Welcome folks, and happy “43rd Anniversary of the Space Shuttle reveal” week! You may all celebrate by remembering when folks spoke of space travel as a two-way journey, then replaying the Aztec Complex level in Goldeneye 007 with the stolen space shuttle.

If last week’s release list was like the first buds of spring, this one is like a spring cold snap reminding you that winter isn’t totally done. Staring into a week like this makes me envy the fans of Mundane Simulators; they get something new every week!

LEGO Jurassic World continues the LEGO games’ romp through the entire catalogue of kid-friendly movie franchises. Call me when they get to LEGO Mars Needs Moms. There are so many now, no one could possibly play all of them. I’m guessing folks duck in and out of the series based on what title sparks joy in the 6-year-old responsible for the spending decisions of their household.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a revamped version of an already-remastered game that originally came out on GameBoy in 1993. It was then remastered and colorized for the DX in 1998. The DX version had a new in-game camera to couple with the GameBoy printer (because every kid in the 90s wanted their own printer). Thus was born the first in-game photo mode. Link’s Awakening was also playable on the DS from 2011 as part of that system’s Virtual Console. All of this is to say: it’s not a long-forgotten Zelda game making its way to the Switch, but rather a well-loved one. New features include a dungeon designer, which is Zelda trying to do Mario Maker, but looks like it needs a few patches before it becomes anywhere near as functional or fun of a creator.

Niffelheim is a 2D, side-scrolling, crafting/survival game in a Viking setting. When it came out on PC in October 2018, it was more or less ignored, not even garnering enough reviews to get a Metascore. The few who did review it said that it looked pretty, but the combat was one-button dull and crafting was a grindy chore. So, naturally, it gets ported to all the consoles. Buyer beware.

AI: The Somnium Files is an investigation-adventure game set in a near-future, high-tech Tokyo. You play a detective investigating a series of murders in which the victims have all lost their left eye. Because this is videogames, your character is also missing a left eye, replaced by a robotic one that gives you the tutorial, your HUD, and investigative powers. Because this is Japanese videogames, you also visit the dream worlds of suspects during the game’s Somnium phases. While there’s a branching story with multiple endings based on your choices, you only get the FULL story if you play through all the different branches. However, with a nod of respect to players’ time, once you’ve finished once, the game allows you to skip directly to the various branching points in the story to explore other possibilities. If only games like Fire Emblem Three Houses would do the same.

The only all-platform release this week is Rebel Cops]. Apparently the turn-based combat in This Is The Police 2 was so popular, the devs spun it off into its own game. You play as the few good cops in a barrel full of bad apples. Details of the actual combat mechanics are sketchy, but the maps will be large, there will be stealth elements, and the combat will be unforgiving since no one has HP and a single shot can take them out. The price, length, and complexity of Rebel Cops puts it in the same middleweight division as Mutant Year Zero.

Speaking of mid-tier, tactical, turn-based combat, Overland finally hits full release after 3 years in Early Access. A dad, his daughter, and their doggo are road-trippin’ across America during a post-apocalypse. When they get to a proc-gen location, they need to look around, grab what they can, and get out before they are overwhelmed. There’s no hanging around to wipe the map for bonus XP. It’s a roguelike with an autumnal, Kentucky Route Zero-lookin’ art style. One key concern is keeping the car topped up with gas, else the family get stranded in no-persons’ land. Sounds like a fleshed-out rendition of when you get the Highwayman in Fallout 2, which gently nudges it past my reluctance with roguelikes and onto the GOTW podium.

uznali ? soglasnbI ?

Whelp, someone did it. They straight up hit random letters on the keyboard and called it a day.

Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son

I can't believe this game exists.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered

Level-5, you just don't make good choices, do you? You're releasing your remaster in the busiest part of the year so that it's passed on by many in favor of the real new shinies.

Comparing this to the 2003 post that just popped up (spam I guess?) is interesting to me. There are more single day PC releases here, or multiple days, than that entire week's list across all platform that were deemed worthy at the time. Hard-core FOMO action.

Puzzle Quest and Untitled Goose Game are definite buys for me. Interested in Ni no Kuni but damn my backlog is quite large...
