Welcome folks, and happy Halloween! You may all celebrate by checking out all the spooky, scary and downright horrible games coming out this week and being glad that other holidays don’t get themed games so much. Christmas games? Eww.

Afterparty is by the Oxenfree devs. It’s set in Hell and you guide a pair of dead college-age drinking buddies through a booze-filled gabfest. Going by the very Double-Fine-lookin’ gameplay, Hell is lots of talking and minigames. The upside is, you don’t have to do it sober. Different beverages unlock different dialogue options and abilities to help you succeed. You basically have to schmooze your way out of the Underworld by drinking everyone under the table. It’s all set to music by the guy who did the fantastic Sword & Sworcery soundtrack. One of the listed features is simply, “Flirt with Satan”.

Xeno Crisis is a port of the Sega Megadrive 16-bit twinstick shooter. The weird part is that the Sega Megadrive version of it isn’t out yet – it’s funded by a Kickstarter with a pledge to release it soon on cartridge and as a downloadable ROM file.

If you want the horror of crippling anxiety about having too many tasks, too little time, and not knowing what order to do things in, there’s Harvest Moon: Mad Dash. it’s a spin-off with the very familiar Harvest Moon activities of catching fish, harvesting crops and milking cows, but also with very unfamiliar restraints of two-minute timers and high score chases. It’s co-op, which could make it better or worse.

The Switch is bringing some scary games of yesteryear: Victorian-era vampire RPG Vampyr and Resident Evil 5 & 6. You can get Resident Evil 4, too, in the Resident Evil Triple Pack.

The best bit about Halloween is experiencing it with the kids, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 encapsulates that spirit. It also allows you to literally encapsulate spirits with Luigi’s trusty, ghostbustin’ Poltergust. Luigi’s in a haunted hotel looking for Mario, and the combination of exploration, traversal puzzles and ghost-hoovering on offer looks like a delightful romp for all ages. This is the week of Luigi.

Got Afterparty pre-ordered. After Oxenfree, Nightschool have my trust as far as ludonarrative goes.

Afterparty, woot woot!

LM3 looks like more LM, which is fine for others. My kid saw it in the Target Christmas ad thing and went "$59.99 for Luigi's Mansion?!? For that price I'd definitely rather get Mario Maker 2." Glad to see he's got his priorities straight as far as cost/benefit of video games.

Luigi's Mansion on Halloween is so perfect

Well apparently he's smarter than me. I freaking loved Luigi's Mansion 1 & 2.

If he knew that Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon cost us $40 he probably would've had the same reaction.

This kid is of the Minecraft generation, so any game that costs more than Minecraft, but gives less breadth of gameplay seems like a loss.
