Welcome, and happy “91st Anniversary of the first Mickey cartoon with sound, Steamboat Willie” week! You may all celebrate by wondering how much money has been spent to ensure that it will not be public domain until 2024.

This week, We Happy Few gets its last piece of DLC: We All Fall Down, 15 months after initial release. Is anybody still playing this game? I don’t know if playing as a woman with a whip will be enticing enough to jump back in considering all the other new shiny around.

Speaking of the “happy few”, it’s a banner week for faithful Civilization Revolution fans. Sid Meier wants to say sorry that we’ve waited ten long years for a sequel, and sorry for the battery-sucking iPad versions, and to show it, he’s giving us the full shebang. The big daddy, Sid Meier's Civilization VI, comes to Xbone and PS4. While I’ve been enjoying vanilla Civ VI on the Switch these last few months, I am surprised at how much emptier it feels. The Rise and Fall and The Gathering Storm expansions add so many systems and layers (and extra civs, and rock bands) that vanilla Civ VI feels like Civ Rev with hexes. Anyhoo, that all changes this week, with the release of the expansion bundles on all consoles as well. PS4 gets a bunch of free civs and scenario packs, which will be nickel-and-dimed to Xboners. We’re reaching the Civ VI platform-singularity and I may never speak to my family again.

In other cross-platform strategy news, Age of Wonders: Planetfall - Revelations brings a new NPC faction, The Forgotten, plus a scenario, Anomalous Sites to explore, and over 10 hours of campaign missions. Many people seem to have held off on Age of Wonders, waiting for it to be fleshed out with DLC. Well, that time has come—jump in!

If you’re a PC strategy fan feeling a bit grumpy about sharing the cool toys with your console cousins, here’s a new shiny just for you: BattleTech: Heavy Metal. It’s a chunky offering with plenty of nods to longtime BattleTech lore-nerds. It adds eight new mechs: seven from the original board game, including the iconic Rifleman and Warhammer, and one original. It brings a new mini-campaign where you meet the famous Wolf’s Dragoons. Most interestingly, it’s got new weapons that mix up the tactical game. Mortars bring AOE to bear and there’s a charging energy weapon that does increased damage as you move farther. This looks like a great excuse to start a new campaign.

For the turn-based strategy fan who’s looking for something new, something with a different setting, something based on a Netflix TV series, there’s Narcos: Rise of the Cartels. It’s the XCOM template of squad-based tactics with a management overlay, stamped onto the Colombian drug wars of the 1980s. You can play as the DEA or the cartel, with campaigns based on the storylines of the show. Unfortunately, it would have to have a decent price to stand out from the crowd this week.

Non-strategy gamers, this may not be your week, but how about Bubble Bobble 4 Friends? I’m sold just because it includes the original arcade Bubble Bobble, but the new game has 4 player co-op, cool HD music and graphics, new levels, yadda yadda yadda.

My GOTW is obviously the eruption of Civ VI and its expansions on consoles, but BattleTech: Heavy Metal was robbed. Apologies to the non-strategy fans, who were also robbed.

We're jumping the shark this week, apparently.

VVVVV is not to be confused with VVVVVV, and, frankly, I don't know how the devs of VVVVV can live with themselves. Bunch of asshats, clearly.

Narcos: Rise of the Cartels is game based on a Netflix series? We truly are living in the 21st century.

Oooh, Children of Morta on Switch week!

Civ VI expansion bundle for Switch is all I care about. Civ is the reason I bought the damn system, though I ended up spending the past year playing pretty much everything except Civ. But that changes with the Switch finally getting the full Civ VI experience.

I was happily scrolling down the list, pleased that nothing was really standing out to me. Then I saw Children of Morta on Switch. Dammit.

Every week there's a bunch of opportunistically-named, SEO-juking games coming out on Steam (usually with some attempt at putting "Destiny" or "Apex" in the title) but VVVVV is the most flagrant. It's a different kind of game from VVVVVV, with a similar pixel-based art style, but sheesh -- if it's not intentional, they've made unnecessary trouble for themselves

I had a really nice time with Children of Morta on PC. I hope it does well on Switch.

Shenmue III, at some point. Munchkin: Quacked Quest looks like fun, but I'm sure I don't have the bandwidth to dive into it any time soon, so, who knows... maybe when it goes on sale?
