I’d recommend watching the archived Twitch stream of this episode if you can. It’s a thing of beauty.
Safe travels Shawn. I’ll look forward to hearing about your adventures upon your return.
I hope you like thrill rides - Luis Serra, Resident Evil 4 Remake

Just watch the Twitch stream. Its great. I'm laughing and crying. Safe travels Shawn!
I’m crying at my desk at work after that one, luckily I don’t have any meetings for another 23 minutes so no one will think I’ve lost it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Shawn, and enjoy your adventure.
I gotta admit, the line that had me choked up the most was "I picked you."
...what, you thought I was only going to join in on all the *Legion* sh*tposting?
I wish you guys would stop encouraging him.

I remember wondering if the podcast could really get that lucky just randomly pulling Amoebic. It was the right call.
Best wishes and safe travels, Shawn.
I try my best to express it whenever navel gazing opportunities like this arise, but I am so, so grateful for the thing you guys have built and maintained here. It’s been my home on the internet ever since I stumbled on GWJ Radio in the earliest of iTunes podcast directories, it provided an essential place of community for both myself and Schmoona at a time in our lives where we really, really needed it (and even though she doesn’t frequent the site anymore, it still has great value to her, and she’s always excited to hear about your wild adventures), and it remains a wonderful, shining example of all the ways the internet can be good for us even in an age that feels increasingly more bound and determined to promote the ways in which it can be terrible.
So thanks again, and I’m excited to hear all about your next great adventure sometime soon.

I just wanna say that it was utterly impossible for me to listen to this episode for more than 5 minutes at a time. Had to stop. Take a heavy breath and then continue. It's been emotional. Your voice will be missed!

I'm mostly a lurker but this podcast has been part of my weekly routine for at least 12 years and Shawn's voice and guiding hand has made it a absolute pleasure. Good luck in your future endeavors, Shawn it won't be the same without you, but I will definitely continue to listen because everyone else is awesome in their own right.
You're not the only one. That had me tearing up as well.
Thank you Shawn and Sean. You created a place where those of us who often have few things in common with those around us have found our family, our clan, our people. You have created a place where we can be ourselves, and can be treated with dignity and accepted for who we are.
Thank you, and may your journeys always provide you with a moment to reflect on who you are and who you want to be.

As part of the Dome Crew it was amazing to have a small part of in this, and be able to share a few words of thanks to Shawn from the perspective of a podcast listener and forum member
Emotions were definitely running strong as a dozen of us all huddled in the basement during most of the recording watching the live stream together
A short story about how I went from watering petunias at 8 am in Western Canada to #domecrew fulfilling a bucket-list item:
Episode 302 - July 25, 2012
Episode 459 - Jul 28, 2015
Episode 673 - September 4, 2019
Starting with the chaotic ramblings from Dome-Con: Staygold, Bhchrist, our amazing host, Skraut, the eloquent Karnak (with special outro from Wayfarer)
"Just hung out for a bunch of days together - Julian"
"It takes a truly special kind of someone to dedicate their lives to helping strangers. To help them find comfort in healing and community. - Lara"
"The memory of that pizza still haunts him" - McChuck

"You were my first collaborator" - Michael
"I was still figuring out who I am, what I do, where I go, where I fit" - Sean
I'll let the wise and beautiful words of Shawn and Amanda take us out. I know "The Heart" is in the very best of hands <3

The door is always open when you're lost, the food always hot when you're hungry, a bed ready when you're weary, and the light, we'll all keep it burning bright.
Shawn's effortless words of wisdom and love
I looked for a good point to clip the audio, but Shawn's words deserved all the space he gave them, I look forward to adding his wise words to my morning reflections

I created an account here on GWJ today after listening to this podcast for many years, and after listening to this episode. The GWJ community is such a beautiful and precious thing, and I am so thankful to Shawn, Amanda, and every single person who has helped this podcast be the absolutely amazing thing that it is. I will try my best to contribute to the forums, and help contribute to and continue this welcoming, loving space that Shawn started. Really moved.
"May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
Until we meet again. "
Shawn thanks for the calls! & safe travels.
Good luck, not goodbye.

I’ve just been catching up. Where is Shawn going and for how long?
Nepal for a month or two to help the isolated communities there with health-related issues, then a monastery in New Mexico for a number of months. (6 I want to say, but don’t quote me on that. )

Thanks! A monastery like he wants to be a monk? A gamer? Who lives for electronics?
Buddhist monk, ya.

Godspeed, Shawn. Gonna be quite the year for you, especially as you're now fully committing to your NFL career. Go Eagles!
Seventeen years, eh? You raised a child. That's nuts.
Definitely not a true goodbye, you'll never be able to leave this place entirely, so I'll just put it this way:

Keeping in line with the theme of this episode I'd love to engage more with the community on a real life basis - especially on the board game front - but I'm from Berlin Germany and I guess that chapter isn't particularly strong compared to state side. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Sometimes you make your own luck
D&D and other RPG groups do a lot of their work online. Time differences may make things tricky for connecting with North America but there are European folks out there too.

Same here. Thanks for writing it for me, Skraut!

Good call. I might have to look into this. Was thinking about something more direct and personal but that also sounds like a good option.

An electric monk?
“Hacked by bourbon, maybe.” - Jonman
It's gonna be really weird not hearing you on the podcast for a while, but even if you fall off a mountain in Nepal (you better not!), your legacy is secure, Shawn.
You have done more in the first half of your life than most people do in the whole thing.
