First official new opening! Congrats!

Thanks for asking about Ray Tracing Amanda and Allen for the explanation. I'm so accustomed to all these terms going over my head that I didn't even think to look it up. Just knowing that it's a system to track the journey of light beams in a game world fills me with delight.

I'm a big Ghost Recon fan from the early games. I was entranced by levels where you would sneak very slowly through areas, moving your AI squad mates to new locations and trying to spot tiny figures patrolling or hiding in the landscape while expecting, at any moment, to be shot and killed by an unseen foe.

You can play Breakpoint all kinds of ways but, importantly, you can play it very slowly taking out unsuspecting enemies with (mostly) one or two shots. The ground camo system is a joy. I could happily lie there for many long minutes watching the world go by and waiting for the perfect moment to strike or until an oblivious patrol moves away.

World of Warcraft, for me, was a flower and herb picking simulator with a side order of auctioneering and 40 person raids. So any game, no matter how serious and militaristic, having plant gathering makes me happy.

I too enjoy spending waaaaay too long in character creators fiddling with eye width, nose bridge depth, etc.

Tom Clancy's Toilet Toss Episode 2: Bathroom Magic

My save game story:

My son DELETED MY SHEPARD!!!

I played ME1 and ME2 on the same Xbox360 that the family shared. When I went to import my saved Shepard for ME3, the save file wasn't there! There was only a single save file from ME1 from the very beginning of the game. At least I still had the customized face of my FemShep. (Inspired by Starbuck from BSG).

Thus began the long journey of importing/recreating/updating my original save file which involved tons of research, copying files from the 360 to my pc, tweaking all of the story based decisions from the first two games, lots of trial and error, and finally loading it up successfully on the PC version of ME3! Thank the gods that there were utilities that allowed all this.

When all was said and done, it was a happy ending that only cost me time and a double-dip purchase of ME3.

Bathroom Magic: Moving On sounds like an incredible title.

Now that I know a patch is coming for the base PS4 version of control. I must have it. Deal watch is a go. Any good space to follow deals?

Be the change you want to see in the world. I believe in you!

I've always associated the "Stan" graphic with an image that showed up a lot in punk and ska circles in the 90's: a cartoon of a guy in a suit and fedora (and I think a pipe?) He looked an awful lot like Stan, with the same 3/4 profile. I'm not sure who/what he was, though I always associated him with Robert Anton Wilson for some reason.

Who/whatever he was, he's disappeared into the misty past of the 90's, because I can't pull it up no matter what I google.

If you say Robert Anton Wilson and a pipe-smoking man, I think of Bob Dobbs. But his iconic portrait is just a face viewed straight on, so I'm not sure that's it.

Yup, that's it. Not as close as I remember. It's probably just the monosyballic name with the 50's aesthetic.

You're doing a great job running stuff so far, Amoebic! Show was on time and enjoyable.

I have, on more than one occasion, lost progress because I accidentally selected “load” instead of “save” and clicked through the warnings without reading them (they both ask “are you sure...?” And I only read the part before the ellipsis)

(Interstitial between unrelated topics, possibly attempting to sell you mail-order razor blades)

A few Pax’s ago I tried to make a GWJ tee shirt but the shirt printing site wouldn’t let me use the Stan logo. I tried explaining that I was a writer for the site, but they made me remove it.

I was many hours into Red Dead Redemption, had just gotten to Mexico in-game. Foolishly, I'd not used a single manual save all game long, and had been relying on the autosave.

A friend was crashing at my house for a few days, and I told him to have a go at it. He started a new game on my profile, which promptly autosaved over my 20-30 hours of save.

I not only never went back to the game, but also never played another Rockstar game since. Which is less about the save snafu and more about RDR being the game that taught me that Rockstar's design aesthetic is increasingly not for me.

Nice show this week. I am interested in Control but not enough to spend hundreds for an RTX card.

If anyone else has good time filler recommendations please post in the thread! Thanks for spotlighting it Amanda. And thanks for posting about Wilmot's in the Switch thread, I bought it immediately after seeing your post since I also love organizing and arranging things.

The Video Game Deals thread here is a good place, it is where I get my gaming deals from.

I still have one of the original official GWJ shirts in a drawer. It has been too small for me for a while but it has survived all of my clean-outs so far.

IsThereAnyDeal.com is also a fantastic website for tracking deals on PC games.

I'm here for Amoebic.
