Update: Thank you so much for taking the survey! October 19th was noticeably in the lead. I was also informed that EGX (EuroGamer Expo) is happening the weekend of the 19th, so it seems like an excellent opportunity if folks decide they want to meet up that day.

Regarding international time zones: We'll be hosting and playing games throughout the entire day and night of the 19th to give people some flexibility with planning and allowing for time zones. I'm going to -try- for a 18-hour stream that will likely be 12am to 11:59pm PST, with an assortment of folks at the helm so we can plan events in shifts.

Please feel free to start breaking off into your own planning threads. If folks are coordinating live meets, please have the contact person reach out to me if you're interested in having a phone chat with the GWJ twitch stream stream via Discord!

International Gamers With Jobs Day 2019 Survey

What is International Gamers With Jobs Day? It started with a Slap & Tickle! Two, actually.

Inspired by Rabbit-cons of years past, two gatherings of GWJers sprung forth in California and Ohio in 2010 to hang out and play games. More quickly followed and it snowballed into a worldwide celebration! Thus, International Gamers With Jobs day was born.

There were gatherings in multiple continents in October celebrating the members of this wonderful community. Some folks traveled long distances and spent many nights so they could hunker down to play games together!

It eventually grew out of practice and fell by the wayside as life came at us. We all got a little more busy, and little less connected on the forums. Things changed.

If you’ve looked at previous threads for IGWJD (International Gamers With Jobs Day), you may notice that there seems to be folks who had spent several months planning and organizing. You may also have noticed that I just proposed IGWJD this August about a date during the following October.

Revivals can sometimes be risky, and fraught with the shade of former expectations. It’s often trying to bring back lightning in a bottle. This isn’t an attempt to try and chase what it used to be. That seems a difficult road to travel.

I want to leave expectations at the door and take this opportunity to get together and celebrate the fellow GWJers we spend time with. Just a special moment on a special day that we can share in our appreciation of one another.

I’m fond of small things and new beginnings, and this is no exception! It could just be two people, getting together briefly on that day to snap a picture together to share with us on Twitter or Instagram. It could be a dozen or so people hanging out in the comfort of their own homes for 30 minutes in the Gamers With Jobs Twitch Channel that I'll be hosting! It could be several folks who manage to wrangle together some snacks and games for an evening. It could even be a slumber party in an airBnB!

I’d like a little feedback to help facilitate this process.

Here's a link to a survey that I hope can help in organizing and planning this year. If you're so inclined, please feel free to give it a spin and let me know what you think.

International Gamers With Jobs Day 2019 Survey

If you're interested in being a local GWJ organizer or host in your area, please say something in this thread to gauge interest. If one or more people answer - you’ve got a chance for a meetup! From there, create a forum thread with “IGWJD2019: City name Here” in it, and see if there’s something you can come up with together!

A few ideas if you would like to organize IGWJD activities:

-Geeky Boardgame Restaurants/Pubs
-Arcades, Barcades, Carnivals, Amusement Parks in the area
-Escape Rooms
-attend a movie or live event
-picnic in a local park (bonus points if someone busts out a hackey sack at some point)
-meet someone for tea or coffee in a public place, bring your handhelds or a quick little card game!

And PLEASE take lots of pictures! I want to see all your beautiful faces!

Jealous. I'll be in LA with family until Friday, then driving home Saturday. That sounds like a ton of fun, there, Rawk.

Awe! Bummer! Any chance that you might delay your drive home until Sunday? I would love to have you with us. There’s less traffic on Sunday anyway.

McChuck made the mistake of trying to get me to pull my own weight in setting up the Chicago meet. I think it'll still happen, though—just picking a place. (If anyone has preferences on location, I guess dump them in the Chicago catch-all.)

I'll be attending Chicago IGWD2019, whatever it becomes! I throw down the gauntlet for Chicagoland GWJers to show themselves on the Chicago Events Catch-All

Australia, NSW GWJers? Y'all out there? Coffee? Arcade/Pinball? Games? Would love to put some plans together for a Sydney meetup.

Did you get any interest in a Sydney meetup? I'm not around on the 19th but thought there'd be more of an Australian contingent. Also, doesn't have to be only the 19th right??

I want to mention that I'm interested in a CA bay area meetup.
I'd be willing to find a location and try to organize it if people are interested.

It doesn't *have* to be the 19th, we can stretch it into a whole weekend if we wanted to. If you're wanting to do it on another day all together though, go for it! This is an excuse to get people to hang out and celebrate one another, so if that's what you're all doing - mission accomplished!

Anyone else in Denver want to meet up?

No other interest, there aren't many of us Australian Goodjers it seems!

I've created a thread for the London meet up; hopefully we can organise something during EGX:

I would be interested. I was thinking of driving down to LA for the event there is nothing materialized in the bay area, but it would be preferable to do something local.

Man that is a hell of a drive! If you do end up driving down to La Mirada I will declare you both to be our esteemed brothers (or sisters) from the north. You can have a couple drinks on me if you make it.

Hi all, I'm super new here but I'd like to note my interest in a meetup in MA. I'm specifically in the Merrimack Valley area but I'm not against driving. I don't have the resources right now to host or plan such a get-together.

If anyone in NYC metro area wants to gather, I'd be very down for that and could help with planning (one caveat - I'm traveling for most of early October, but I still have a week and half of solid planning energy in me.)

The Baltimore/DC metro area has a large group of GWJers. I think we are plotting something.

Long shot, but I still belive there is somebody else from Mexico lurking in here??...
" Alguien de Mexico??, estoy en Sinaloa(Culiacan), si por suerte alguien lo lee......avisen por aqui"

Anyone in Toronto, ON want to have a meetup? I've been meaning to try to get out to ZED80 (Retro Arcade and Bar) on the Danforth some time, maybe this would be a good time to do it?

EDIT: retracted! I have something else going on that day, blerg. Maybe we could have a IGWJ Day adjacent

International Gamers With Jobs Weekend!!!

I'm closer to Sacramento, but I'd be up for joining a Bay Area meetup, or for finding a place a little further north.

Anyone want to get together that afternoon in Seattle? I have concert tix that night but could do something during the day.

Not a thread - but an involved group Private Message that has resulted in a scheduled OCT 19 meetup at the Casa De Zoso. 3-8. So, if there are any other DC area people who would like in, let me know!

There’ll be gamers with jobs! At least 4 children between toddlerhood and 6, board, card, video games, and I’m going to make dinner.

Zozo, what could we bring to assist with the festivities?

Time & location details for Chicago have been finalized:

Who: You and anyone you'd like to bring.
What: Chicago International GWJ Day
When: Sat, Oct 19th from 12p-4p
Where: Pilot Project Brewing (2140 N Milwaukee Ave)
Why: Because Stan likes you

More info in the thread.

I've been surprisingly busy helping organize NetRunner Nationals (Nov 2/3) so I don't think I actually have energy to host this.
Still VERY interested in attending though!
I vote we just meet up at a local game store with a library, like Victory Point Cafe (Berkeley) or Black Diamond Games (Concord).

I’ll come back to this in an updated PM thread I am looping Paleocon in on.

I have another event I am supposed to attend in the south bay in the evening. If this is early in the day I can make the trek up to Oakland.

Otherwise I plan to stream most of the day. For my year of trek I will be playing through Star Trek Voyage Elite Force. People are welcome to jump in and say hi. The table top simulator event will be compelling too.

Meebs,

Would I please be able to get a shout out on the next podcast? Thanks!
