NFL 2019: Week 3

Some background on my league. It's a 12 player keeper league where you can keep 12 players. You start 9 players. 1 QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 2 flex (rb,wr,te), and one super flex (qb, rb,wr,te), team d, and k. One of the teams is a new owner. The team DtG is now named Going bankrupt on Transactions. Here is the league.

Here are the trades:

Show Me Your TD's and DeAndre the Giant have completed a trade:
Show Me Your TD's gave up Mack, Marlon IND RB and Howard, O.J. TBB TE
and DeAndre the Giant gave up Evans, Mike TBB WR and Cook, Jared NOS TE

then
DeAndre the Giant gave up Lewis, Dion TEN RB and Hopkins, DeAndre HOU WR and Njoku, David CLE TE and Show Me Your TD's gave up Rivers, Philip LAC QB and Singletary, Devin BUF RB and Cooper, Amari DAL WR
Note that this trade was before Brees got injured. Brees is the QB for DtG. He also had Jameis Winston and Case Keenum at the time so he didn't really need Rivers. (though he traded Winston away)

then
Show Me Your TD's and DeAndre the Giant have completed a trade:
Show Me Your TD's gave up Johnson, David ARI RB and Crowder, Jamison NYJ WR
and DeAndre the Giant gave up Cohen, Tarik CHI RB and Cooper, Amari DAL WR and Ross, John CIN WR

Overall, this trade taken all together looks like this:
SMYTDs gave:
Marlon Mack, OJ Howard, Rivers, Devin Singletary, David Johnson, Jamison Crowder
DtG gave: Mike Evans, Jared Cook, Dion Lewis, DeAndre Hopkins, David Njoku, Tarik Cohen, John Ross

It seems a bit off to me but I may be biased due to a previous trade that got messed up that I always felt was bs (Adrian Peterson for Keenan Allen in 2015 - peterson was 30 at the time). Our trade rules are that you can trade anyone anything unless someone complains and then owners vote. You can trade a player for a draft pick the next year. Overall, I look at each of these trades and I wouldn't have done any of them as DtG. Again, maybe I'm biased as I feel that in the keeper league you are better off building by getting the best 4 keepers and you never give up a guy like Hopkins.
Anyway, I thought I'd get some other opinions and there's a bit of a lull for the next few days. Thanks for looking.

My Dad and I looked for some Thursday Night Football, but evidently the games were only airing on NFL Network, which we do not have. Seemed pretty strange since we can usually get at least one game on CBS, NBC, or Fox.

I guess it says something that we didn't watch the Flyers game currently airing.

They only play one game for TNF unless it's opening week. If it's a home team they will air it on a local network otherwise it's NFL network only. Same goes for MNF with ESPN.

They have them on Amazon Prime streaming too right?

Oh yeah, I always forget that. I don't think it was available fore the first week though. It did come in handy a few years ago to watch a Pats game when I was in Aguas Calientes (The town at the base of Machupicchu)

Starting next week.

Gardner Minshew has the highest first 3 games passer rating of any post-merger rookie QB.

Here you go Legion. 186 5 star reviews!

The Jags didn't exactly tear it up in the second half now did they?

My god Mariota isn't good. I mean, maybe the Jags D had something to do with it. But he missed a lot of throws that seemed pretty easy. And if keeps holding onto the ball like that, Andrew Luck is going to want to clear off the other twin bed in his room at the Old Quarterbacks Home.

(It's funny because I suspect Luck is kinda cheap and wouldn't spring for a private room.)

Minshew is efficient. He saves the tearing up for the bedroom.

Playing with a lead, you have to be able to run the ball, and I think Jacksonville's median run play went for about -2 yards. Fournette is a problem, and the team didn't get a true 3rd down back in the offseason, nor will they give rookie Ryquell Armstead any carries for who knows what reason.

It's what he does. There's a joke floating around Twitter and the like that Mariota is the 5th or 6th best QB in the AFC South. And the people making that joke aren't even including $wag!

What happened to Mariota? Too many sacks? Just not developed properly? Bad team around him? Or was he just always this?

I am always intrigued by guys, especially QBs, who come into the league seeming to have all the tools and never amounting to much.

Let's give some context:

1. Gardner Minshew: 110.6
2. Marcus Mariota: 110.3
3. Carson Wentz: 103.8
4. Robert Griffin III: 103.5
5. Jim Kelly: 99.8

This one's pretty iffy, it comes down to whether or not you think OJ Howard is a long-term top 5 tight end. I definitely saw him ranked that way for keeper/dynasty leagues going into this season. I would not take this deal.

then
DeAndre the Giant gave up Lewis, Dion TEN RB and Hopkins, DeAndre HOU WR and Njoku, David CLE TE and Show Me Your TD's gave up Rivers, Philip LAC QB and Singletary, Devin BUF RB and Cooper, Amari DAL WR

Yeah, no. Not by a long shot. Rivers is mid-tier QB with pretty much no keeper value. Singletary is yet another young back watching Frank Gore do all the work, and given it's not a full-on dynasty league, he might not show enough in year 1 to be able to keep, even if he does eventually develop into a fantasy starter.

Show Me Your TD's gave up Johnson, David ARI RB and Crowder, Jamison NYJ WR

LOL, "well I downgraded from Hopkins and Evans to Cooper, might as well throw Cooper away too!". Who the hell is this guy playing at WR now? John Ross might be in the middle of his breakout.

Better than Mariota, better than the guy Foles backed up (therefore better than Foles), and better than $wag's Hall of Fame uncle (therefore better than $wag). And Watson doesn't even make the list! Minshew the true king of the AFC South.

Jags owner Shad Khan has let it be known that he is willing to pay Jalen Ramsey the big bucks. It sounds like he's looking to smooth things over with Ramsey until the offseason.

Meanwhile, during the TV broadcast, Buck and Aikman played up the "this could be Ramsey's last game as a Jag" thing for all it was worth, and showed complete cluelessness about the situation. Aikman repeatedly brought up how he thought it was strange that the Jags were playing Ramsey, risking injury that could hurt his trade value. I yelled at the TV, "the Jags don't WANT to trade him, you moron!" Ramsey asked for the trade, the Jags weren't shopping him. If he got hurt and killed his trade value, that would almost be a help to the Jags, delaying things and allowing time to cool heads.

Jacksonville Jaguars' Gardner Minshew did 'damn near anything' to lengthen college football career

The Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew would do “damn near anything” to play more football, revealing during an interview this week that he attempted to break his own hand during his college football days.

...

“It was my first year there, I had went there from junior college and the situation was I had two seniors above me and I was hoping to go in and redshirt and be able to play three [years], it was an awesome setup,” he began.

Minshew said early on into the season, the team’s quarterback was out with a concussion after they had already moved the backup to running back — meaning he was up next.

But the following game the starter was back, meaning Minshew had essentially thrown away a year of eligibility on half a football game.

“I was pretty pissed and, man, I started kinda looking around at what I could, what my options were and the only thing I could do would be to get a medical redshirt but if I played in this next game then that would be off the table”

That’s when Minshew said he “got an idea.”

“I go home, I grab a bottle of Jack Daniels and I grab a hammer and I go back into my room,” he recalled. “I take a pull of Jack Daniels and put my hand down on the table and BOOM, BOOM, BOOM … I hit the hell outta my hand.”

Shaking, Minshew realized the hand was still not broken.

“I take another pull, one, two, three again, still nothing and I'm just shaking at this point, man, but I knew it wasn't broken. So one more time, another pull, another three hits and that was all I could take.”

“I couldn’t break my own hand,” he said laughing.

Minshew said he had a swollen hand for a few weeks and told his coaches that he had closed it in a car door.

Patriots cut Antonio Brown.

Nice $9m signing bonus for 1 game played.

Wonder if they'll be able to recoup any of that based on what's going on. Not that I want the Patriots to have more money, I'd just like that repugnant dickwad to have less money.

Did he sprint out the back door again when he found out?

Nahhhh they deserve what they are getting for jumping all over him so quick.

Maybe happy medium still counts as a hit and the money ends up in NFL charity limbo.

It's possible. One thing I noticed on Spotrac is that his $9m bonus is set to be paid in two chunks, the second one being in 2020. Might be that they wiggle out of that payment. The $4.5m first payment, though, is in AB's bank account and unlikely to get returned.

Spotrac currently lists the second $4.5m as dead money on their 2020 cap, and I could see a dispute over that payment being a story next spring.

I laughed.

Meanwhile, Cam is officially out for Week 3, so we'll have Kyle (not Josh) Allen this week against ARI.

True fact: Kyle Allen lost his starting QB job at Texas A&M to ...

... yep, Kyler Murray.

What a weird world we live in.

I couldn't read the link. I'm on Android and the site tries to make me install an untrusted APK for a "browser update" (guaranteed to be malware), so pretty much screw that site. Even made it past Pi-hole ad blocking.
