Games coming in 2020 - Which new titles are you excited for?

Pages

Budo created this exact same thread at the end of 2018 for games coming out in 2019, and since I loved the idea and I don't think it's been done for games (allegedly) coming out in 2020, I thought I'd go ahead and make it. I also re-read the games I listed back then, and there are six that appear on this year's list as well because they were not released in 2019... and I didn't even include Beyond Good and Evil 2 last year, nor will I do so this year either.

In any case, here's my list. I am looking forward to reading what you friends are most excited about in 2020!

Arani
Away
Baldo
Bayonetta/Vanquish Remastered bundle (I've never played either one!)
Biomutant (Is this ever coming out? I mean, seriously?)
Ghost of Tsushima
Ghostwire Tokyo (Will it actually come out this year? Maybe in 2021...)
Ling
Little Nightmares II
9 Monkeys of Shaolin
No Straight Roads
Project Awakening
Psychonauts 2
Resident Evil 3 Remake (Still haven't bought RE2...)
Tamarin
The Last of Us Part II (If I could only get one game this year, it'd be this one)
The Pathless
Zombie Army 4
Weird West

I'm most excited for Ostranauts. It's being developed by the guy who made NEO Scavenger and set in the same universe.

It's a spaceship simulator with exhaustively detailed mechanics in crew and ship management. Kinda like RimWorld in space maybe? But with a smaller, more intimate scale.

That sounds both cool and waaaaay too complicated for me!

Budo actually made a similar thread for 2020. Top 5 Games you're looking forward to in 2020

He just did it back in September, so it was easy to miss

I see! I backtracked all the way to November! Clearly, it wasn't far back enough!

Well, that one died in September and this one's active, so here are mine:

Definitely:
Beyond Good & Evil 2 (I believe!)
Cyberpunk 2077
Ghost of Tsushima
No More Heroes III (though I should play more than a few hours of the first 2.5 games first....)
Psychonauts 2
The Last of Us Part II
System Shock remake

Maybe:
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope (still gotta play Until Dawn and Man of Medan first)
Half Life: Alyx (though having the gear for it will probably push my purchase to 2023ish)
Persona 5 Royal (problem is, I never finished P3, and I never started P4 due to them being such huge timesinks....so I'm more looking forward to owning it and having the OPTION to play, rather than actually playing)

That kind of sums up my list really - I like the concept of having these games in my library so that I could theoretically one day experience them. I know that, except in extraordinary circumstances, I will never play more than an hour or two of them right after buying them.

Like Fox Mulder, I want to believe too. Fortunately, if it doesn't come out this year, there are still plenty of games to play, so it's not as if we're going to be bored with nothing to do if BG&E2 doesn't come out this year.

AUs_TBirD wrote:

I 100% recommend Until Dawn. Man of Medan, I liked but didn't love. I'll be curious to see what the reception for Little Hope is.

I've never played a Persona game, but I've been interested in P5 since even before I got my PS4. Just like Divinity: Original Sin II, it looks like an amazing game, but the turn-based combat gives me pause, which is why I haven't bought either game yet. I've never really played any turn-based RPGs, but that combat system doesn't seem particularly appealing to me... but I might like it if I try it! In any case, Persona 5 Royal looks pretty cool!

1. Kerbal Space Program 2
2. Crusader Kings III
3. Desperados III
4. Gods & Monsters
5. Sable
6. Trials of Mana
7. Industries of Titan
8. Microsoft Flight Simulator

Thank you for starting a new thread. I posted in the old one, and I've been kicking myself since then for forgetting Sable.

This PC Gamer 2020 Fantasy Draft was also a fun format if you're looking for more titles to anticipate.

Definites
Kentucky Route Zero Act V
Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Cyberpunk 2077
The Last of Us Part II
Doom Eternal
Assassin's Creed vNext
Playstation 5 in general

I believe!
Beyond Good & Evil 2
Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster

At this point, the only game I am somewhat interested in is Sable. There are a few things that I will want to play at some point in the future (FF7 Remake, once it's complete and has had a few price drops), but other than that, I'm just content playing the games I've bought and never beaten over the years.

That's the beauty of making a list with unlimited items, hahaha! That said, Sable looks incredible --it's like a Moebius comic became a videogame!

I embrace all believers in this game, haha. I do hope BG&E2 comes out this year, but I have a feeling that pirate game Ubisoft is making will come out first... and it looks like that one isn't coming out any time soon... And talking about Ubisoft, I'm also interested in the next Assassin's Creed, but I just bought Origins (haven't started it yet), and since I've been averagin one AC game a year for the past couple, I'm guessing I won't get to AC: Vikings (or whatever it ends up being) until 2022, hahaha.

Also, I should add the Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster to my list. I've always been curious about the franchise but haven't played a single game!

For what it's worth, the combat in P5 feels much faster than in many other turn-based RPGs. I think the animations are faster than in games like Dragon Quest, for example. It also helps that the possible actions are mapped to different buttons, which reduces the amount of time you need to spend navigating menus while in battle.

Cyberpunk 2077
Vampire Bloodlines 2
Carrion
Halo stuff from the Master chief edition. I think halo 1 is next?

Thank you, LastSurprise. That's good to know!

Binding of Isaac: Repentance
HollowKnight Silksong
Kerbal Space Program 2

Animal Crossing

Then if I have any time left, Cyberpunk, Last of Us 2

Hoping: BotW 2

I have time for very little, so basically, I'm waiting on Cyberpunk 2077. I'm genuinely pleased it got delayed, means I have more time to catch up on my backlog.*

* - I will never catch up on my backlog.

Looking past Cyberpunk and FF7 Remake, 2020 is not lighting me up inside. Biomutant looked interesting enough when it got announced, so I guess we'll see if that comes out this year.

I'm sure there will be some exciting additions to the release calendar but for now it looks like ample opportunity to get to some of the games I missed.

Also - Ubisofts Gods and Monsters seems to have vanished from all preorders on the Xbox and other places, where it previously had an early 2020 release. I seriously doubt that one is out this year either.

Ah, Ubisoft... Why do you do this to us?

Aye, I found this

Today, Ubisoft announced that it’s delaying Gods and Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine, and Watch Dogs Legion into its fiscal 2020–2021 year. That means that these games could all be released sometime between April 2020 and March 2021, so we’ll be waiting a bit longer for them.

I dont think these 2 have been mentioned:

Humankind
Baldur's Gate 3

Yes, Ubisoft delayed their entire 2020 catalog when they reported poor numbers last year. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint flopped and The Division 2 also disappointed*, so they had to change something. The latest I heard was still late 2020 for Gods & Monsters.

*Which surprised me since it gets a lot of praise around here. Maybe it had trouble standing out from all the other modern shooter games.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Kerbel Space Program 2.

Cyberpunk because I played the original tabletop RPG in the 90's in high school and college and loved it and I'll give any game developed by the same company that made The Witcher 3 a try!

Kerbel Space Program 2 to enjoy exploration and building with my kids in a multiplayer game.

My list consists mostly of Crusader Kings 3 and Watch Dogs Legion at this point, but I'm seldom able to predict what games I'll find most interesting this far before release. The really innovative ones don't get enough publicity this far in advance. If you'd asked me at this time last year, for example, Disco Elysium wouldn't have been on my radar.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Mount & Blade 2
Warcraft 3 remaster
The Last of Us 2
New Halo game
Age of Empires 4 (More likely 2021 but I can hope!)

My list has changed a bit from September, so I'll repost it

Crusader Kings 3
Cyberpunk 2077
Humanity
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles remaster
Psychonauts 2

And predictions:
Breath of the Wild 2
Rune Factory 5

Humanity looks cool, and I'm also interested in Psychonauts 2... especially now that I know there is a remastered version of the first one for the PS4!

I wish the Ori games were available for the PS4. I've always wanted to play the first one, and the new one looks amazing as well!

I agree. I enjoy a lot of smaller games, and you don't usually know those are coming out months or years in advance. As for Disco Elysium in particular, it looks very interesting, and I know people are loving it. I'm cautiously excited about the announcement the game will be released for the PS4 this year, but I'm not 100% sure I will like the game, so I think I'll probably wait for a deep discount to try it, just in case...

Mario_Alba wrote:

I thought the version on PS4 was just the PS2 game but with a higher resolution?

Could be. I just didn't even know it was available for the PS4 until a few days ago .

Definitely of interest:
Crusader Kings 3
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (already got it and loving it!)
Yakuza 7
FF7 Remake (more for my wife than me, but still, it's pre-ordered)
Wasteland 3
Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
V:TM Bloodlines 2 (if it comes out in 2020)

Maybe:
Warcraft 3: Reforged
Last of Us 2 (I'll get it eventually, but I don't feel the urge to buy it right away)
Persona 5: The Royal and P5: Scramble (both are going to be gotten eventually, when they're on deep discount, but not day 1)
