Remnant from the Ashes

I've felt similar about this game to dark souls. This game rewards you for looking for opening to do damage safely. As you get more confident I've started to see attack patterns in advance and managed to thread the needle in some complicated situations.

Granted, this game does get easier. Traits can really boost your defense/attack and certain weapons feel awesome when applied correctly. I've played through the entire game with starter weapons & mods because I got really familiar with their handling.

For some reason I just thought the game was linear. I didn't look at the map and I guess they enemy placement just led me the right way because I never hit a dead end. I decided to go back to the beginning to farm some scrap quickly and saw that a lot of the map wasn't explored and was pleasantly surprised. That being said:

Spoiler:

What checkpoint is closest to the tree that's talking but you can't understand? I think I can talk to it now.

Are the dungeons really random? Three dungeons I went into were the exact same layout. Loot and loot boxes were even in the same places.

Your world is random, not the dungeons themselves. You have the option to reset your world which would start your story progress over and give you potentially different dungeons/bosses/side quests.

The tree you are looking for can spawn at either of the checkpoints before or after the church, so on your play through we cannot tell you which one it could be at as it is different every play through.

So my entire game is different from anyone elses? Even bosses?

Yes

Yes

Some bosses are part of the story and exist in all games but there is a bunch of other bosses that might or might not be in your game.

Kind of, there is a pattern to what is possible. As an example, on earth, the 1st zone you enter always has a boss dungeon which is one of 2 possible boss fights, there is also potential for one side dungeon in this area.

After the 1st boss you will always have a check point with a gate leading back to the first area, but the check point has the possibility to have one of two side quests spawned at it. You could also get no side quest there.

The game is designed to take multiple play throughs to see everything. I have played all the way through the game 3 times now but am still missing 1 armor set, 2 melee weapons and 2 rings.

That's cool I guess. It makes talking about the game a bit complicated, but I guess that's the point. I probably can't Google "desert area tile puzzle" and get a video with my solution.

Yeah, that puzzle is different every time, but it is possible to solve it in 5-10 mins.

Spoiler:

Find the starting tile by walking on the tiles closest to the gray plate in the center. Only one will sink down and stay sunken while you are on it. From there any of the 3 connecting tiles (non diagonals) will be the next in sequence. Just try one if they both reset go back to the starting tile and try the next connecting one until you find the one that stays sunken in. Then repeat this process from the 2nd to the 3rd tile and so on. The next tile in the sequence will always be touching the on before it and not be diagonal to it.

I was able to figure it out last night, but not before I debated looking for a solution. For me that's a slippery slope and once I take that first step I'll fall back to it too often.

You don’t need to brute force that puzzle, the solution is on a nearby wall. Takes like 10 seconds.

Or you can brute force it a fight all the mobs that spawn every time you fail

I was really having fun until I ran into Gorefist. the combination of the tight, get-stuck-on-geometry arena, gorefist's one-shot kills, and the exploding enemies has basically turned into a stop sign for me.

I had a lot of trouble with him too.

What I did was run straight into the room he spawns in, then go up those stairs and that platform is where I stayed. You can circle around it to keep him at a distance and there are only 3 places the bomby guys can enter from. Took a few attempts but it worked.

I'll give that a try this evening. Thanks!

This is exactly what I did as well. It makes it easier since it forces the adds to come down long corridors/up stairs etc. Just keep at it, you will get it. Good luck!

Yeah ... it's no use. I don't think I've got the reflexes to play this game properly any more. I keep getting overwhelmed. Gorefist and the explodey things just corner me and kill me before I can even get the first bar off of his health.

EDIT: I may have to give multiplayer a shot. I feel like Gorefist would be more manageable with someone watching for the explodey guys.

Too many mind. No mind.

Is there a possibility that your world can't be completed? I've cleared every dungeon 2 times and scoured the entirety of Rhom, but the boss I am looking for is no where to be found. What am I missing?

I soloed quite a bit but if I am stumped, i open it up to multiplayer and most of the time, the boss is slain. Don't let it get you down, you are not in the minority.

Did you stick the rod in the pedestal to open the giant tower to meet the undying king? What's your current "mission"?

I guess I need to find all the pieces to that rod? I've got two.

Oh? I think that's for a different mission. 3 glowing rods are for an optional side mission. You need 1 howling key for the gate to the undying king.

That sounds like I have to fight a guy and his dogs. But he was nice to me.

About the glowing rods if you want spoilers

This game really interests me, but it came out as I've been playing tons of Apex Legends, and now Gears 5 is out and Destiny's big yearly expansion is in a month.

I can't get either of the bosses that drop the key to the Undying King to spawn. I don't know what I'm missing.

If at all possible, I would love to play this with some GWJers. My biggest annoyance is the lack of written chat. I guess they implements voice, but I have little interest in talking to randoms.
But if it were GWJ no screaming 11 year olds, then sure!

I love the game, but my frustration is how hard it is to communicate.
And people don't know that you cant join a game unless the team you are watching 'warps' you in a stone, I see so many people join my game, and leave, and join and leave...

Lastly, you can only make progress in your game by playing in your game.. I have seen some later game stuff, but when I go to my game, I am still at pre-Ent.

Most likely, it's not that they don't know, it's just they don't want to wait. I am similarly impatient, I would rather spend 20 seconds to join another game than wait for the current host to get around to the crystal.

As for playing with GWJers, do you use Discord? Historically, tons of GWJers play all kinds of games there and it's a great crowd to play with.

I've made it to the forest area. Ixillis is the first good boss I have come across. That battle was great. Reminiscent of Man Eater from Demon's Souls. If only all the bosses were that good.
