosa was the biggest reason they managed the 10 points they got in the first half.

I don’t know what the yardage was for Mahomes rushing yard total, but the overs had at least a 7.5 yard cushion...until Mahomes took his 3 kneel downs.

**edit**
The line went from anywhere between 30.5 to 36.5.

He had 44yds prior to kneel downs, and 29 after

At least one hard core prop better was screaming their head off at the end of the game.

Can we get a Legion Face Cam for moments like this?

He did decide to head to the stadium to watch the 4th quarter, so yes, should be possible in theory.

They still do a podcast?

Pete Crapletters.

Frank Clark working on cementing his status as a fan favorite at the parade today.

Been seeing some reports that the parade was small today, which is true. But weather was freaking weird today. They have been calling for ice and snow all day, but it only hit in spots. But Teresa is stuck in KC because the weather is so bad, and 1-70 was shutdown for awhile.

We got some of the same storm in St. Louis, and it really was weird. I went to lunch and my car was covered in ice, and the lot was slick. By the time I got back an hour later, it was all gone. No cars with ice, and all the pavement was dry. And it wasn't sunny. But even if the weather looked fine, there were more issues than were visible.

Regardless, because of the ice, a ton of people would not go downtown, and with I-70 closed, a lot of people never even had a choice.

But the Royals are going to rub it in because it is like comparing Obama's and Trump's inauguration photos. Of course, it was sunny and 70 degrees for the Royals parade.

I was just thinking about Derrick Thomas.. so that was a cool picture you posted Jay.. He for sure is smiling now. Shame they couldnt win one when he was active.. after LT probably the best pass rusher LB there was all time.

I loved Derrick Thomas.

Kansas City was a favorite of mine as a kid. I used them in Tecmo Super Bowl like many people did, because of Christian Okoye.

Pardon my silly videogame tale, but one season on the Sega Genesis version of Tecmo Super Bowl I had 181 sacks in a season with Derrick Thomas. He was a beast in real life and the video game world viewed him as such as well.

I remember vividly his 7 sack game.. that was super cool.

Same. In video game land he topped that by frequently having 11 sack games. lol.

Derrick Thomas was my secret weapon against you in 2K8. Any time I thought you might be passing, instead of blitzing DT, I set him to cover f*cking Ben Coates. DT was so fast that he could limit Coates more than any other defense.

Oh wow. Flashback Thursday. That's right.

Chuckling at Warren Moon, who I do not remember as being particularly fleet-footed, sandbagging his 40 so coaches would't want to try and change his position.

One more try in the correct forum...

Do Patriot fans troll every fanbase that has won a Super Bowl? It's weird how consistently Patriot fans have been finding themselves in Chiefs twitter threads. And it's no other fanbase, save for the occasional Bronco troll. But I expect division rivals to get some shots in.

I distinctly remember watching this game as a kid. And the final play.

One of my former direct reports has a great story about this game. Her husband would record every Hawks game and not watch it live so he could skip the commercials. She would often watch it live, so she's seen the whole game and then he goes to turn it on the VCR. He's watching the game and getting madder and madder and she's keeping her mouth shut. It gets to the end of the game and Thomas is racking up sacks and he just turns it off, "I'm done with this garbage!" She goes back and reinserts the VHS tape and says, "George, get in here and finish this game, after it's over you can rewind the tape and just re-record over it, but you're going to sit here and finish this like a man."

He does and is all, "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!?!?!"

And she just smiles and says, "Sweetie, that would have spoiled the surprise!"

Go Hawks.

With NE's lengthy, recent win streaks I think it's to be expected they have annoying, asshat fans who now see that their Dynasty is dying or dead so they're lashing out.

Cowboys fans likely did the same thing years ago when Dallas was still relevant.

There are also a lot of Patriots fans given it's New England and not just MA. I'm curious how they are trolling the KC fanbase? If it's the parade crowd size I know they were poking fun of it on sports radio.
