Diablo IV - Catch All

Having finished Diablos II and III, and only being interested in the single player campaign, is this game worth picking up?

I was satisfied with the campaign. It's certainly worth it for that if it's still on sale for the holidays. There are plenty of side stories to chase down too, if you like.

Unless having other people running around in your game incidentally is a deal-breaker. Diablo IV is a MMO* so other folks will be out and about. The major story beats do all happen in private instances though.

*MMO as in it's a massively multiplayer online shared game space. It is not a World of Warcraft-style graphical Diku MUD.

Yes it is worth it for the campaign. You can turn off or severely limit the amount of other players running around in your world/instance.

There are lots of easter eggs and things like Lillith altars to "gotta catch em all" to encourage exploration. It is added value outside of the campaign. And dungeon rewards include class specific item properties that you can enchant (add and replace) to complement class builds.

There is a holiday event going on right now that is simple and fun.

I vote no unless it's further on sale or you really like the normal Diablo endgame grind ( I do enough to do it). That said Season of Blood is a fun quick addition.

I am in the process of switching from chain lightning sorcerer to ball lightning sorcerer. The difference in clearing speed is significant.

I wish to subscribe to your newsletter. I've been chain since I've started, but getting bored with nothing changing.

I've been playing a fireball sorcerer and I almost don't see enemies as they die at the edge of my screen. I have been playing with a barbarian who keeps complaining that there is nothing for him to kill.

Ok, I switched to Ball Lightning.
Walking, electric murder bomb. A bit squishy, but working pretty well for me at the moment.

I use fireball and chainlightning as my enchantments to boost my talrasha's damage output. I did briefly run a complete build around fireball but it was too mana hungry for what i was trying.

Honestly i don't think there's a single 'bad' build out there unless you're trying to push end game content and then it matters.

I found the squishy went away with paragons. Several add some good resist boost. That said, I can still get one shot with fulls shields by a corpse bow from off screen. Boooooo.

I am using the maxroll build guide for my ball lightning sorc. Currently working on getting geared up so I can get more damage. With my lash and ball lightning, the only time I get killed is if a bunch of exploding guys sneak up when I am in a giant horde of monsters. I am handling L35ish NMDs pretty easily though.

I used the MaxRoll leveling and now endgame build as well. Love their stuff. Easy to follow.

At some point you want to run a bunch of Duriel and Zir runs for the items you need for the build.

I still on the levelling part. Grinding for gear and aspects in NMDs, Helltides and Blood Harvest zones.

I know it probably wasn't what you were trying, but I am not running into a mana issue with my fireball build. I use three defensive skills (flame shield, ice armor and teleport). I have the minor skill that has lucky hit where a 15% chance on a crit to reset the cooldown on a defensive skill. Then I have a unique item that grants me 50 mana every time I go unstoppable (which both flame shield and ice armor do, ice armor needs a unique to do this). Flame shield reduces mana consumption and ice armor increases mana regen. Combine that with inferno which lets you spam fireballs without using any mana and I find I rarely run out of mana.

I use the enchantment for flame shield so if I ever do get "killed" it activates giving me half my life and 50 mana. I also use the fireball enchantment so I can get extra splash damage. With the unique gloves that make the fireball bounce 4 times and the unique staff that makes every third cast launch 3 fireballs, other then bosses and really hard elites, everything is dead before it has a chance to do anything. The barbarian friend is there to cover those other cases.

Can I get an invite to the clan?

I run a fireball build.. I occasionally run into mana problems, but that's because I'm bad at games and just spam fireball.

I really don't like how squishy I am though.. I literally died 4 times to the same stupid Undead Ballista in a NM91 last night. With Ice Armor up.. didn't matter.. I TP'ed right next to it and before I could Frost Nova, it shot me dead. It had perfect dead-eye aim and I couldn't do anything about it.

I am only in the NM60s so I can't speak to the 90s yet. But the flame shield enchantment helps, especially since I have glass cannon at level 4 which makes me take more damage. I use barriers too which helps.

Just got this on Xbox. Anyone still playing? Gwj clan for Xbox?

Clans are cross-platform

Is there a GWJ clan?

I play on Xbox.

The clan is private and I think there's only a few people that can send invites. Ranalin started the clan so he's one of them. He's usually around the thread when it's active but you may want to message him. I don't remember who else can.

send me a friend request ranalin#1558

Still playing (and on Xbox), but in a clan with family.

Currently the only one who's pushing endgame content though - so I might send out some invites. (Have some Duriel materials that are sitting idle, and still need to kill Uber Lilith somehow).

FYI i set the clan to public again because seems like folks from the forums got the game for christmas, and it will be easier to let the requests queue for any of the officers to accept than trying to guess when folks are on.

Odds are high the volume of requests won't be that high till S3 kicks off

What's the name of the clan then? And thanks ranalin.

Edit: I'm in, thanks a bunch.

I see Season 3 is coming soon. If I missed Season 2 is it worth jumping back in to see the seasonal mechanics, or should I just wait until everyone is starting fresh?

Unless you really want to play right now I would just wait until next week. I’ve enjoyed this season but the story bits were pretty minimal and you don’t really have enough time to unlock most of the cosmetic stuff.

Anyone logging in for the season and want to group up? I’m very interested in the construct pets.

I'm Dimmerswitch#1318, and happy to group up with anyone running seasonal content (though my console time is somewhat limited, due to my wife discovering how much she enjoys Baldur's Gate 3)
