My TV suddenly stopped showing the picture of my PS5 via both HDMI inputs, but the sound works fine. First, I thought the problem was the HDMI of my PS5 because using other devices (Switch, Macbook Pro M1) worked without any hiccups. Then I tried to use my old PS4 Pro: Same issues as before with the PS5. It would be quite a coincidence if both PS HDMIs stopped working at the same time, wouldn’t it? (I tried all the solutions found online from safe mode to using different HDMI cables) Is there anything that might set the signals sent by the Sony devices apart from the other HDMI devices tested? Those inputs are in the same board in the unit so that makes sense actually. Time for a TV upgrade!
Maybe the TV's HDCP is broken?
Just to confirm- Other devices hooked up to the HDMI port on your TV where you had your PS5 connected work, right?
Do you have another display you could connect the PS5 to?

Doubling-down on this line of thought: Is it a smart TV? If so, try doing a system update - might be that the HDCP digital certificate your TV is holding has expired and needs to be updated.
The TV is almost exactly 10 years old… so no smart functions. It can’t connect to the internet….
I had not even heard of HDCP signals before.
Yes, the other devices worked with the port that doesn’t work with the playstations. Sadly, I haven’t had the chance to test this with other displays yet, as the TV is the only one with HDMI input in our home.

Definitely time to upgrade to a 4K!
Thanks for PS online information, I have to pass this info to an old gamer.
I've done it, I've put down £699.99 on a PS5 Pro off PS Direct. I'm heavily invested in the PlayStation ecosystem & really wanna play the likes of GTA 6, Assassin's Creed Shadows & Ghost Of Yotei at their absolute best.
I'll sell my PS5 when I transfer all my save data over, that should help with the crazy cost of this thing. The FFVII Rebirth upgrade really swung me on how potentially transformative some games can be on the Pro.

Verrrrrry jealous enjoy it!

I knew you would, buddy. Enjoy it!

Yeah, I'm also pretty heavily invested in the ecosystem and like it. We have several years before a PS6, and I am someone who super hates selecting between a quality or performance mode. This box is made for me. It'll get me much closer to my PCs performance which isn't fantastic (3080), and I prefer the slick console experience.
I ordered a 2 TB M.2 drive and actually got an external 5 TB drive so I can just archive games on that in anticipation. The pro will go in my office and the PSVR2 will stay there. The regular PS5 will stay out in the living room.
Cheers folks! Stele you know me too well
Tuffalo the one game were I did notice the obvious difference between quality & performance modes was Spiderman 2. On the visual setting at 30fps New York just looked more detailed, sharper, probably a higher resolution too but I just couldn't trade the feeling of that silky smooth 60fps gameplay. Even the 40fps with VRR was noticably worse on the responsiveness.
Guerilla even talked about Horizon Forbidden West basically matching or surpassing the quality mode on PS5 at double the frame rate, that's pretty crazy considering that's one of the best looking games out there.
If devs are getting these type of upgrades out of the hardware this early on I think over the course of the next few years I'll get my money's worth.
I’ve actually had some second thoughts about my preorder the past few days. I think they’re mostly productive thoughts, though, since it isn’t an amount of money to spend frivolously.
I don’t think I’ll cancel it ultimately because I also primarily play on Playstation (with a side of Nintendo). I don’t have a gaming PC and don’t intend to ever buy a gaming PC at least until I can easily hook one up to a television like a console. I already spend 8 hours a day seated in front of a monitor so no way am I going to increase that time by gaming in the same position. BUT if my circumstances were different, I would likely already have invested the cost of a Pro (plus disc drive and stand) or more in a gaming PC.
On the other hand, I tend to be a year or two behind the latest releases and I don’t know how many games I’ll get to between now and the PS6 release that will really benefit from the Pro.
Prince of Persia's DLC Mask Of Darkness is basically it's version of Shadow Of The Erdtree to the base game. Crazy hard platforming challenges, really tough enemies (for the most part) & a lot of your upgrades from the base game stripped away (no amulets, lose your double jump, health back to the bare minimum etc).
It's a short experience but I'm surprised at how well they've implemented new traversal mechanics. The game continues to be a platforming master class, the design makes for almost demonic sections that will test your mettle again & again. There was one particular section that houses a +1 upgrade to your health potions that is one of the hardest challenges I've did since The White Palace in Hollow Knight.
The Mask Of Darkness is for the hardcore players but it makes one of the best games this year even better. I'm on the last boss now.
So after clocking Elden ring base game mini bbk has moved onto demons souls I think he’s in for a shock due to how much more difficult it is but watching someone else play the remake reminds me just how good it is.
Edit. Wrong thread.
Earlier today, I got an alert from Slick Deals that Best Buy had a couple of PS5s (original "fat", disc versions) for sale - open-box excellent condition for $360 after tax. I was able to snag one for $240 out the door after trading in my PS4!
I have a pretty good idea of the PS exclusives but what do you guys consider to be must play games. What do I christen it with?
Got these to be ready for the pro when it shows up.

Astro's Playroom and then Astrobot.
After that, Demon's Souls remake is super slick and Horizon Forbidden West if you like open world collect-athon checklist games.
I'd say Spider-Man 2. Maybe the most fun I've had on PS5
Definitely the Astros games and Demons Souls for me first and Returnal for sure.

So, luckily my PS5 is not broken and I invested in a nice 4K TV with 120hz… ooooh la la… you don’t know what you’ve missed until you know. Zipping through New York in Spider-Man 2 with that is quite the experience
I am one of those who has yet to experience that

Same. My PS5 is plugged into a 60" LG 1080p Plasma from 2011. Still looks good.
I have a 50" 4k Phillips up in the game room that never gets turned on. The kid didn't need it when he went off to boot camp. I'd rather have the size than the resolution in the living room.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Looking forward to playing those and will probably also pick up Stellar Blade, Pacific Drive and Black Myth.
whoops

Reminder that the LE PS5 Slim Anniversary console and matching controller and the regular PS5 Pro go on sale today at most retailers. I believe this starts at 10:00 Eastern in the US. Pages are already up on most sites.
Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is one of the free PS+ games this month.
I heard it was a VN with a twist, some 4th wall stuff. So I tried it without any further spoilers.
WTF have I got into? This game is f*cking wild.
Is there a thread somewhere? Search is kinda broken for GWJ but I'd like to talk more about this somewhere.
