Playstation 5 Catch-All

It’s a bit odd but apparently it’s on PS Plus day one.

Can't wait! The demo was fantastic and the game played perfectly in VR.

That was a PS2 era trailer. Loved it.

This months 'Edge' magazine has a long article about 'Humanity'. After reading it, I'm still unclear about whether Humanity is a game (as we would normally understand it) or more of a VR experience. Of course, that may not matter...

Certainly, 'Lemmings' comparisons seem apt at this stage. I'll keep an eye on the reviews.

The demo that was available felt pretty robust, it let you play a handful of levels and illustrated some of the basic concepts. Based on that it is very much a puzzle game with a similar level of complexity to Lemmings. Assuming the mechanics continue to layer over the course of the available levels I suspect there'll be plenty of fun puzzling to do.

I'm still struggling with the PS5 controller causing pain at the base of my left thumb. This seems to radiate out into my forearm and can cause my other fingers to feel very stiff. It's gotten bad enough that I had to stop playing any games with a controller for a while, book into physio, and stop playing guitar.

I've been feeling pretty fine after a lengthy break, but the pain started right back up after an hour of RE4 last night. While I'm still trying to rule out external factors, the pain hitting me so quickly after playing makes me believe it may very well be related to the PS5 controller.

But...There just doesn't seem to be a suitable alternative right now. The official alternative is incredibly pricey, and the current third-party products all have major downsides (and are also pricey). I've heard you can use a PS4 controller, but only for PS4 games played on PS5! Damn! I was hoping to connect my 8BitDo Pro 2, but that doesn't seem possible either.

Coming here desperately looking for some alternatives or suggestions.
--------------------------

Quick edit with more details in the rare chance somebody else has experienced this. Far too much detail, but I'm at my wit's end so you get the full rant.

Pain is located here and further up into the brachioradialis (though this could very much be from guitar playing. Working with my physio to diagnoses the cause)

IMAGE(https://i.imgur.com/lyFb2Km.png)

No tingling or numbness, so carpal tunnel has been ruled out. The initial diagnosis was De Quervain's tenosynovitis, but the Finkelstein test didn't seem to indicate I had an issue here. Wearing a thumb brace has not helped, and neither have anti-inflammatories. We're currently trying some more regular resistance training to strengthen my shoulers/elbows/forearms etc. since I've had months away from the gym. The thinking behind this being that hypermobile elbows may be causing issue with my hand muscles/tendons.

RE4 isn't particilarly fast or twitchy, right? I had thumb trouble after getting back into Rocket League heavily. Is the pain happening when you move the left stick all the way to the upper right? If so, can you "choke up" a bit so you're not reaching so far? Have you tried a silicone skin to see if that changes your grip angle enough to be comfortable?

I will say I invested in the DualSense Edge and I love it. The shape is different and doesn't bother my pinky like the base model does. Plus the custom profiles and extra buttons have come in handier than I expected.

Remote Play may let you use a DS4, even for PS5 games. "PS5 Remote Play" is apparently an app on PS4, too?

Not really. Plus, it's all the left-hand controlling movement. I suspect I have more tension in this arm as I'm constantly moving the stick or holding a position, whereas the aiming/right stick is more sporadic and touched lightly (i.e, not pressing down to run). The pain occurs slowly over time, not in relation to any specific movement.

A silicone skin might be enough of a change to help, but I'm also cautious that it'd make the controller (slightly) bigger and therefore more difficult to hold. Though that's reminded me that stick extenders exist and they may change the angle enough to provide some relief...Or make the problem worse. Hard to say

It's a shame the DualSense Edge is so pricey. It's almost half the price of the whole console!

Well...That's frustrating. I didn't know that was an option. Ideally, I'd like to play games on my nice big TV without any lag, but this may be a good way to test the PS4 controller. It does raise the question of why I can't just use a PS4 controller to play PS5 games though! Adaptive triggers are the only real limitation I can see, but I'd rather just put up with that and use the controller instead of not being able to use it at all!

Just a quick heads up shop to.net are 20 percent off psn cards at the moment which made for a cheaper Diablo preorder for me. Think I’ll go again to get a cheap ps plus in the current sale.

By chance do you sleep with your arms above your head? I was getting sleeping nerves & pain due to that some years back. Some physio helped me resolve that nerve issue & reducing arms above head sleeping.

I get dull pain in that same wrist area, that causes a stiffness, that my doctor chalked up to RSI. What helps me is laying off long sessions of gaming, sometimes using a vertical mouse, and sleeping with a wrist brace. The PC and Switch (undocked) are the main causes for me.

PlayStation’s first Remote Play dedicated device, PlayStation Portal remote player, to launch later this year at $199.99

*if it is that cheap, and streams well I will buy one. It would be great to play PS5 games other than on the TV.

PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house. PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi**, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal. PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller. It also includes a 3.5mm audio jack for wired audio. PS VR2 games, which require the headset, and games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium’s cloud streaming, are not supported.***

This seems like such a waste. Sony would be better off just supporting Backbone and the PS5 apps on Apple/Android app stores. Especially at that price point.

No Bluetooth? If it doesn't support cloud play does it support remote play outside the house? Because I've done the with my phone and my laptop multiple times.

Really seems like a waste. Does anyone that has a PS5 not have a smartphone too? A Dualsense grip phone clip would be a more useful gadget by far

PlayStation Portal: Hands On With Sony's New Remote Play Handheld

The lack of bluetooth for wireless headsets is ridiculous. Their hardware decisions outside of their main consoles continue to be baffling.

I don't understand why everyone says to use a phone with a controller attachment when you can't use your phone for anything else while playing, the only supported attachment for PlayStation runs $100, and you have to remember to bring it with you anyway. The usable display on a modern phone in landscape is well under 3" with pillars when playing games and what they're showing will make full use of its 8" screen, show an image over an inch taller, and have full-sized sticks and triggers.

The more I think about it the more I like it. It seems like a great cheap (relatively) way to be able to play my PS5 from the hammock or bed, or anywhere at home.

Will you be using wired headphones? Or buying the special Sony ones?

A long time ago I bought Corsair HS50 Pros which I plug into the controller so that my family doesn't have to listen to my games. It seems like they will work with great with project Q.

I do find it annoying that it doesn't have bluetooth built in though. It just should in today's market.

Man that makes me just want a Vita 2.0. I love my Vita.

Fair. And I won't rip on anyone buying one (Thor knows I've bought worse things that sat unused).

But for me, I think it's the price point to use case. For $250, I would expect closer to a Vita2.0 (100% with you bbk). Now if it turns out the PSP2.0 can do more than just stream from the PS5, I'll totally get the appeal.

And all I keep thinking is this...

Me too. I really loved that thing.

If it was $149 I’d buy it just for the convenience of being able to easily stream since right now it’s a hassle no matter what I try.

I really don't get all the hate - perhaps it is just Internet rage that comes to everything. For example the title of the article on Boingboing - "Sony officially unveils baffling "PlayStation Portal" handheld" I can completely understand not wanting the features but I don't recall tons of hate for other add ons. No one wrote long articles ranting about back buttons for example. The Scuff controller is as much as the PSP yet people didn't rally against it.
I get the "I don't need a way to play wirelessly via streaming". Yes many people don't. I can also see "I don't need swappable sticks and back buttons" Yet one of these things is being ripped by folks and one is (or was it has been out awhile) praised.

For me and my partner it is worth it. We play a few games together that don't support split screen (like Genshin Impact) and I hate yelling downstairs to her, or over my phone just to coordinate what we are doing. It will be nice to be able to sit on the couch next to her while we are in game. Or if I just want to be in the room playing in parallel while she's doing her own thing. This device is definitely not for the folks who don't have a use for it, but I'm super glad it's coming out.
