Playstation 5 Catch-All

I think this all points to my thoughts that the ps6 will probably be the last games console under my telly. After that I think we will all be locked into streaming services in ten years a trend I do not personally look forward to. My partner would disagree as she prefers not to have the clutter.

Well, the PS5 Pro was supposed to be the start of my PS5 gaming just as the PS4 Pro was the beginning of the PS4 era in my house.
The already high price, plus the 100 € EU surcharge, PLUS NO BUILT IN DISC DRIVE!!! have guaranteed that my money will be going exclusively to the PC and Switch markets for a good while longer.

...and also, I won't be playing College Football '25 anytime soon, even though I own it.
And it apparently put the final nail in the coffin for my plans to own a PSVR 2.

I was really looking forward to the visual/performance upgrades for many of my PS4 games.

Over the last couple of weeks, I've been playing visual novels on my PS Vita, while in bed. I'm coming round to the idea that - for less frenetic games - this might just be the way to play video games in one's 50s. It might also be a way of squeezing in the extra hour here and there that allows me to work my way down my pile. Particularly now that I have Unicorn Overlord and 13 Sentinels on their way.

Of course, this means biting the bullet on the PlayStation Portal. Are any fellow GwJers able to offer advice about using the Portal from the supine position? I'll be two floors above my PS5. Is this likely to cause issues in terms of wi-fi reception?

I realise, of course, that this is the slipperiest of slopes and that I risk taking to my bed like Charlie Bucket's family in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.

I use my phone sometimes. My laptop whenever we travel. Can't play action games very well, like, CFB 25 in game. But anything turn based, or CFB 25 recruiting, or visual novels, yes. They all play great

This is pretty much where I'm at with it. I may just build a mid tier PC at this point as much as I hate dealing with components, drivers, software, etc.

Nothing to see here, move along.

So the PS5 Pro is literally just a GPU bump? CPU and Ram are exactly the same?

RAM is 28% faster, 576GB/s vs 448

I think it also increases the storage to 2TB.

Which a lot of us have already done by adding a nice Samsung M2

And that's just getting cheaper. I don't see the storage being a selling point imo.

TLDR: Comparable image quality to graphics mode at a more stable 60 FPS than performance mode on the original hardware. I am doubtful this kind of improvement will be present in most games, as Rebirth looked surprisingly bad in performance mode, but it is indeed night and day here.

Edit: This makes me wonder why they didn't show this comparison in the PS5 Pro presentation. Perhaps Square didn't want Sony trashing the visuals of their game in an official showcase.

Introducing the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection
*look it comes in gray!

That hit me right in the nostalgia.

Looks interesting, I wonder what the pricing will be. *prepares lube* Here's more info about what's included.

This news complicates my decision even more - PS5 slim, PS5 digital (+drive), PS5 Pro (+drive), PS5 Slim anniversary edition, PS5 Pro anniversary edition (+drive). I should just build a PC...

I am continually tempted by a portal. That little beauty might push me over the edge....

Same, but I bet the price is going to hit even harder.

They might get me for a controller though.

I may grab an Elite controller finally because those colors look fantastic. Especially the classic button symbols

I really like mine. I guess the only thing I'd recommend is making sure it would be of use to you. Like I was hoping to use it when I visited my parents. I didn't think about how crummy their wireless is at their house is, how crummy their wireless is when everyone in the house is using their phone/computer/tablet and adding on a game streaming machine which requires pretty decent bandwidth.

I'll buy that anniversary pro version if I can, but I highly doubt I'll be able to be one of the lucky few. Very cool.

I'd like one of those controllers but prices and scalpers will probably prevent that from happening.

Does it come in that yellowing grey they all turn into over time to look retro aged?

I think my use case is at home when mrs bbk is using the big telly so actual streaming only over my own network

I enjoyed my Portal while I had one but since I could do the same thing with the Steam Deck I just never used it.

Any idea how to preorder this? Is there a website already for the 26th?

Playstation Direct on the 26th, everywhere else on Oct 10th.

Hmmm, I wonder what time the preorder will go live on direct.playstation.com. i was gonna get a pro anyways, so this 30th version is just too nice not to at least try. If I can't get a preorder in through that, I won't bother elsewhere and grab a pro whenever I can find a regular one. Might try and preorder the 30th edge controller at least if I can't get the bundle.

Like all of these things, follow CAG, Wario, and others on Twitter. Will get notifications ASAP that day.

If it's anything like PS5 was back in 2020, there will be a queue.

The consensus rumored price for the Pro bundle seems to be $999.

That would be my minimum guess.
