I downloaded IV on Gamepass and was greeted with a 10 step captcha to create a Battlenet account before I could play. What is this nonsense about? Really?
I imagine the lengthy captcha is there to slow down gold-sellers and botters in World of Warcraft.
As for the account itself, it lets you play your characters regardless of platform. When playing D4 I frequently bounce between Xbox and Steam Deck and it works seamlessly.
and Steam Deck
Oh no. No! Nooooooooooo!
Played some more last night until I started to nod off (but in a good way). My falling asleep in the chair wasn't due to boredom sifting through my inventory of loot, which is what used to happen.
People have been talking about D4 being much easier during the 1-100 leveling grind and I do feel a much gentler experience. I've never been much of a Thorns/bleed person for character builds but it seems pretty good on the Barb. Like, I'm wading into massive mobs in Helltide and doing a couple swings of Flay if I'm low on Fury, popping a Rend or two and... that's enough. Enemies are hitting themselves dead between the thorning and the bleeding and if they're still standing I like to play a fun game of constantly having uptime on my Death Blow.
But most strange of all is that I'm barely using health pots. There seems to be waaaay more health regen or Life on Hit on gear now. I've never really done well with Barb in D3 and this game and was always guzzling health potions. Not anymore!
Who is GM of guild/clan? I applied (scrubpatrol)/scrub)…
Hell tides are fun. That balance of hectic but doable.
It does get a bit annoying when enemies are spawning in so quickly that you can’t open chests or go into your paragon board to allocate points.
If anyone wants to group up for Lilith of one of the tormented bosses for the season journey, I'm available. I've gotten a minion necro to 100 but I just kind of tickle Lilith. After seeing how much work needs to go into fully masterworking your gear, I don't really feel like engaging with this new endgame stuff. Just crazy tedious.
One of the things I appreciate about how D4 is shaping up: I have never actually hit max level, but on just about every character I've played I still feel like I'm meaningfully interacting with all the systems and executing an actual build.
I have no idea wtf I am doing other than following loosely some youtuber leveling advice.
It was fun to clear the dungeon that unlock WT3 at level 35.
I am level 52 or 53 minion necro and it is nice to finally play a strong pet class. I am planning to do the dungeon that unlocks WT4 at level 55.
Apparently the pure helltide leveling isn't the fastest way to level. Nightmare dungeons get a boost because of massive xp from completing events in NM dungeons.
Levelling a rogue right now, not following any guides just using 2 traps and building in some life steal. Got the big traps passive and just keep dropping traps and bombs on fools.
Rolled a Whirly Barb for old times sake and playing on my ROG Ally is going to be the death of me.
I actively resisted firing it up last night so I could go to bed early.
It's time for me to farm for them Nightmare Sigils so I can do Nightmare Dungeons in WT3. Everything's fine and dandy in WT3 until I try to tango with the Helltide boss and I pretty much get one-shot if she so much as looks at me.
I've been doing a weird bleed/Thorns hybrid build as I'm leveling but what I really want to do is focus in on just Thornin' fools. I don't have the Paragon and gear to fully realize that vision yet, I think? Which means a great time for me to just experiment. But I don't want to be one-shotted constantly. That's no good.
Nightmare sigils aren't as easy to farm nowadays. In previous seasons completing a NM dungeon usually got you 3-4 sigils, now you get some dust via loot and exactly one of level Current+1. I've seen them drop off Butcher, and you can also get them from Tree, Hellfire, and I think Iron Wolves seasonal awards as well. At least gone for me are the days of having an inventory tab full of sigils figuring out which ones to junk and for that I'm thankful.
Also, at least from what I've seen so far a lot of the more onerous or just annoying ones seem to be gone. Through NM level 40, I've yet to see Armor, or Resist or Potion penalties. I haven't seen the stupid lightening storm affix, nor any reduce crit/range/close damage. I've seen pretty much a rotation of blood boils, the rock that follows you around, volcanic, and the little spark that stuns you.
I'm running a blood surge necro. It's entertaining.. bad against single target bosses, but I can basically just walk through a dungeon or helltide and just blow the screen up. I tried my first Profane Cage, and while it got hairy when I hit max helltide, and everything started spawning, I was able to wiggle my way out of it.
So the Necro is a lot of explosive fun. Not as fun as the Battle Sister still, but better than it was at launch.
I got a sigil from somewhere last night... I think it might have been off the Helltide boss. Not the new boss that's a pain in the ass--the old one where there's a big ritual with a screen-size blinding whirlwind in the middle and he shows up when you kill all the dudes on the outside.
I was very confused by the blacksmith at first. The upgrade tab just doesn't happen. And then it unlocked adding custom bonuses to legendary gear, and my in the low 30s druid has *all* legendary gear, and some chest armor that's some kind of level above that. Seems cool so far, and now I'm constantly a wearbear and my three wolves are constantly werewolves.
I've only played D4 very casually...so after I hit 35+, i should do the dungeon that unlocks nightmare, and then I should do what exactly? Keep leveling up my reputation with the Iron Wolves? I don't seem to play at the same time on Xbox as anybody else, living in SE Europe...
Yeah, the item upgrade changes are a bit tough to figure out. I happened to catch the tutorial quests when they popped, but that's because I'd read just enough to know to look for changes. The main thing that helped me figure it out was realizing I could click the Tempering recipes from anywhere to unlock them and, importantly, free up the inventory space.
As for "do what, exactly?" it looks like this season is all about grinding out the Helltides. At some point there's "The Pit" that seems to function kind of like D3's greater rifts, but I think you have to progress your Nightmare Dungeon tier up to a certain level before you can access that. I've only just hit World Tier 3 myself so I'm not sure.
The Pit is only in WT4, and is where you get masterworking materials for the new endgame crafting stuff.
Okay so it's coming back to me. I did a thing for the Tree of Whispers, got some goodies from it and found a tier 1 Nightmare Sigil which I immediately used. I teleported to the nightmare dungeon, finished it and was rewarded a tier 2 Nightmare Sigil. So it looks like I'm on the path now!
Hit 58 which is the highest I've ever been. And this is playing very part time since I am heavily into rehearsals.
I'd wager it took me another 20 hours to hit 54 in prior seasons than to hit 58 in this one.
And that is on top of unlocking world tier 4 for the first time ever.
Also doing dozens instead of 2-3 NM dungeons...
I have stalled with gear in my 50's. I found a few uniques that can't be replaced.
It is nice to have pieces that:
%57 of the skeleton priest buff works on me
bonus % to minion attack speed + convert minions to darkness damage type
mages cast blizzard
mages buff other skellies
Minion necros are really fun. Even the golem is way powerful + hits like a truck
My favorite =win tempering is the one that lucky hit does +2000 shadow, physical, fire, cold damage
So the Necro is a lot of explosive fun. Not as fun as the Battle Sister still, but better than it was at launch.
I'm here for Veloxi dropping W40K Inquisitor Martyr references in the Diablo IV thread lol.
Definitely use those holy bolt potions if you got em. They are stupidly broken and do crazy amounts of damage. I was able to clear my first 100 Nightmare Dungeon last night. It was not easy but a lot of fun finally accomplishing it.
I'm using the minion necro build from Maxroll and completed it with mediocre gear at 95.
I seem to have stumbled on a Druid build that stupidly powerful. My Bear smash sends out a shockwave that basically fills the screen, and I have 2-3 ways to force an Overpower with it. I walked into Tier IV at level ~62 without breaking a sweat. The T4 Helltide season boss was touch-and-go for a bit until I got Ancestral items in most of my slots. With a little refining I think this could carry me as far as I care to go.
Question: when I reinstalled this on my Series X, it went super fast. Like 100MB+/sec download. On both my ROG Ally and PC, it's taking forever, sometimes down at kilobytes/sec. All on the home network.
Anybody know why?
Better connection to the Xbox store than to Battle.net?
So, my house is closer (?) to the Xbox server than to the Bnet server?
That would mean Xbox servers are...significantly differently located than Bnet? That seems...weird?
I'm not a network expert so I've got zero context here but it seems weird, to me, that two major providers have such a major service difference. It feels like my Amazon Prime video is working at 10% of my Netflix video streaming. Wha-?
Once installed on ROG Ally, no perceivable difference in network connection on it vs Xbox. Just the install speed.
I say all that but you could absolutely be right!
I've had a lot of connection issues playing D4 lately. I think Blizzard's servers might be getting hit with a DDOS. That could explain it.
Or maybe they're just having some technical issues with launching the new D4 season, the WoW Pandaria Remix event, and the Cataclysm Classic launch.
