Diablo IV - Catch All

Also they said you have to login with your character that has found the statues before they are available to the seasonal character. Make sure you did that too.

That did the trick! Weird requirement

They made that change pretty quickly. My guess is it works like this because someone figured out a hack that didn't involve writing code that might accidentally nuke the character database.

They've been telling people that you will need to log in with the character with the highest clear rate since they announced that it would carry over to the season. They even had a big splash screen in the game about things to do before the start of the season including that and to finish the campaign.

Started Season 1 with a druid.

I haven't played this in a week or so. I've got a druid who's level 45-ish that's still in Act 3, World level one. I see there's a season out now and there was patch that according to reddit is the worst thing to ever happen to humanity.

Should I ignore everything and play out the main quest with my current character? Or start a new seasonal character and ignore the main quest? Or forget this game exists until the dust blows over and people are liking the game again?

Weeeellllllll... You have to finish the main storyline before you start a seasonal character, so......

You can start a seasonal character without finishing the story but you can't start the season quest line until you finish the story. And, I believe, you will need to start from the beginning of the story.

Did you go in and claim all the renown rewards? I had to go in and claim the ones I unlocked even though I had the renown already.

Totally missed this. Thanks for the heads up.

Finished the campaign!

World Tier II.

My Chain Lightening Sorcerer ended up at just over level 45. Lilith ended up being fairly straightforward:

Spoiler:

Her first stage was easy and I got through that the first attempt. Her second stage was harder and took me 4 tries. The skill I used that made it possible was using my Teleport skill to escape from her whirlpool effect. Then provided I stayed out of the fire zones and kept away while vulnerable, I did OK.

Next steps:

- Try the capstone dungeon to see just how close I am to succeeding.
- Farm renown to get all additional skill points (and hopefully a few more levels)
- Maybe knockout a couple of dungeons for some good aspects

The goal is to advance into Tier III a quickly as possible and then start knocking out the side quests and dungeons.

At some point I will try out the season. With a Barbarian, I think.

I am up to level 13 with my druid on Seasonal World Tier II. Very much less squishy. Lots of fun and very simple so far.

Weeeellllllll... That settles that! I've continued with my eternal realm character a bit today. I'm no longer in Act 3, and bumped myself up to world tier 2 just for the heck of it. Doing fine at that level, but I'm definitely needing to manage my health pots more.

They buffed the rewards in Tier 2 with the most recent patch, so it should be worth playing now. Initially the math said Tier 1 was more rewarding because things died fast enough to more than offset the T2 benefits. I still played T2 because I preferred how it played, but it's nice to know that it's no longer sub-optimal to do so.

I've stopped paying attention to the D4 subreddit. The recent patch wasn't the best on paper, but the game is still fun. It's probably more of an issue if you are pushing the bleeding edge of the game systems, but I barely got into T4 so *shrug*.

I started a seasonal character even though I don't feel like I'm quite done with my initial one. It looks like the preseason lasted about half as long as season 1 is supposed to. Based on my progress that feels like it'll be about right.

T2 Necro lvl 22 using the summoner build from maxroll. Rocking through stuff very well.

T2 when starting a new alt or a seasonal character is optimal especially with the extra skill points and Lilith unlocks.

It wasn't a bad patch because the nerfs... most of those were needed. It was bad because they made changes without telling us and some of them went against stated philosophies they had previously given. There was also an extreme lack of QoL changes and those that they did add in response were still minimal.

There's a reason they stated in their fireside chat that they'll never do a patch like that again.

Checking in to see if/how monetization beyond the base game purchase is? I heard something about experience potions in addition to cosmetics? Thinking of buying for a solo playthrough.

All I've seen so far is cosmetics.

You can pay more to unlock the cosmetics faster, and the cosmetics unlock as you earn points and fill up a bar, but that's a different bar from the one that makes your character level up.

the only issue I have with the monetization isn’t technically a problem right now but is something I could see becoming one in the future- one of the items you get periodically as you rank up on the battle pass is a currency which you use to activate and upgrade seasonal buffs which apply to all your characters the same way the paragon system did in Diablo 3. That currency is on the free track now (though as mentioned above you can pay to skip ranks in the battle pass), but the decision to tie it into the battle pass at all seems problematic to me.

The item that you can use to activate seasonal buffs (Smoldering Ashes) is level restricted. This means that even if you purchase every rank of the battle pass, you still cannot use the smoldering ashes. I believe the first one you get is around level 40 or 45 (I would have to login to check).

The smoldering ashes are also available to everyone whether you purchase the battle pass or not. There's not much in the way of free cosmetics but you do get the ashes to level up. Nobody is restricted from them.

I mentioned that in my post, my issue is that putting it into the battle pass at all seems like a bad sign for future seasons. They could just as easily have it only rewarded for completing the seasonal objectives or as a secondary experience bar like in D3.

Blizzard has repeatedly stated that there will be no microtransactions for anything except cosmetics.

Could they change their minds down the road? Well sure, they can do what they want obviously, but the level of backlash for that kind of move would be truly epic indeed.

My bad. I read it wrong, I thought you were saying that you could buy the ranks and get the smoldering ashes right away.

Yea this team has been true to their word across the board so far, but as we saw with Overwatch if the teams leadership starts changing up then we need to be aware of a reversal

You probably only need to worry if they make you re-download the same game as Diablo IV 2.

Or Diablo 420.

So, this weekend, 3 household members (my wife, son and I) installed and played Diablo IV together. It was glorious, until one of us (me) clicked through the dialogue instead of listening to the voice acting.

Cue outrage by my wife and son, especially the later; he decided he would experience single player and clear the storyline solo! He's still keen to play together co-op but we'll have to set ground rules like no skipping cutscenes or dialogue for Act 2 and onwards.

I had trouble settling on a particular class, so I've got an early 20s Rogue and a late 20s Sorceror; my wife has a 30s Necromancer. Boy is playing Barbarian, I think he's early 20s as well.

I'd like to join the GWJ Xbox clan if there's any platform distinction.
Did a quick search of GWJ, GamersWithJobs and simply "Jobs" but came up empty.

My first character was a Druid. I kind of wish I saved it for the season. It was fun to play. I pretty much went Wearbear for all the skills.

I think Vargen was quoted in a video on youtube?...

Yeah that was me. I'm not sure why that bit of snark took off, but it did.

And yes, I know I said I stopped paying attention to the D4 subreddit. But the algorithm keeps putting posts from it in my feed anyway.

Can't make the mass Diablo audience happy. One cadre calls D3 too colorful. Another cadre calls D4 too monotonous.

I like 'em both.

I must admit, though, I would be happier with a wee bit more color and one more biome in D4. A few more armor sets that don't look like they were designed by an angsty teenaged art student would be nice, too.

(sorry I veered into hot take territory there at the end...)
