Playstation 5 Catch-All

I’m definitely still wondering how worth it the upgrade would be for me. Very few games I’ve played on my PS5 seem to be even utilizing what the base model is capable of.

They’d have to be fools to charge $600-$700 for it, but they’ve done it in the past so I guess we’ll see.

I don’t see myself upgrading to the Pro this time. In the short term, I don’t have the money for it. In the long term, the price hikes for PS+ have caused me to start buying and playing more on the PC so I’m starting to be less invested in that ecosystem, especially for games with any kind of online multiplayer aspect.

Astro looks great but I wasn’t planning to get it day one anyway. Dragon Age Veilguard will be my last AAA purchase this year and there are a lot of big RPGs I’m trying to finish off my backlog in the meantime.

I have too many cheap disc games for PS4 and PS5 to bother upgrading to a disc less pro system for now.

Maybe there will be a cheap bundle with disc drive in a couple years

That's my issue also. Need a disc drive.

No disc drive hasn’t been confirmed right? Or technically any details yet. Not saying I’ll be shocked if there’s not one of course.

The PS5 Pro is firmly in rumor territory for now. Nothing has been announced, so take everything you see about it now with a grain of salt.

Yeah the stuff I saw said digital only model with $80 disc drive add on sold separately.

Rumors sure but blah

If I recall correctly, PS4 Pro was announced in Sept and released the following Nov. Seems like this might be a similar schedule.

If you are planning on getting Astro Bot, you might want to get the hidden bots they added to Astro's Playroom. I found this guide useful.

Just read that Concorde is shutting down after two weeks after attracting less than 1k concurrent players. That must really hurt the devs I didn’t think the reviews were even that bad but I guess being ok in a market as crowded as that is a death sentence.

Hopefully they can come up with a way to give the game life but it’s hard to imagine how. I gave it a go but wasn’t into it. I bounced off Overwatch almost instantly though so I was probably a lost cause from the start.

Keep all the characters but turn the game into a Guardians of the Galaxy-esque story-based action adventure game, like the initial trailer led us all to believe it would be.

That would probably be the best way. I wonder if Sony would be willing to invest the amount of money and time required to do that.

I doubt that it's possible to turn this online shooter into offline action game, except at staggering expense. Others with more expertise will be able to comment authoritatively, but one is not simply a cut-down version of the other.

I think the best that Sony can aim for is to go way, boost the in-game purchases element of the game, and then relaunch the Concord as a Free-To-Play in a couple of months. But even then the financial projections may well indicate that it makes more sense to write it off for tax purposes. There is no guarantee that it will make back its development, marketing and running costs as a Free-To-Play. When one is in a hole, etc, etc.

I posted this on the 'Business and Financial Instability' thread, but I saw a review video on The Guardian a couple of weeks ago and the 'hot take' take that I posted in response was this:

I have a couple of thoughts about Concord.

First, I wonder whether Concord is coming to market just a little bit too late. Overwatch was launched eight years ago, and Apex Legends celebrated its fifth birthday earlier this year. But I've not seen or heard much buzz about the 'hero shooter' of late, beyond expressions of dismay about Overwatch 2.

Is there still air left in the hero shooter balloon?

Second, the trailer in the article revealed a fairly cookie-cutter product, lacking a little in soul. The arenas looked like - well - arenas rather than real places (I thought Apex Legends really got this right). And the heroes look and sound like 'Guardians of the Galaxy' knock-offs - staying just the right side of an IP lawsuit.

I suspect that Sony has a Battleborn on their hands rather than an Apex...

Virtually impossible. That was mostly just me being bitter at feeling misled by the trailer.

I’ll be surprised if it comes back in any form. People have suggested retooling it as F2P but that still requires enough people to invest in whatever monetization model they come up with. More people may try it than those that were willing to spend $40 but it seems unlikely that enough people would be willing to spend to make it profitable.

I'm not surprised Concord is getting the plug pulled since it came so late to the party and it cost money. I enjoyed Battleborn more than Overwatch - which even now I still can't really get into Overwatch. I gave up on Apex because of the rampant cheating after playing it pretty much every day for 3 years.

I hope Concord could come back, but it certainly will suck even more for the devs that it probably won't unless Sony decides to spend the money and change things. I enjoyed what I played in the Beta, but the only modes I had unlocked were what you would expect. There definitely wasn't enough there to widen the market with something new and interesting.

Damn, that's a beefy score. I'm inching closer to a PS5 purchase.

So happy for Team Asobi, they are just brimming with creativity & I cannot wait to see the stuff they pull off with the dual sense. Amazing on the metacritic score!!

After watching the digital foundry review, I pre-ordered Astro Bot for tonight. Loved the VR thing and Playroom, so I'm ready for more.

There’s an official, just out of the shrink wrap Astro Bot thread.

I may wait a few weeks before you pull that trigger. #PS5pro

I'm going to do that but if the price is as high as it's sounds, I'm going with the regular version.

Nov 7.

This seems really early and really unnecessary for this generation. I don't get it

I know you can spend more on a video card but $700 is an eye watering price for a console, in my opinion.

Not for me. I have a huge enough back log without the extra horsepower. While watching I was thinking about all the PS4 games I still have to play and all the PS5 games too...

I think it has pushed me farther into being a, what would you call it - second generation gamer.

I would love it but too pricey especially with no disc drive.
